And this your segment don,t suck Craztad. I see there is only couple minor mistake, but your boss fight was totally amazing. Wink

Ya the pre gandrayda part really did suck. I had quite a few failed attempts where my pre gandrayda part was about 15 to 20 seconds faster but my gandrayda battles were absolutely aweful. When paraxade gets here he shouldn't have too much trouble beating this segment.

If you get a good pre-Grandrayda segment, you can just rety the fight until you get a good one. If you miss too many screw attacks, just die and retry. That's allowed, right? Like for MP2 Ing / DS fights.

EDIT: Good segment btw, definitely room for improvement but overall very solid.

Awesome Gandrayda fight. Won't be easy to beat that. :P

the fight was really good. only bummer was that gandrayda didn't die as soon as her health was empty.

This is very good idea. I use alot deaths when i beat my 2.53 speedrun. Gandyrayda took only 2-3 deaths and my battle was totally perfect. Two first phases died only one screw attack hit.

Still game is very hard beat perfectly. Even when you use deaths helping your run.

I kind of always felt like that was cheating so you won't ever see me do it. It would make this segment a lot easier i guess but you would probably still have to see what the sda guys think about it.

I am pretty sure this not against SDA rules. What Zell99 said you can died against Echoes last boss just like Djgrenola did his new run. SDA allow his deaths.

And yeah Paraxade make his SS hyper run. There is some deaths, he still planned recorded that. I am pretty sure no deaths hyper 22% SS run never happen.

I am pretty sure deaths is allowed. This make run much cooler you can manipulate perfect boss fights and perfect segments. Game don,t includes too much checkpoints IMO, there is 1-2 checkpoint per segment.

But i´ve must be say your run is so cool without any checkpoints. Wink
I think i never can get sub 3 hours without deaths.

no deaths runs can happen but it will be really hard.

it also depends if it is viable or not. death abuse can help your segments due to mp3's checkpoints (imagine how often people would die at bomb guardian/jump guardian/flaahgra/omega pirate if they had a checkpoint before the battle)

SDA had a death abuse category anyway so both kinds of runs can exist.

Yeah, I know what you mean; it does kinda feel like cheating but it's an in-game mechanism (checkpoints). It is not considered "death abuse" by SDA's rules so it wouldn't go in a separate category. It's the exact same thing as in MP2 and DJGrenola's run is not in a separate category.

I don't know what Paraxade plans on doing but IMO if he wants to get the best run possible he will have to retry some of the boss fights by dying like this. This is especially true for the Grandrayda fight because of Screw Attack randomness and the length of the segment.

If people felt strongly about it, there would be a case for "with checkpoints" and "without checkpoints" categories (some games listed at SDA have "with glitches" and "without glitches", and so on). In the case of Echoes, the precedent of using the final checkpoint was established by kip when he did the very first run of the game. In Echoes, there is only one checkpoint, and you'd almost certainly be able to get the same final time whether you used it or not, so it's just a convenience thing. IMO because it's the only checkpoint and doesn't really help a runner that much, there really isn't a need for extra categories. Obviously in MP3 the checkpoints are much more prevalent, so there might be a case for two categories. You'd need to run it by Mike / Nate / Radix (my opinion doesn't really count any more).

There are some other games listed at SDA that have checkpointing (Resident Evil 4), but I'm fairly sure they don't reset the timer, so I don't think people would want to use them.

If the categories aren't separated I could see people being turned away from running the game. The argument would be that checkpoint runs aren't that far removed from emulators given the insane amount of ship saves.. then you add all the checkpoints on top of that and it gives the game a very "bite sized" feeling. Either people accept that's how the game is and deal with it, or some kind of decision will have to be made.

It would be nice to know exactly how many checkpoints there are though. I know berserker lord has one, and there might be one even earlier than that. If no one has a full list yet, I may be up for looking into that. All I know is there's more than a few.. IIRC the seed bosses send you back to the ship, but even that's better because you don't have to load the game up again. Should those be allowed even in a no checkpoint run?

I personally agree with craztad and won't be using checkpoints.

Your route goes back through the entrance to the mines and collects the Energy Cell, right? I just used that on my last run and it does feel like it was a bit faster than the normal way through. Probably was the difference that allowed me to get a 2:59 instead of a 3:XX time.

I see he use new route in mine.

Is anybody timed how much faster/slower it is?. It looks bit slower IMO.
I personally use ship route when i go back.

Yeah i see many peoples talking about this. But save that really any time?

With the route i used i thought this way put me awfully close to where i needed to be for the next segment, and i don't have to ride that elevator all the way up again which i think is a total time waster. I hate to sit in one spot and do nothing. With the route i used you get to ride the train in the next segment(no time wasted), fall down the shaft instead of riding up an elevator(much faster), and at the bottom of the shaft is right where you need to be.

Edit: I got seg 28 up. Part 2 was still processing when i posted this so it might be a few.

Segment 28 Part 2 Save Time 2:12

Edit 2: Crap, sorry about the sound not working in part 2, im not sure what youtube did cause it plays fine on my computers. I am re uploading right now to see if it was just a fluke.

Edit 3: Well for some reason youtube just doesn't like the sound of 28 part 2, four different re-encodes and uploads two in avi format and 2 in mp4 and still no sound, youtube codecs really suck. But some good news segment 29 is up and 30-32 should be up by tomorrow night if all goes well. oh and heres seg 29, my scrappy but very improveable ridley battle, that seeker missle has got to be good for something...

Edit 4: Hopefully i will have all of these encoded and up where people can download them if they want and nate suggested a torrent so i think i might put up a batch torrent of the quality version most wanted so if you have a preference of what should be torrented pm me.

First of all sorry for the double post.

I just would like all those patiently waiting for me to get this uploaded to archive to know that I just finished. It is available in all the usual qualities. low/medium avi and low/med/high/insane mp4.

Im not sure but if you have pal version then i believe it is impossible at the moment. If you are not running on a pal disc then just keep trying cause it can be tricky.

Not PAL. I keep hitting my head on that light thing, and I can't seem to strafe left quick enough to get around it.

The positioning / angle required for this jump is tricky at first. Try looking at some videos to see how they do it. Also, springjump and unmorph as far from the wall as possible (but still get instant unmorph) and *as soon* as you unmorph, press forward/left to get away from the wall and the roof over your head. This should prevent you from hitting your head on the roof.
