Yeah, after practicing it for quite some time somewhere difficult (I guess I can't do screencaps from my PSP's SNES emulator), I got down a pretty good cadence ^^

Currently working on the unheated room after the second varia-less norfair run. Can never get enough vertical momentum when I use the grappling beam...

I finally finished. 9:39 with 72%.

I'm sure with all the savestate loading I did the actual time is a lot longer but whatev. I liked the balance of exploration and difficulty. I'll probably play through this again sometime.

????
It's possible to play Cliffhanger without savestates on the PSP??  Unless I'm wrong and it really is possible to use savestates on the PSP??

Speaking of which, I just ordered myself an already hacked PSP with the custom firmware already installed and a magic memory stick.  grin new  Looking forward to playing the hacks on it. grin new

I just beat Draygon, and apparently, I need to go get the gravity suit. Not sure where it is, though.

Yup, you can have up to 10 save states per game, too. I play all the ROM hacks on a slim PSP I hacked myself - the most recent version of SNES9xTYL finally runs everything lag-free (even Yoshi's Story and Super Mario RPG, which used to get the worst lag and graphical glitches).

edit - still stuck at that same place with the grappling beam block in the room after the second heated room run. For the first time in playing this hack, I'm actually getting frustrated >_>

edit 2 - Ghetto screenshot!

Go ahead. Stare.
If you can slow down is your friend there, otherwise you'll have to do a pixel perfect move at full speed, swing yourself up and mid-air-morph and bomb jump you way up in one go. I think that is the only one of its kind, and it thankfully is over after the IBJ. Have fun!

Here's a vid which shows you exactly what you need to do in this spot.  It's a teaser trailer from DMantra that he made a long time ago.  The part you want to see is about 20 seconds into it.

Thanks to both of you ^^ I hadn't thought about doing an Mid-air morph --> IBJ, and it only took me about three tries after seeing the timing/de-grapple locations in the video.

This hack is certainly helping me become much more adept with Super Metroid acrobatics!

Finished Original Version. 9:10 78%, didn't save animals, 2/5 lore found. Some of the rooms left me with a sickened grin after I got through them.

Things I loved:
The gravity jump rooms, the room in Joulbrin with the Ripper 2 and the crumble blocks, the 4 reserve tanks, how important the springball is, Gold Torizo fight, running around practically naked for most of the game, the detail put into each room, the Botwoon fight, I got Spazer after I got Plasma?, some upgrades can be obtained through sheer stubbornness and nothing else, the room to get Plasma

Things I hated:
Kraid and Phantoon are way too easy still (I understand that Kraid and his room cannot be editted so there really is no way to make him more difficult without lowering the damage of missiles...), the ridiculous jump to get to the bomb and Torizo (seriously, I almost stopped playing right there), the machball incident to get to Kraid, Coverns (not complaining about what you did, I just hate them now), some rooms were such a pain in the ass that I refused to go through them again, even if for a E -Tank, how much slowdown I had to use, and how I am nitpicking about this amazing hack

Don't know how I feel about: The fact that I didn't want to go through and collect everything I could, but I wanted to start over.

Overall great hack I am going to play it again. I just hope the one I make eventually will be half as good.

The map on page 36 is our friend, also remember where the noob tube room is.  You have to go through the noob tube room, through Eldridge, to the gravity suit.  The map is a good help here and will show the way .  Don't forget about the cheezing strat mentioned in spoiler tags when I was having problems with the boss and asked for a good way to defeat the chozo of gold....  The next stuff to get after that, using the map, is space jump, screw attack, and any missed lore.  Then it's either more item hunting or the final boss.  grin new

Dunno if this is how I was supposed to get this tank, but I never have a button set to aim angle down, and this made for the most amazing timing with the rotation time of the ice+PB combo.

Oh, yeah, I guess you can't see the frozen flying guy...

I got him down to freeze with one shot of ice, charged up the ice+PB combo, jumped down on him in morph ball mode, de-morphed before landing to slow down, then got a running jump off of him before another ice rotation hit and killed him.

Was good times :3

Um... I guess that would be the "I can defeat any obstacle thrown my way" trick to get that tank. I just IBJ'd up there after defeating the flying letuce creatures. Your way sounded more fun though.

What?!
Way funnier, and way PRO'ier!

Only thing i could do to quicken this tank was to freeze the fly to use it as a platform for bomb jumping.

I seem to remember dman telling me that was the way you were supposed to do it, and he was surprised that I could IBJ all the way up there. I guess MetroidMst's ostentatious sig and I are bomb pros.

My way was made harder because I was too lazy to run back to the ship, save, and come back with a button set to aim down :P

edit - Oh, and total noob question: How exactly do I control a shinespark in mid-air (horizontal or diagonal). I usually just mash buttons until it works. Holding the direction I want to go in and pressing jump only seems to work going vertically.

In mid air you have to completely stop your momentum and very quickly activate it. I find it easiest to use the angle-up button when performing that trick. Otherwise I think you need to fire a single shot to stop your spin, and then I believe you have a few frames to activate it and choose direction.

Appropriately enough, it only works when I'm not lined up with what I'm trying to hit :P

Namely, this is the room one or two before Ridley.

If that is the room I'm thinking of with the door-cap in mid air then you can use an angle shinespark to get through it.

Yeah ^^ I eventually got it again (first time ended with an unfortunate lava bath before I saved).

I felt highly accomplished after killing Ridley, too! Was a very epic ending (I was at sub-50 health, and he grabbed me right after I dropped my last Power Bomb. The explosion killed him as he flew up with me).

laugh new Can see it in my mind, awesome ending!

Hey, there's this thing i remember i could do on the SNES, but never happened in the emulator.
When i was a 100% noob and could finish Super Metroid after 15 hours with 76%, back in 1997, i had a really hard time trying to beat Ridley. 'twas horrible! All my charged shots, missiles and supers used to end on Ridley's tail. So many of them that i can remember clearly: I BROKE OFF HIS TAIL!

But now i'm so PRO that i can't do it again aiwebs_003. Did this happen to anyone of you?

I can only imagine that it was a graphical glitch of sorts, as I'm sure that somebody else would have experienced it after so many years.

A glitch that happens only with the console game? It'd explain why i can't redo it.
Though, really. Now that i know how to kill him, it comes to be really hard to miss him that much. Shocked
Anyway, is there some sort of timesaving tech useable in CH?

The only speed trick I know of for CH is to jump into the right wall of the Ice Beam room then walk left and jump over the door to save a couple seconds after Kraid. Other than that, it's just knowing where to go and how to get there.

And remembering that you must have 4 etanks for the second heat run, or at least you do in Original.
