Just wondering, do you guys here prefer the old Ted Woolsey translation of FFVI or the GBA version translation? Now, I'm strictly speaking about translation, NOT other software quality, 'cause I think everyone here knows that the music and graphics were better on the original SNES version. I personally prefer the GBA translation myself, too many goofs on the original that just annoy the living hell out of me, but what do you guys think?

I like both in terms of translation.

The GBA translation seems a lot smoother which is enough for me to say it's better.

Okay so I'm pretty much on terms with guys with the translation, but there's a lot of fans who claim Woolsey's translation is better. I just can't see how that can be true, when you can obviously see the mistranslations without even knowing Japanese. They claim it adds "quirk" to the translation and makes it funny, but what's funny about "Well, whadduya want I should do?" (Pretty much the FFVI equivalent of "This guy are sick"), or calling Shadow a she at the cave on the Veldt (what the hell is a Veldt anyway, this is sort of an off-topic question), and using "Go!" as a replacement for the word "die" (only on the SNES version), when you can use something like "be gone!"

Oh, and just to clear up a myth, Woolsey didn't translate Final Fantasy IV!

Most people who complain about the GBA version are just upset over submariner. They are whiny babies.

I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
I only have the Japanese version of the GBA FF6, so no idea.  The game itself was too much a downgrade to harbor any interest in buying it again. I think 50 is enough FF games for me.

What the hell happened to the forum? It's all weird looking now.

I figured those things are things that should not be brought up in polite company- wait, no, that doesn't really apply here does it?

I went ahead and try that but I hated it. The sound is all buggy (at least in my netbook) and the gameplay isn't good. The name part is annoying. I have to give the name to all characters and I can't figure how to confirm it, I just press random buttons.

What is this? Is this some kind of nes emulator on webpage?

The buttons are in the top right-hand corner.

To enter names that aren't full length, just enter spaces after the name.

More annoyingly, it crashed Firefox every time I try to close it.

Yeah, I know that, but this game still sucks.

Try Google Chrome, maybe that will solve your problem. I notice that firefox is getting worse now. It crashed much more often.

I'm not sure that one site crashing Firefox every time I try to exit warrants a new browser being installed.

Yeah, it's a Java-based NES emulator site. Funny how you all are having problems with it... I've never even came close to having any bugs on it Confused

I guess the only solution I have is to update your Java drivers, but if that doesn't cut it, then I don't know.

The flesh is spongy and bruised
Now, I've always been a bit wary of FF games (or any JRPG that wasn't pre-DS Pokemon) and after purchasing and detesting XII, I'm considering giving the series another chance. Whenever I've seen pictures of Cloud from FFVII I've always thought "big sword, therefore it must be a swords-n'-sorcery RPG" but then one word enticed me somewhat - cyberpunk. Now I'm intrigued. I know a lot of people say that VII is the best (although that doesn't mean everyone - tbob) and it can't be worse than XII. Is it worth my time, as someone unfamiliar to the series, to download it and give it a go on PSP?

:D <3

Actually, I would suggest giving it a try. A lot of people enjoy it for reasons that completely escape me and it was a pretty important game in terms of making Square and RPGs into a more mainstream as far as video games went at the time. So I say it's worth trying at least, and maybe you'll hate it and then you can be my FFVII hate buddy!.

Yeah, Final Fantasy VII has gotten far more praise than it deserves. IV and VI beat it by a long shot. As for FFVIII? Don't get me started with that dump pile...

I too disliked Final Fantasy XII, but I'd add that it plays nothing like the others at all, and was more of a console-based MMORPG clone thingy.

If you like thatstyle of RPG, then it's definitely worth a shot.  It has a very forgiving difficulty curve, a fairly engaging storyline, and a very intricate power-up (Materia) system, which'll suck you straight in, but will still reward you with new possibilities when you think you know it all.

Just be prepared for the long haul, as it's not short by any means.

Too many freaking roman numerals in here, if all of the FF games had a name then I'd probably understand which ones you guys are talking about :(

My two favorite Final Fantasy's are Crisis core and Tactics Advance (idk why it gets so much hate, probably because it was so much more different then the other FFs. Still a good tactics game).

I think a lot of people (myself included) had an issue with the rules thing.  It came across as having potential to add replay value to levels, as you could always get different rules, but it ended up just screwing you over on a mission, and made you lose interest.

I don't care about the newer titles in the series at all. The main FF series got ruined when Tetsuya Nomura took over the lead character designs. Yoshitaka Amano for the win.

Oh yeah I remember the rules system now. It was a pain, but as soon as you could buy the cards that let you  remove rule it was a cake walk. I always had a full supply of cards that removed the copycat, black magic, and one other stupid rule, at all times.

FFTA2 has a much much better rule system IMO, although you can't remove them :\

The rules just boil down to making you do regular attacks instead of anything different, aside from maybe juggling classes for half the team because the rules suddenly made them useless. There might have been some that banned the use of regular attacks or certain weapons, which just forced more class juggling. Yay what fun!

It just ended up as some arbitrary limitation on what you could do in a game that left the layout of the entire world up to the player. If you are going to let me place everything in the world restricting how I can actually play is pretty dumb.

And the game itself is pretty dull, and I like this kind of game mind you. The were no notable characters, no interesting plot points (Oh no, my hair is white which is totally normal in video game land I have to dye it to not get made fun of! I never want to go back ever!), and nothing special about the gameplay... Pretty typical Final Fantasy now that I think about it.
