Hello.

This is my first serious TAS project for Drewsephs great hack Super Metroid Redesign. I worked on it for a longer time already, but now, with the just recent update, I decided to post my progress here, since there is enough stuff to show off by now. I do a any% run, with the newest and fastest route that is known today.

Super Metroid Redesign offers even more variety and speed-techniques than the original Super Metroid, and therefore is perfectly suited to make a great and entertaining TAS. If you know this hack, and have played through it once, then you will definitely enjoy this run, and most likely see new tricks and route-shortcuts you have never seen before.

I created my own YouTube channel for this project to post video WIPs there, the more I progress. In total there are 5 now, 4 WIPs and 1 Beginning video:

Super Metroid Redesign on SaturnTAS

For more details about each WIP, please check their video descriptions.

For those who use emulators, I will also provide the most recent smv movie file:

Super Metroid Redesign - any% TAS v1 by Saturn
(Recorded on latest Redesign version 2.1, and on Snes9x 1.43+ v9, but should work on any version of the 1.43 series)

With more progress, more WIPs will come in the future. Also if you have any suggestions on improvements anywhere, or just any comments, I appreciate them.

Enjoy the run!

PS:
Since this run will be a large spoiler, and by request of Drewseph, I decided to not post it in the available Redesign topic, to not disturb the introduction to those who are new to the hack there.
Thread title:
Awesome! I just watched a couple of the videos and am very impressed. I love TAS runs. I am definately going to keep an eye on your Youtube Channel dedicated to it!  grin new

All I can really say is, good luck!  :P  Cant wait to see the final outcome.

Alright, going to watch the rest, hehehe.  laugh new
And you said you're gonna work on RBO for now, few days later we see another Redesign WIP. :P

I have never completed Redesign but that was awesome! The last WIP I mean. I have a question though: When picking the early Screw Attack, while shooting that pink door your shine lasted like hell, does it usually last that long in Redesign or what?

Brilliant work.
Almost happy
Tonski: I have not seen the smv but i might know why his shine lasted so long. You con recharge your shine by shinecharging in a slope and then duck again, kind of like in fusion i think.
Waaaaaaa i want insanity

Yep you're right I think theres a slope there? :|

Quote from Saturn once:
Though now I decided to finish the SM-Redesign and the long awaited RBO TAS first...

I try to work on both, but SM-Redesign has a higher priority right now.
RBO is just too difficult, so I only want to work on it after geting enough motivation.
Apparently some of you still don't know that Redesign allows to recharge Shinesparks on slopes, just like in Fusion and Zero Mission like you say. This allows transporting a charge to almost any place you need it, and as you see, allows many new additional tricks and shortcuts because of it. Without this slope-recharge technique, the route I go in this run would be by far impossible.

The charge before Screw Attack was indeed very close, especially because the purple door before it requires 25 Missiles (or 5 Supers), and therefore it was a pretty big delay to open it. The final Spark to Screw Attack was executed around 3 frames before the charge timer run out, so it was extremely close. :)
Very nice. I look forward to the ending.
Don't forget that the shine charge in Redesign lasts 240 frames (4 full seconds).

Also, to prevent some of the possible future questions, here are some of the SMR-exclusive tricks explained.
This TAS is godlike. I find myself watching the WIPs over and over again. :P

How's it progressing Saturn?
Slowly progressing. WIP5 should be done within 1 month if nothing serious comes in the way.

It will be the best WIP so far, using a special route nobody ever used before, so be prepared for a new surprise when it's out. :)
Good god its been a while since I heard from you =)  I can't wait to see this route in action!
After many ups and downs, and the unfortunately long delay, I finally present you a brand new WIP which will show alot of new speed tricks, crazy boss strategies, and a totally new and never seen before route that is only possible with a secret sequence break I herewith spoil to you for the first time ever.

Enjoy!
Amazing, although lower Norfair early was already shown to us by Kriole. It was so fast I almost couldn't follow you at times.  Shocked

Man Saturn I wish I had your skills lol. That Lower Norfair run was the best I've ever seen...ever. I bet the part where you had to secure the guardian in the lava without gravity suit took you a while to master eh?
Oh yes, why did Ridley die so much faster than Golden Torizo. Did Drewseph make it that way?

I read on the TASvideos forum that he's actually using psuedo-screw attack on Ridley. I'm not 100% on that but hey someone go test it eh wot?

Yeah though, this is ridiculously good. I wonder how drewseph must feel watching these.

I'm not sure Bolognab, but it's think Drew made it severely weak against Wave Beam judging this isn't the only video where Ridley goes down quickly from it.

Edit:
Whoops, looks like Acheron beat me to it. I never saw him actually Screw attacking Ridley since I don't think he received take any damage in that video...I'll watch it again.

After seeing the GD testrun TAS vid, I can tell you he probably feels nothing.

:(

Boring. You're boring. When/if Cpadolf does an Aegis TAS, I certainly think I will experience something. I'm guessing a brain-breaky sensation.

On-subject... it's been a while since I've played Redesign but I could have sworn there were more items in Norfair than just Grapple. Did Saturn skip something else down there or am I just remembering wrong?
Leader of the "Council of XIII"
Let's see...Powerbombs, Speed Booster, Screw Attack, Grapple Beam. I think he got all of the major stuff...there might have been a reserve tank (once again I don't remember I hadn't played in ages).

Do you think that the designers of SM would feel something odd if they saw a TAS of SM?
Poor Ridley.  :(

I feel great, I'm the one who helped test the route and show whats needs to get done,  however saturn blew even me away by doing the things about 10x faster!  and even new little things I never thought of!  its amazing that he's managed to get through all this so quickly!

what does that mean?  I feel like this run is the best run ever in metroid ^_^
I noticed that he demorphs in a tunnel in redesign; I thought this was impossible? Was it changed just for that tunnel?
