Well i didn't meet my goal over spring break partly because i forgot to take my dvd recorder back home with me but im back to work on it now. I am working on beating gandrayda faster this time then in my 2:34 which is proving difficult but i did manage to get segments 22 and 23 up on the first page. Sorry for the delay.

Edit: and i cleaned up the first post so only the newest two segments are embedded into the forum. It just looked ugly to me so i had to fix it.

Ok paraxade so for the first segment i can tell you the improvements ive thought of. First of all that first spring ball space jump can be a rolling spring ball space jump using the corner as you roll up the hill. Second, dont roll back as far as i did to skip the ghor test thing. Third, i dont know if it is faster or not but you can do a spring ball space jump at the end of the hall and turn around in the air to head the door instead of rolling around the corner like i did near the end of the segment. And of course shoot the lights way better then i did at the beginning.

I head back to the states in a couple days so i will not be able to get the times and bigger list of improvements until i get back.

actually for the SBSJ, it's faster to roll forward away from the wall you BSJ off of a bit then do the BSJ. The reason for that is rolling around there triggers the loading zone for the next room and you can reach the door as it opens (or is about to) instead of hanging around in front of the door for a second or two. I also knew about the rolling BSJ at the end of the hallway. I think it is a little bit faster, but it doesn't make much of a difference.

I'll try to do segment 1 now at some point in the next couple days. :D You don't mind if I post segments here instead of making my own topic, right?

Is this faster way:? I check Craztad test run segment 10 in youtube:

I see he not activated gel hall-refinery site shortcuts here. I think it save alot time your second visit. I don,t know is it faster, because you lose some time when you need activated that shortcuts after defeated Rundas.

Every Bit Counts
I think Paraxade tested it, and said it saves as much time as it takes. in other words, it doesn't matter what you do, as they both are equal timewise.

Actually it is faster to get the pipe. Normally it does save the same amount of time that it costs to get it, but that was without the Gel Processing Site speed trick; pulling it off twice makes the run a bit slower and a lot harder.

Segment 1's done; it's 11 seconds faster than craztad judging by the total video length (so that number might be off a bit).

Would've had it finished yesterday, but the beginning of this segment is incredibly boring, and messing it up means I have to sit through menus, cutscenes, and loading for over a minute before I can start playing again, all of which makes it a very boring and frustrating segment. There are a couple mistakes: target shooting could have been better, and I lost half a second on the second pull twist push thing, but that's pretty much it... I decided not to do the rolling bsj at the end of the hallway because it can be pretty difficult to pull off and makes little to no difference. I also used a different method of getting through the first room. Also that instant unmorph into the save station was unplanned, so I got lucky there.

Criticism welcome... also it would be nice to get this out of the way ahead of time: should I do late grapple? From what I've heard, it mainly saves time in Gateway because of the more streamlined route through the room; however now that you can just scan dash and skip going around the room, that may no longer be the case.

Really nice. Don't really have anything to say other than I don't know about late grapple.

For next segment.. just in case you don't know (wasn't clear in the SB topic), you just have to aim at BL's shoulder to hit the orbs before they appear. Just shoot at where they would be if they were there. Shoot one piece then the other with a full charge before breaking any, because if you break one before the orbs appear it won't register and another one will take its place. As soon as the armor appears you can break them right away and get the back to back stun though. This stuff doesn't matter for other modes because you have to do a lot more damage to break the armor. It should be easy to hit his shoulders by just standing still, holding Z before the fight starts and aiming (locking the view is better than actually locking on him).

One other thing of note is that you can hit both orbs at the same time if you fire a missile, but it's really weird to do. It usually happened to me when I fired it at him and it reflected at the ground. But if you can do it consistently somehow, it may be a way to break both orbs the instant they appear and save a little time over using pea shots.

Amazing segment Paraxade.

Mean you get early seeker launcher your run? Is this faster than normal way.? This trick is pretty difficult but save that enought?

Early Seekers is slower; the reasoning for that is that if you go straight to Ship Grapple, then you're right next to the first bomb component; after that the game puts you right on the path to Seekers. If you did do Early Seekers, though, then you would need to do the trick, get seekers, then pretty much come back the way you came then go back to get ship missiles.

Wow great segment paraxade by my timing you are actually closer to 15 seconds faster then my time. Keep that kind of play up and you might be pushing for a 6 min save after berserker lord. And as for late grapple i don't have a clue really to which is faster.

I will try to keep the first post up to date with your run and if you want me to change the subject title i can do that too.

As for me starting my 100% test run i now have a very good first segment to compete with.

Very nice segment Paraxade. Not much to say except: keep it up :)

Also craztad, I would love to see a 100% test run, it'd be very nice. I bet you could get close to 3:15, what do you think?

I think sub 3:10 is a very reasonable goal based on a previous play through to try a route.

I see Craztad not use Bersekker lord speedtrick his run.

Yeah this trick is so hard but you can use save point before boss. I think you really need that save if you mean beat Bersekker lord in one round.

I start my own speedrun. I use that trick. This took me almost 45 minutes managed that. But yeah i use save point before boss fight. I don,t know is this any faster if you make 2 round Bersekker fight without save point. This is  definitely easier choise, probably as fast as.

I think Paraxade can use that even without using save before boss.

EDIT:**********************************************
I am only two minutes behind Craztad test run. My time is 0.32 on Fiery airdock.

I am pretty sure my cliffside air dock route was faster than Craztad. I don,t get energy tank here. I think it is faster get Jungle thorne ET. Craztad skip that, but he get cliffside air dock ET.

