Okay, i've been attempting to get early ice beam in the trilogy version (via SW of course), but the ghetto jump to the SW is driving me crazy. Is there another, more easily accessed SW I can use? Time isn't really a factor for me at this point so anything will work.

easily accessed = yes
overall easier on you = highly doubt it

“Well done is better than well said”
I"m starting my first 22% game and i can't find much info it. I think TreborSelbon wrote a low percent guide years ago? Does anybody know where i can find that document? I googled and searched the site with no luck. Also is there maybe an old topic for the 22% game maybe? The first ghost fight w/o charge beam is kicking my ass. This is going to be so hard. Lol. I need help.
Edit: I just found Trebor's guide on gamefaqs. Thanks anyway.

i'm assuming this goes here because this is technically the "I need help" topic. i need help finding a video. it's a bunch of geo core w/o boost attempts and fails with awesome music playing. unfortunately i don't know what the music is called or really anything else about it

I asked this a page or two ago and didn't get a response. The song is "O Fortuna," which is part of the "Carmina Burana" opera by Carl Orff. I had it ages ago but lost it when my box got rootkitted.

Treb's walkthrough is still posted on gamefaqs.  If the link does not work (since I remember them not allowing direct links), simply go here and select Treb's low percent walk through.

The Overlord of All Acorns.
Eh, I'm in the middle of a 22% run (well, not really 22%... collecting expansions along the way to aid myself, but skipping the major items that would necessitate 22%).

and I'm at everyone's favorite room, vent shaft.

I can't seem to do the scan dash properly.  I never seem to get enough height off of the second jump.  Is it merely an issue of try, try again, or do you need the room to still be gassed when doing the trick?  I clear the room of gas before trying the dash, but I'm thinking the lock on the spore may give a bit of extra height at the end.

getting there...
AFAIK, you don't need the puffers in the room to make the trick, and I'm not sure that it makes a difference anyway.

May people disagree on the best way to escape vent shaft. There is the dash camp and the bomb jump camp. Both sides swear that their method is easier. The sides seem pretty evenly divided though, so I think it's safe to assume that both are among the hardest tricks one can perform in MP.

If you haven't tried the bomb jump method yet, you might give it a shot. There is a video on the main MP page. Good luck with your 22%!

How does that ghetto jump out of gathering hall (required for ibbf) work? I can't seem to do it unless I'm lucky somehow, and I had the same troubles back when ibbf was newly discovered too.

So I just started a test 22% run and I realized that one of my biggest weakness is how fast I am able to tap A. As you all know, it's extremely important to be able to tap it fast when you don't have the charge beam against the chozo ghosts and the final boss. The last time I did a 22% run was quite a while ago, but I remember it took me a ridiculous amount of time to beat Metroid Prime's first form.

When I watch the existing 22% runs by sj13 and Trebor, I'm always amazed as to how fast they are able to tap it. They're tapping it two to 3 times as fast as me. What am I missing? Am I supposed to use my thumb? I can tap slightly faster using my index, but it's still quite slow compared to everyone else. I want to do a serious run for once, so I hope I'll be able to resolve this...

always move fast
@ryu: it's a pretty high jump.  i'd aim my view slightly up, so you can position yourself into the crack when you reach the peak, and make sure you get a running start.  you have to start the ghetto before you actually run into the slant (though just very slightly before).  if you notice samus hits the slant and stops moving forward just before the jump, you aren't going to make it.  once you figure out the timing it gets easier, but i don't think it ever gets too easy.

@iowa: i'm no expert on pressing things fast, but i use my thumb.  slightly bend your thumb, and instead of moving the actual thumb to tap, move the opposable part slightly back and forth.  not sure if that's what trebor or sj do, but it's what works best for me.

@iowa - Sparky's right. Instead of trying to literally tap the button, find a sweet spot where you can simply trigger 'tapping' it by only slightly moving your thumb. So, more of a rubbing action than a tapping action. This usually works for me as well if I need to tap buttons fast in a console game.

Could somebody describe how the l-lock SJ to escape life grove works? I can't seem to get it high enough to make it to the ledge.

Aww, Sterrance!
That can be a tough one to get, but really you just have to keep trying until you find the right time to start and stop holding L.  Or maybe there's a better way to do it, but that's what I've done. :^/

The problem might be that you're just doing the second jump too late, if height is an issue. You have to do it pretty quickly it seems, that twist you see at the end of the video on the site helps a lot more than you'd think too.

Making the second jump a spring jump has helped me get it, right after the first jump I aim down a little, lock it and jump again, the second jump should come maybe a second after the initial jump. That's the only way I've gotten it, but it certainly isn't necessary.

Thanks for the input, I'll try both methods once I'm thre again.

btw am i correctly assuming that these are the items to get in a 22% run?

Space Jump
Missile Expansion
Morph Ball
Bombs
Wave Beam
Ice Beam
Plasma Beam
Power Bombs
X-Ray
Phazon Suit

You're missing the Varia Suit, but nothing else comes to mind other than that.

Wouldn't that make it a 23% run?
