I've heard that Super Metroid is a good game, and I want to play it! The problem is I don't have an SNES. Is there somewhere I can get it for computer? If that's illegal, nevermind.
So everyone here plays on SNES?...maybe I'll have to buy one :| If there's an emulator out there that isn't chalk full of viruses, please feel free to share though
Emulation is technically illegal, but that is not to say nobody uses it. For the record, emulation has a dedicated community which is not hostile in any way, which is not to say some emulation sites aren't dangerous. In the end, it's your decision as to whether it's ethical to play a game copied for your own purposes without giving money to the company which came up with it. People have decided both ways, and it's up to you how you'll act.
On a minimodding note: while discussion of emulation is allowed on these forums, we cannot post links to the sites. However, if you want to find roms, google is your friend.
oh yeah i almost forgot! I think its 500 points, so that's 5 bucks right? I don't think I'll emulate, since it seems dangerous to download something free that usually costs money on the internet. I fear for my computer.
I actually play it on emu more than console, but that's only because I don't have my SNES hooked up and don't play much SM anyway. Perhaps I'll get it on VC.
This is true. However, one can spend $5-8 and get a USB controller that will work just as well.
In most cases there is little difference between playing an original and a ROM so long as you use a controller.
There are exceptions such as a bad ROM or not so good emulator, but I can't really remember any games I've played where I thought there was any drop off from the original.
There are also really crappy controllers. I had to perform surgery on my controller so that it actually functioned as a direction pad instead of an oldschool joystick. It used to be nearly impossible to hit only one direction. After the surgery, it's just a bit harder than the real thing.
This is what I'm using, albeit the EX version, which I can't find a pic of. The built in fans are pretty cool, but don't make or break controller use. If you like it, it may be best to snap it up fast, tho... it doesn't look like Nyko still makes PC stuff.
But ROMs ARE legal.('xcept GBA/DS...) SNES is abandomned (abandonware) and Super Metroid cartridge is fairly rare. But if you have a wii, just play on the VC
Are there different rules in different countries? It's been talked over several times around here, and each time it had been concluded that unless you dump the ROM yourself and don't share it, it is illegal. There had been people from different countries, but I don't recall anyone having a different regulation.
