Then I downloaded and played all of RE5's DLC. Impressions...

Lost in Nightmares

I don't know how big it is, but felt as long as two or three parts of a Chapter in RE5, anyway. I'm cool with that. Finished in 1:19. (Nice touch with the REmake save room music on the ranking screen. Oh, and the grabbers make the death sound of Zombies in REmake and Zero when they die... are they Zombies, I wonder?)

First part was a little dull, nothing quite happens until we use the Crank. Reference after reference, and that's okay, but I was hoping they would be more creative about it and not just throw familiar stuff there. The crank line was sweet, at least, and they got Jill picking locks. (By the way, is Jill picking an invisible lock on that one extra figure? Haha!)

Gearless bit with the traps was my favorite part. Total SH2 moment. Heart was racing and I didn't realize how big the place was until I clicked R2. I died after the Haymaker, that was dumb. =Þ

The mini-boss is fun to fight. Wesker, however, I don't get. Is that fight timed? I just kept running and occasionally dodging his attacks because I could never shoot him.

Oh, and I like the score emblems. Does that add up to my money or anything?

B rank total, all S except C for Damage and Clear Time, understandable. I played on Veteran. Will play as Jill next time, not on Pro, thanks... unless I can convince my friend to download this mode.

Another completely new area, big points for Capcom. Kinda generic, and really quite Mercenaries-like, and also very annoying. The part with the rockets and rocks and the Executioner was insane. I was never sure what I had to do, I was so tired of that war zone. And the countdown, Jesus...

Total chaos. I was caught by surprise. Maybe I'll like it better next time, since I'll know what to do at least.

First Jill-Josh dialogue was RIDICULOUS, haha. I loved it. And the cutscene at the end was very good.

I couldn't find a Shotgun or Rifle, but there was ammo for them everywhere. Any ideas?

Mercenaries Reunion

I don't care much about Mercenaries, though I understand the potential for competition and it can be fun to play casually. I still think most characters should be much more powerful than they are, though, exceptions being Midnight Wesker and such. So, I only really wanted to see how the new characters play.

- Barry: Oh, man. Dude is brutal. Headbutt, Handcannon freaking Bash.
- Rebecca: Haha, she's so lame. Her character, not her arsenal or moves. Flame Spray is hilarious.
- Josh: Easy melee OHKOs and Rocket Launcher for mini-bosses. I kinda wish his head melee was named Hammer Time.
- Excella: Slap! Sexy.

Okay, that was a good six straight hours of RE5. That's enough for now.

Ready to internet!

Played Beatles Rock Band with my sisters. It's a very relaxing game. The Hofner Bass controller isn't easy to hold, but it works.

Well, from what I've seen in trailers, it's going to be a lot more useful in #2, so that's probably a good thing in both situations.

Y'know what? Arkham Asylum is one of only two current-gen games I would put on a 'best games ever' list. The combat is gloriously simple, but not too easy. Environments are tangible, Gothically beautiful and amazingly inticate. And to top it all off, you are BATMAN. But not just BATMAN, the best BATMAN this side of The Animated Series and The Killing Joke. Christian Bale should take note, and Mark Hamill is without a doubt the definitive voice of the Joker.

I am REALLY thinking about reinstalling the first two need for speed underground games. I must have played through the first one at least 5 times now, and the second one 2-3 times.

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm going to give mass effect 2 a shot. I never played the first one, Dragon Age origins was an alright game, not really HOYL SHIT AMAZING like everyone was telling me. When ME2 came out everyone shat brix over it, but I just ignored it since I hadn't played the first one and figured I wouldn't really enjoy it as much.

My friend changed me mind though, so I'm gonna see if it is really that great. (note: I think dating sims are really dumb, and from what I've heard this whole game revolves around dating people while saving the galaxy, so I think that really is gonna bother me <.<)

lol any "dating" stuff is optional. just don't do it if you don't want to. actually, i think the first mass effect was more focused on the story (and the gameplay lacked because of it), whereas the second has much better gameplay. i can't really recommend the first mass effect to anyone because of that.

started ratchet & clank: going commando tonight. looks like it could be better than the first, and i really liked that one.

It's been ages since I've played the earlier R&C games, but I seem to recall that they get progressively better in that first group of three. The middle games are alright, but the latest one (A Crack in Time) was able to recapture the greatness of those first three games.

Actually, looking at the list of games for the series on Gamespot, there aren't as many in the middle on consoles as I remember since I don't have a PSP. (Where they had 2 or 3 games as well) After the initial three there's Ratchet: Deadlocked, and while I still enjoyed it the game was a drastic change of pace since it more or less took out the platforming in exchange for focusing solely on arena style battles and puzzles. Then there's the new trilogy with Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty (DLC that lasts about 3 hours or so, but it was pretty good for what they were trying to do with it) and then A Crack in Time.

The series tends to stick to it's core mechanics throughout the entire trip, but things do change around them and they do get better over time for the most part. I have heard people complain that Tools of Destruction tries too hard to do too many things at once, but it's been a while since I've played that one too so I can't remember too much about it. But if you enjoyed the gameplay of the first one enough, that's definitely a plus with this series since as I said, it doesn't stray too far from that in most cases.

the new trilogy is basically the reason i'm playing through the first trilogy now. i'd always wanted to play r&c but never got around to it, so getting a ps3 gave me a reason to finally do it. didn't want to just jump into tools of destruction without playing the originals first. i've actually been doing that for many ps3 developers' series– played the sly trilogy before infamous, the jak series before uncharted, etc.
not going to bother with deadlocked. it looks fun enough but i don't really have time for it. definitely not bothering with the psp ports either.

Maybe that was just the review I read back when it came out?

Either way, I absolutely loved A Crack in Time, especially the Clank segments. But I can see where some people wouldn't since those are some of the heaviest puzzle segments in the series, and this is a series that focuses more on platforming and action than anything else a lot of the time.

By the way, peoples, now that I can take my PS3 to the Interweb at a reasonable speed, anyone wanna play Resident Evil 5 or Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 one of these days? My PSN screen is Ren_Dood.

EDIT: I would suggest Street Fighter IV, which is my other multiplayer PS3 game, but unless you want an erratic punching bag, you're better off with the training dummy... I also own BioShock 2 but haven't played it yet.

Well its good to hear that the relationship part of the game isn't a huge part of it.

How long do you think it would take to just go through ME1 on the easiest settings (along with some GOD mode cheats) so that I can experience the story and all that before trying to second one? Or would cheatz just ruin the "experience" for me?

it will take you a while. it's a full-on rpg after all, but thankfully a lot of the game itself is entirely optional. if you just do the main missions and fly through the dialog, it'll take under eight hours. that said, if you want to experience the story (which you definitely should, because the gameplay isn't so hot), it may take a lot longer, since there are a ton of side quests that advance the side plots. it's pretty much up to you though.

Yeah, you can burn through the main story pretty quick. If you stick with the main missions the gameplay shouldn't wear on you too much, but those side planets will wear on you big time. Only do sidequests that interest you, and note that pretty much any major decision is in the main missions (the sidequest stuff gets minor mentions in newscasts and such in ME2 but it's nothing you won't miss).

Make sure you do the Conrad Verner thing though. So worth it for the second game.
