*This is a straight copy from the SDA topic*

-----

I guess it does warrant a new topic

I've been out of Speedrunning for quite a while... the other games I was on kinda went "Meh, no-one will watch this"

Super Metroid, on the other hand, I could obsess over

Super Metroid|SNES|Minimalist Run (14%)

I have 2 other runs to base on:

http://www.archive.org/details/SuperMetroid_14p_118

http://tasvideos.org/455S.html

I must ask if there are any, new, route plans for the 14% run... and any other new tricks I may not be aware of (I practically memorized the Super Metroid page at Metroid2002)

-----

Yes, I am serious about doing this run.  It was suggested I post this here as well.

You trying for a console run, ya?  This won't be emulatorized?

Yes, this will be done on a real SNES... with the intent of sending it to SDA, and POSSIBLY TG... (though TG is not required)

14% is still the lowest, right?

What about reserve tanks?

Minimum % is definitely 14.  Reserve tanks take longer t get than etanks.

I can't think of any improvements off the top of my head, but if I do, I'll be sure to post them.  Good luck.

is that 14% with ice beam or 14% with speed booster?
Lokarin:

I could do either... I think Ice Beam will ultimately be faster since I won't need to charge up on Power Bombs for the Metroids.

Is it theoretically possible to beat Mother Brain with 5 Missiles/15 Super Missiles *as opposed to 10/10*
BlueGlass:

Yes, but that would either require taking speed booster 14% or HBJing acrss the entire missile moat before the Wrecked Ship.

Don't worry about the Crateria Lake... I have a secret trick to doing it...

Assuming my calculations are correct that is:

That aside...10/10 is probably the way to go... but if 5/15 is possible it could GREATLY reduce run time (by almost 2 minutes)

Very interesting... As BlueGlass said, there is no other way than HBJ over it if not wanting to get the Missile and without Speed Booster.

Moozooh is currently testing to get past it as well with possible HBJs in his low% TAS project, so if you really have found a faster way to pass this room other than HBJ, sharing your method would help alot.

Personally I don't believe there is a faster way.

Well...

I 'have' done it, I flip over the front wall, over the missiles, onto the back wall (right side of the missiles) and then start a bomb jump asap...

I did it... once... and the missiles weren't there at the time, so I may not be able to do it consistantly enough...

If the wall jump from the left side clips the water, I'm out... If I can't jump high enough I'd touch the missiles...

Again, I haven't attempted it with an actual missile tank there yet...

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
Wall jumping detects the highest wall near Samus. If the missiles are there, it will detect the missiles first, THEN detect the wall below.
So no, it won't work.
Lokarin:

Ya...

If that's the case I'll just try a bomb jump series... if I miss it I'll just get the missiles without restarting...

Well, with Kejardon's IBJ technique, you can bomb jump over the moat without collecting the missiles.
However, this requires reflexes and skill beyond human capability.

And 14% is not definitely the lowest possible item collection rate, however, it's the most reasonable.
If you mess around enough with the Space/Time Beam you can reach lower percentages I doubt any of us have imagined.

Also, can't you get a lower percentage by pulling off some out-of-room shit?

so you use the space time beam to explode the planet prematurely. you still have to fight draygon because otherwise plasma's door is grey
get the morph ball missiles bombs supers
plasma spazer ice charge
and you need to get out of draygon's room somehow
you probably want the speed booster
so that's 9%
can't remember if there's anything else.
apart from power bombs to open that door in old escape shaft which is the best place to use space time?

Space/Time beam?

All I have for points of reference are the videos at the main Super Metroid page...

Anything that's not there or in one of the existing 2 runs I haven't even seen yet.

Aside:
The room before Botwoon a Mochroid is used to skip through a wall... I need details of this trick

you can use the space time beam to get less than 14%, but it's effectively cheating. and although that's the sort of thing tasvideos would accept, i don't think radix would. and you'd never manage to submit a 14% to tg. they think the mockball is cheating...

nvm the Space/Time thing then... I looked it up, it's just that Murder beam restart deally isn't it...

EDIT: http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&pi=32&gi=516&vi=545

1 life only, continuous game with no saves/deaths/continues. The game's internal clock will be used to determine your time. The pause button may be used to enter subscreens and/or skip animations (ex: energy refill stations). Usage of the "Mockball" trick (unusually-fast morph ball) IS permitted. Crystal Flash (move that trades weapons for energy) may be used at ANY time (even in tight passages). Most other glitches are banned for this game, so be sure to ask ahead of time if you plan on using a speed tactic that involves one.

Y'know... if I follow those guildlines, I'd only need to pick up the Speedbooster for getting through Maridia... With 10 Missiles I could take out Zebetites, which I assume I can't warp through.

But, I plan on 14%, not 15%... so I guess TG is out...

with 14% ice you don't have the speedbooster. you use the supers as well as normal missiles to break through the zebetites.
Lokarin:
registered on 2007-02-12 10:51:39 pm.

I don't think 14% is possible for TG...

1. You need Ice Beam to warp through the Zebetites
OR
2. You need SpeedBooster to warp through the Zebetites

However, BlueSuit is against their rules so if a SuperShortCharge is possible then 14% can be done,
Otherwise I'd have to get both since the IceBeamMochroid glitch before Botwoon is against the rules.

That's aside the point, I made a separate TG topic at TG for the glitchless run...

EDIT: But, just to sitck it to them, I will beat 42 minutes

just curious, why are you acknowledging the existence of tg?
Lokarin:

Because, quite unfortunately, they are the Guiness guys...

I want in the Guiness book...

Honestly though, that is only my SECONDARY objective...
