<EDIT> The view I express in this post no longer reflects my stand on TASing. I am continuing to make TASes, and am currently working on 2 (check my sig). I'm still a beginner, so my runs aren't 100% optimized (though I try), but I am getting better. Look at the recent posts in this topic to see how my progress is going. I have changed the title of this topic to better reflect what it is now about. </EDIT>

Previous Text:
That's it. I'm done. It's just too hard to optimize every single move when the game does something other than what I want it to do, even when I copy every single move from another video. I'm through trying to make TASes. For now, I'll just stick to unassisted speedrunning and semi-TASes.

Every Bit Counts
Thats what I've been doing. TASing is just to hard.

Edit: What people have said (mainly Cpadolf and Tonski) have really change my mind about TASing.

I'm sure that TASing is very tedious, but, you know, so is real speedrunning.

Another pointless topic. You could've posted this info on some of your other topics. (I'm not mini-modding just noticing)

You give up too early. Don't try to copy every single move from others, do your own TAS. You wanna know how shit my first Ceres was when I started TASing?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1770526908/Tonski%20-%20Ceres%20Station%20improved.smv

Notice that it's the improved version. The first one sucked even more. I just kept watching JXQ's v2 with frame advance and the way he did all the jumps and at which pixel position he stopped before door etc. The more you do it the better you get.

The point of this post is: Don't give up too early really. I'd like to watch your TAS some day.

Well if you want to quit then do so, but know this. You don't need to do everything perfect, especially subpixel optimization is really unessecary for every run made exept those meant to be published at TASvideos. If you loose a couple of frames in each room people will hardly notice and it is the run in whole and the entertainment value of seeing something new being done quick that is what most people are looking for.

The most entertaining way to TAS is simply to not care about videos that are already made and instead do it the fastest way you yourself can come up with. Then if you want you can try to compete with your own times.

It's not against the rules to make a lot of topics, is it? Plus, if I had posted this on another topic it probably would have been ignored.

I don't think so, but seriously it's not like everyone has to notice your posts. Besides I'm pretty sure that if you would've posted this in one of your topics that are about TASing it would've been noticed. Everyone's posts are ignored every once in a while or often, it's better to get used to it than creating a new topic every time you have something new to say.

Like I said, I'm probably getting a bit paranoid.  Rolling Eyes  I have changed my mind though (thanks to Cpadolf's and your advice) so I will continue TASing.  grin new  \:D/

I'm about halfway done Ceres on my RBO run. I hope to finish it today so I can move on to the real part of the game. *throws darts with a Ceres dartboard*

Okay, I need a bit of help. I've tried as hard as I can, but I can't manipulate the steam the way I want in Ceres. It never ends up the way I want it.

Even if you wait some frames or try less or more armpumps or release dash for several frames? You can always take the roof steam too remember that, that's what I did in my SM:I TAS and it didn't turn out much slower in my opinion.

EDIT:
Haha not walljumps.

Whoops. Forgot about releasing dash. I'll try it out and post in Fano7's 14% topic if it doesn't work.

The only way to manipulate steam is to wait for a number of frames before entering a door.(which you will have to try for yourself). So just wait till you can run through without stoping or jumping, or till you can get the damageboost you want. Samus movement (other then slowing down) does not affect randomness in the game.

Yeah no TASing is not for everyone and it is as simple as that. It requires extraordinary patience and much indepth knowledge. Another thing that obviously helps is to actually enjoy to TAS which most deffinetly requires a rather unusual sense for entertainment.

I really hope that you can get over this and continiue and I tell you Ceres is one of the more pain in the ass parts of the whole game, but if you find no enjoyment in what you're doing then perhaps there is no hope for you.

I might continue sometime later, but for now I don't think that I have the patience. I agree, Ceres is a pain in the ass.  *throws dart at dartboard with a picture of Ceres on it*

To be honest, Ceres is arguably one of the hardest parts of the game to TAS, and, given that it's what every run begins with, a good test of a TASer's perseverance. I think most failed attempts stopped there, which is good (stopping at the beginning is better than halfways or in the end, in my opinion).

Ouuuuu that stair room steam in the middle of it....  aiwebs_016

I think it's pretty good, you did a very good job with it considering it's probably the hardest parts in the game to optimize and it's in the very beginning of the game. I think personally you should go with it and continue TASing, but as an advice when you start releasing WIPs keep 'em in this thread and don't make them TOO short. ;)

You did all the corner boosts +
Ridley hit you every first possible frame I think +
You didn't stop too close or too far with the doors +

That stair room steam -

I think job well done. If you want to you could always play with Ceres a bit more, I did the whole Ceres like 3-4 times in SM just for practise before my TAS with Super Metroid Impossible where I got almost satisfied with it. :P Nice one.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and if you had to hit the stair steam couldn't you have taken a damage boost from it?

I did take a damage boost from the stair steam. I'm not sure how noticeable it was, but I did. I tried as hard as I could to luck-manipulate the steam in that room, but waiting many more frames than I did would probably be longer than the time it takes to use the stair steam boost. I think.
