Morph Ball Missiles Bombs Plasma-Beam Power Grip Ice-Beam Gravity Suit Space Jump Varia Suit
^^ the 9% minimum. Plasma Beam, Gravity Suit, and Space Jump are all required. If you choose to skip Varia Suit, it's still given to you automatically once you get your suit back in Chozodia.

I always thought that was stupid of nintendo.
I'm working on a 9% run (first one ever and I'm on easy). I beat MB although I had to go back for varia and she took me like 30 tries to beat. But now I'm stuck on Mecha Ridley (Metal Ridley, Iron Ted ect...) I know his moves but I always seem to get hit by one of the missiles and one of his lasers, which directly after either event I get hit by his claw and usually die. Can someone give me some hints please?
Practice. Learn his patterns, learn what to do with each one, etc. Shoot his missiles for refils, dodge his fireballs my morph balling near his claw as it's down while he spits them (correct if I'm wrong), you'll get it eventually.
On a side note, I'm working on a low% speedrun myself, 22.22 in the middle of Tourian, 99 energy and 5 missiles. Am hoping to coming close to Master-88's WR time 41.35, but a sub 44 time would please me more than enough as I'm losing by a minute to him already. :D
Yeah Mecha Ridley is mostly luck. Nothing good way beat him. Just luck and tries. We nobody one can,t help your better.
Good luck Tonski. Sub 44 is not easy task. But if you keep your speed you can surely make it. Low-% category is just nasty because it requires so much luck. It is really hard say which is perfect limit. I´ll say my 41.35 was almost perfect what anyone human can take, but it is definitely possible to beat with better luck take refills and make some little things faster. I guess sub 41 even maybe sub 40 is possible.
How about the plasma beam unknown item? I imagine it would be possible to skip using the alternate route on the right using a combo of IBJs and Single Wall Jumping, but I suck too much at Single Wall Jumps to adequately test it, or does the game block you from going that way?
Huh, haven't actually thought of that route personally. But I assume it actually is blocked off. I'm probably gonna check in a bit, but if I don't get around to it, keep in mind it is possible to LOSE height in an IBJ. It's just really tough.
But alas, Plasma Beam actually is still required even if you can skip it, since you cannot kill Black Pirates if you don't have it. Same reason Ice Beam "can't" be skipped, as you need it in Tourian.
The only problem with IBJing the whole way is it doesn't hold momentum going from room to room and there's still some height required, which is why I figured a one sided wall jump would do good for the remaining shaft.