I use crash court time saver after MAP station. Craztad not. I skip one more M-expansion too. There is not much reason collect too much M-expansions. Only where you need missiles is Seeker launcher segment. I think it is good idea collect only 25-30 missiles max. Even 20 is good idea but you need collect some M-refills.

Just remeber master88 i started my test run about 20 days after the game came out. Many things such as the 1 round berserker lord were not found yet and i kind of just made up the item collection as i went. This was actually the beginning of only my second play through the game. Nothing was well planned and i played very sloppy since i was only really trying segments about 3 to 4 times max and taking the best one. My original goal was to see if sub 3 hours was possible but ended up proving sub 2:30 is very possible even without much optimization. I am kind of wondering if paraxade will cut my segment two up and save before berserker lord. It would save a lot of frustration on his part.
I did a quick approximate frame count on a couple of my segments for anyone who wants to know. I used vdub to give my best guess of all frames of gameplay.

seg  time          frames
2      4:15.79      7666
3      4:26.81      8296
4      10:43.41    19283

I will add more to the list tonight.

Yeah. Your run is pretty old one.

Still it is very nice one, nobody beat your time yet. :D

Yeah your item collection route is not best possible IMO. Next runner can change that little bit. Your run itself is so nice. I am curious how much Paraxade can improve this. Hopefully sub 2.25.

Yeah, I was considering saving before Berserker. It really depends on how frustrating it is to get the 1-round kill; segment 2 has a lot of random parts, like the pirate energy cell fight which is followed by the crawlmine/crawltank swarm (even if that's not random... I could still end up losing a few seconds here), then tjp's trick in Repair Bay A followed by more target shooting. :\

I might lose a few seconds going to/from the station and loading, but it's probably worth it. Anything I'm missing here?

oh yeah, concerning that "swarm" you're talking about:

As you're facing where you put in the energy cell, there's a broken column to your right where there's a spot you can stand on to avoid the smaller enemies.  Then you can just pick off the crawltanks while waiting for the tunnels to open.

It might make it less hectic...

in the same place tjp is talking about, i found that the faster and more enemy's you shoot the faster the tunnel opens. I could be wrong though cause that is just how it seemed to me.
kip:

That's been my experience too. I believe the crawltanks are the priority when they appear, but you definitely should be gunning down as many little ones as you can while you wait. The tunnel should open pretty fast.

Also, since this is normal mode I don't think you should bother using charged shots on the crawltanks. They die very fast to uncharged shots and you don't have to worry about missing.

Part 2 must be tough to consider saving before berserker.. guess it's hard to say, it would be nice to know the exact time loss from saving there. I used to think saving before the parasite queen hurt in MP1, but it was found later that it doesn't, and not saving made the intro hell for nothing.

Btw, the berserker thing is possible on veteran, but either my strat is not good or it's just really hard (the orbs are like 4x faster). I think saving is the way to go for vet, no argument. Not sure about hyper.. might not be possible if the orbs go any faster.
Paraxade:
registered on 2007-08-21 10:04:10 pm.

Yep, I've known that about the swarm for a while - you actually only need to be shooting for a few seconds, then if you look down through the floor you can see the crawltank moving through the tunnel (which won't appear until you've shot a few enemies). Then you can just follow it and when it reaches the grate the cutscene will trigger.

In my SS attempts I didn't bother killing any crawltanks, just went after crawlmines - I shot a bunch in the back-left corner of the room, then some to the right, and by then the crawltank would appear in the tunnel.

As for time lost from saving, I haven't really timed anything, but the save station takes a second or two to load... then presumably the next room would take a few seconds to load too and the landing site might need to load (compared to opening instantly if you don't save). Plus a couple seconds going to and from the station.

Not sure how much time total that would lose... maybe enough to warrant not saving. Remember that I haven't tested any of what I said, so I might be wrong on a few points.

Also, a save might not even be necessary, since I haven't actually tried the segment yet. :P

I have most of the times on the first post i think. Off the top of my head i can remember 1:46 after x ray and 1:53 after gandrayda and i think but am not sure but after spider ball 1:56. It might have been 1:57. then it was something like 2:05 after nova, 2:14 ph seed landing, 2:17 after ridley, 2:22 on ph command center, and 2:32 end time. I could be off by a min or two on a couple of them but i think that is pretty close to my times. I keep trying to find time to get these up but life is way too hectic at the moment.

Edit sorry, im already lieing to you guys, i just looked at my segment save after gandrayda and it was 1:52. I actually think i will take a few minutes out of my homework time right now to get it up. It has a really cool finish to the gandrayda battle. the only bad thing is the rest of the segment really sucks. Definitly room for improvement.

Edit 2: i managed to get seg 24 uploaded.

Thanks Craztad.

So nice Gandrayda segment Craztad. This is very important segment drop my time if i mean get sub 3 hours. My current best Gandrayda segment is beat in 13 minutes my low-% run. Your own is almost twice faster.

I try beat this in 7 even 8 minutes with my new run. Probably 8 is good enought because this is one hardest segment in the game.

Luckily i make third copy with this.

And this your segment don,t suck Craztad. I see there is only couple minor mistake, but your boss fight was totally amazing. Wink

EDIT:
I beat this segment in 7 minutes. :) My segment really suck, but boss fight was even faster than Craztad. First screw attack caused 50% damage against boss. And after this i need 2-3 fast screw attack and beat her very quickly. This was very hard segment. Interesting see how fast Paraxade can beat this in the future.
