I have a serious complex.
No, and no, respectively. aiwebs_017

I think Acheron can't have locked it when he said he did, resulting in a few more posts.  As a result, might I suggest removing the 'New Post' button in locked threads?

Or you can delete old threads as you post new ones.

Probably already been thought of or mentioned before but any chance of getting appearance profiles for the posts per page, avatars and such. When I go back to my hometown I am on a 14.4 k connection so it would be nice to be able to switch to having no avatars, lower post per page count and such without having to click all the checkboxes and then undo it all when i come back to boise. Or is this already implemented and I am just not seeing it?

well chat mode is implemented but there's no way to change what chat mode enables or disables. interesting idea, thanks.

would a checkbox "default all threads to chat mode" do what you want?

i actually thought about letting users choose what items are shown in chat mode but eventually decided that wasn't the way to go. basically, i think the idea of having two totally different views for every user is too complicated and not necessary. chat mode was devised to make static threads work better.

Ya that would probably do it.

I think what tate is talking about is more like if you could check a box that enables "minimal mode" or something like that, that disables all the avatars and lowers the amount of posts per page and such. idk maybe I just read it wrong

I thought chat mode was where it showed the first post on the left side, and then all the recent posts on the right.

nah that's a static thread. static threads do default to chat mode though.

I have a serious complex.
It sounded like tate was after having different profiles, such as 'work' and 'home', so that you could have one profile with minimal everything, and one with all of it back on.  The chat mode option sounds like a fix, and would be no slower than changing a profile to another.

right, that's why i explained why i don't like the idea of having profiles or whatever. just needlessly complicated especially when a "default all threads to chat mode" button would do basically the same thing.

Noticed earlier today that we don't have preview buttons for PMs?

he means starting new threads i think. we talked about this before but couldn't think of a good solution. maybe the outcome will be different this time.

I guess it's classed as new threads, yes.  Only because I couldn't see the 'Send this user a PM' option anywhere. Razz

it's the little envelope-like icon beside the date on each post. clicking it used to insert the username into the "recipient" box in private view, but it looks like that feature was either removed or is broken.

about board/private view preview: what nate said. i've always been planning on figuring out a good way to do it but haven't had time yet.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet, but with the forum index in another tab or window, would it be possible to have the total amount of unread posts be displayed and updated live alongside the forum name, much like it does for individual topics?

the forum index or unread posts view? because unread view already does that ...

Oh, I didn't even think to check that. I guess that makes a bit more sense.
