I believe the series is highly overrated, though I was a huge fan when I was around 13.
Umm, this is the best series ever and this can't be denied. The plot is always perfect and amazing and deeper than anything you could possibly understand and the characters are totally cool and way more awesome than you. Vincent Valentine gives me a mighty boner as does Sephiroth they are the prettiest girls ever and Cloud is so manly three hindered eighty two women faint at the mere mention of his name. Your Grand Theft Autos cannot match the splendor of Final Fantasy graphically and no story exists that can surpass the intense, gritty, spectacular writing of a of Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy VII birthed me anew in its magnificence. Its greatness is undisputed by true gamers and literature connoisseurs a like, Aerith's sacrifice washing their unclean bodies in the pure light of love and truth. It cannot be overrated because its glory is immeasurable. the series, in fact, cannot be praised enough as it is a tremendous achievement in any media, nay, art! But even that cannot fully grasp the importance or true value of the greatest video game series of all time, you ignorant pissant.
Meh, all it's got is "One Winged Angel," the rest of the music on there is sort of generic and a little behind its time (too much MIDI and not enough digital sampling). I think the best sound track in the whole series is from FFIV, it's simplistic, but extremely catchy (not the DS version though, that pretty much ruined the soundtrack).
Proof that tomatobob has never actually played it.
What makes VII my favourite is simply the versatility of the players. You can mix Materia in so many combinations, and have all of your characters exactly how you want them.
I'm a little ashamed to say that I haven't played them all, but I like 4, 6, and 9. 7 is my favourite. I also really like Adventure on the Gameboy, which is the first Seiken Densetsu (Mana) game, in case ya didn't know. Oh, and I also really enjoyed Mystic Quest, which I feel gets a bit of a hard rap to be honest.
Adventure was awesome, I even bought the GBA remake (which was well done). I recently picked up mystic quest, I think it's not well liked because it's constant grinding. What little story there is isn't very interested by comparison to other FF games and you don't get more than a two person party.
My favorites are probably 4 and 6, but I haven't played 3 and 11. Seven was good and eight was fine unless you wanted to ever replay it, drawing magic all the time was pretty boring. I wasn't a big fan of 9, I preferred 10 over it. 10-2 was complete garbage and so was 12. I mostly dislike 12 because I'm not a fan of the combat, or any combat which encourages combat control to ai.

That pretty much sums it up for me, that and the fact I grew up playing VII.
I never got a chance to play FFVII. I got the game a few weeks ago & my playstation 1 motor (that spins the disk) broke. I was very pissed.
I prefer FFIV snes version over the ds version. I find the snes version more of a challange over the ds version. I did like the cutscenes they added and the extra bosses.

Swing and a miss.

None of those three have anywhere near the versatility that VII did. It had similar elements, usually through job systems or the like, but nothing to the same degree. In VII, you could have one character who had a weapon that could cause most status effects every hit, or simply did elemental damage, or armour that absorbed any element of your choosing, or all elements.

Not that you probably need an excuse to troll the thread in which you appear to have little interest (other than trolling), but care to explain?
He was just fooling around and didn't put much thought into the sentence. /facepalm
And it's not too wrong either. After all she unleashed Holy from inside the life stream while being dead...something. So you could say she did want to die for that sake.
I got the impression that she didn't truly understand what she was doing, since she intended to cast Holy to stop Meteor, but didn't understand the way in which Holy achieved it. My understanding was that Holy would not exclusively stop Meteor, but would eradicate all threats to the planet, including Meteor, which was why all of the humans were also wiped out. I recall Bugenhagen saying something like 'Hoo hoo, I wonder which we humans are?'
If you're talking about character versatility, I'm thinking 8 beats 7. It had what, something like 10 junctionable stats, resistances, elemental attacks, and status effects which were all improved by about three tiers of weak to strong magic and mixed types?
Oh boy ff7 plot discussions joy: I'm pretty sure you could count "dying to cast holy" a sacrifice whether she knew she was doing it or not. I suppose you could make an argument that holy didn't actually do anything though.
As far as I'm aware she cast Holy, but was then murdered by Sephiroth, who in turn subdued Holy anyway. It was only later, when they killed him, that Holy was released. Holy wasn't enough to stop Meteor, so the lifestream assisted Holy to prevent the destruction of the world.
Random fact: Favourite Materia combination is Added Effect + Hades on my weapon. "How are you gonna put up a fight now, you sleeping, confused, silenced, poisoned mini frog?"

Guess what? The original Final Fantasy is now on Virtual Console for just 500 points! I don't know if I should buy it, but maybe I should considering the fact I haven't played any other FF except The After Years.
