But, good format for explaining tricks.

Fat guy with a neckbeard. Must be a speed runner!

I feel bad for the girl, stuck listening to that guy drone on about nothing. You just know that she could not possibly care less about it.

It cannot be said better.

An hour 22? Really? Aren't we down to less than a half hour even on the NTSC version?

WTF why does it say he held the record for 100% at 1:22 until July 22 2010??? Who's record?  I think just about everybody on this whole forum does way better than that.  LOL

Actually, that beats my best 100% time. Of course, the last time I did 100% was nearly 10 years ago.

The 'official' record currently stands at 1:13, which is new as of the 1st of July 2010, so he's technically correct-ish.  The unofficial record (which anybody in the know would go by) currently stands at 0:55, since Hotarubi did not submit his 0:50 (he wanted to get 0:49).  It has since been (fairly confidently) assumed that 0:48 is possible through a near-perfect run, with 0:49 certainly achievable.

In the blurb on Twin Galaxies, it states about the Mockball being permitted, which offers the biggest sequence breaks in the game.  It doesn't specify whether glitching through ceilings is allowed, but this only accounts for a minute or so (mainly the Spring ball), so on a decent run, and if somebody submitted to Twin Galaxies, the time would still be at or below 0:50.  It does say that you could ask whether it's allowed or not...

I just don't know how they can have the audacity to say that 1:22 or 1:13 is an official record from febuary 2006 to july 2010. That pisses all over the hard work that was put into smokey and Red scarlets runs which sub 1 hour. Unless they just simply didn't know that these records existed. I would feel ashamed of myself if I had a "record" of 1:22 and gloat that it's the record knowing that theres just a very strong possiblity it had been thrashed.

The problem comes with the 'official' part.  Twin Galaxies is (as far as I know) the main website dealing with world records.  If a time / run is not submitted, then it doesn't exist, regardless of whether it's miles faster or not, or whether people are aware of it or not.  While a run (like yours Wink) can be recognised the world over on SDA or anywhere else like it, it won't get into any record books, or onto any official listings.  You could just submit your record to them.  I'm not sure how they work, and don't wish to read through their blurb, but it says that their 'record' was supported by video evidence, so it should be fine.

Da hell wid you :)
That's exactly why I can't understand how sites like that carries any dignity. Maybe all sites should be collaborative of one another. To me it's seems obscene to dismiss something as non existent if it's right before their eyes. and they have records because it's supported by VIDEO evidence. What and SDA doesn't ? ...  don't they belive the legitamacy of other sites than their own. It's pathetic I tell thee !

And that is my old account I signed into up there. I'm so used to signing in as Giganotabehemoth87 on SDA that I did it here by accident. But the reason I changed to behemoth in the first place was because it wouldn't let me sign in at all at the time even when I changed my password. So I created the new account. The fact that I was able to sign in today on it was because I was going to change my behemoth password, instead changed Gigan password and something or other must have sorted itself out. I think I had bad internet trouble when I had my Gigan account...

Well, at least SDA got somewhat recognized with Andrewg's run of Super Mario Bros. as well as the Half-Life 2 done quick project. Oh, and Behemoth, you should just scrap your new account, and just ask nate to change your old account name to Behemoth. It'll save you some trouble.

My name is 4N6/Forensics.
This was honestly fuckin` pathetic and is a disgrace to speedrunning entirely. I beat that time the 4th time I beat the game. I got 1:12 like 7 months ago and I sucked then. Honestly I was really hoping this was a joke but, it was more like a slap in the face to all speedrunners.

yea he did. Honestly, any good super metroid player who knows the game quite a bit can beat 1:22 and 1:13. lxx4xNx6xxl is right. This does make me see red slightly when it says he had the record. Not to mention a time as poor as that. Personally if I was this guy I wouldn't have brought myself to have been interviewed on this show. The guy obviously isn't very humble and thought he could get some limelight after they contacted him. Or, like I've said before, just completely obvlivious that there are far more dedicated speed runners out there.

So how come he was the only one to submit to Twin Galaxies?  Out of all the hundreds of people who routinely get better times than that, how come not one of them submitted anything?

Maybe he was just one of a few who submitted but his time was the best. Or no one submitts any super metroid speed runs to them. I seriously think that site lacks any credibilty. Granted it's been established for a considerable amount of time with keeping scores of the earliest arcade games and stuff but they need to get their asses off their pretentious throne and just take note of other sites dealing with speed runs. They obviously turn a blind eye to other sites because how can they label his time as the "official" record just because it's submitted to THEM. It makes me sick.

I just watched that movie after you mentioned it and wow, I didn't even need to watch it to confirm what I already knew about that establishement. What a crock of shit !.

The thing is though that film has to be acted and staged. I mean billy mitchel wouldn't have said all that stuff about doing it the real way at the official place in front of people, and then contradict himself by sending in a video of his world record beating time. Maybe the film is lesson to anyone thinking they can have records by video that there will always be sceptisicm. So another words the film is praising it's own arse twin galaxies on it's method of verifying.

So the enemy in the film (billy mitchel) with his totally ridiculous, unheard of aragance ends up the loser because he sent in a score by video and not competing with another top competitor. Although the movie was enjoyable, I can't help but think that, with all that I've said above, that it is a huge swipe in the direction of sites like SDA that only rely on video proof to verify.

But also at the end of the film your left wondering. Did billy mitchel actually have that world record beating score on the video ?. Hense the sceptisism I was talking about. But the real winner was the guy who played in front of everybody even if he didn't beat billys score.
What a happy ending. guh! . It's all a sham and they are all friends really. It's got to be.

Either way, he's got the record again now.

I don't think it was having a dig at stuff like SDA, I think the film just needed to create an antagonist in Mitchel and his power within the Twin Galaxies system. The hipocrisy of his video entry was an act of villainy within the film's narrative.

You can't help really rooting for Steve Weibe, though.
