Using my trusty TAS console, I attempted another potential optimization--one that I've been told is possible. However, once again I can't figure out how.

The idea is that first room of pink Brinstar--the one with the Dachora under the break-away Speed Booster floor--with proper timing, you can speed boost through the entire room and through the other door.

My timing experiments, however, suggest that there is no conventional way to pull that off. The missile is what I found to be most effective; I've tried several types of firepower to open the door. If I kick everything back even one frame, the missile disappears off the right side of the screen without opening the door.

I've attached a ZSNES movie demonstrating my best effort. Anyone know how this one is supposed to work?

This is going from relative inexperience, but could you jump over the Dachora pit and then mockball out the door?

I proved that it is possible to jump over the dachora pit and shoot the door in time enough to allow for a smooth speed ball into the next room. There is one catch however, Samus speed must be carefully monitored (i.e. memory watch) in order to pull this off without losing time. If Samus reaches full running speed, she will be traveling to fast and will make contact with the door as it opens. The odds of ever pulling this off in real time are slim to none.

As for the shinespark idea, I would like to see this done. I have my doubts that it would be faster than the tech I talked about in the paragraph above. It all depends on where the shinespark begins. Now if someone can using the wrap around shot technique to open the door from the opposite end, we might have a decent timesaver. Just remember that the plasma beam isn't available at that time, and it must be done with the spazer/wave beam or preferably wave alone.

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
The right door can't be shot from the left side of the room.

Heh. Download the video next time. (-:

Thanks for the replies, all. I heard that HotD got it to work, and now I have some insight. I also feel better knowing it can't be done the way I was attempting to do it, so even more cheers!

I actually tested this room carefully when passing it in my RBO run.
Getting through the door without stopping is actually easy to do in a TAS. However as hero said, you have to decrease your top speed to not hit the door. Because of that it's faster to just run with max speed, and quickly stop after jumping over the breakable blocks to not hit the door, while immediately regaining max speed after that again.
