I just used a shine spark to get up there (at least once you have speed boots).

Not sure about normal version, but in easy version if I don't feel like walljumping to that platform to that door, I like using a shinespark to get there.  The shinespark is probably the fastest way there.

If I'm honest, by the time that you drop down, run right, charge, and then spark upward, it would be about the same as bomb-jumping.

Quote from Sneaky Paradox:
You could bomb jump from the elevator

Wouldn't that be the same as bomb-jumping from the plant's ledge, only longer? Eh?

I'll say you're not honest. Razz  It is Much quicker to shine spark.  We are talking about speed here -I presume.  aiwebs_017  Just being technical.  teach  But most of the time you won't be "dropping down".  You'll be coming into that room from the door on the left.

Unless it was your first time back with the..

Super Missile upgrade, to get some stuff higher up in the right side of the room.

A spark would certainly be quicker once you know what you're doing, but the question was asked by somebody new to the hack, so I was kind of assuming that they were already IN the room, in which case dropping, charging, and sparking would only be (maybe) slightly quicker than bomb-jumping. Very Happy

I suppose it also depends what type of bomb-jumping you use.  I use the repeated double method, so I'm used to bomb-jumping not taking very long.

What?!
Evil or Very Mad How is that someone can manage to have a compact version of WinXP that does not have Paint?
[Frustrating]

Well, got through some challenges by now. But THIS one isn't possible!
I'm in the room with Spike Plants, the fifth after you defeat Spore Spawn. It'd be a normal situation if had gravity suit. Neutral

[Unless i turn and go to the elevator and bomb it. d'oh!]

You could try Paint.net.  It's free, and is like a souped-up version of Paint, but retains its simplicity.  It's what I use when at work.

For me, getting an HBJ at all is unlikely. It's one of the few SM tricks I really can't do, even if I can in ZM.

Actually in Zero Mission IBJ and HBJ are much easier because the bomb's explosion is way bigger than in the Super Metroid. Very Happy

I always thought it was because the bomb explosion occurs much more quickly in ZM, as well as the "heavier" physics.

In SM, for me, IBJ climbs at a rate of about 2 tiles per second, using the single bomb method (drop a bomb as you're falling towards the one about to explode). A shinespark climbs at a lot more blocks per second. The room in question is something like 3 screens high, which means a lot of blocks. Shinespark wins.

Also, there are a lot of times you (or at least I) go up to that watery room from below, most or all of which you will have speed booster for, so the "drop down" part is never applicable at all ever.

Certainly, on later visits, sparking is much quicker, but the first time you are there, and are already in that room, starting a double bomb-jump climb isn't much different from dropping down (by this I mean down to the right, through the switch gate, not actually 'dropping') to one side and charging to spark up to the door.

I'll post an .smv later to hopefully clarify what I'm saying. aiwebs_027

Oh yeah, of course shinesparking is faster. Especially since you pick up the charge beam and can start quick charge after you grab that sucka.

What do you mean by quick charging after acquiring the Charge Beam?  Something new that I missed? Eh?

Attached is the .smv I promised earlier.  At a rough count, I make the sprak method only about 2-3 seconds faster, which on a first playthrough is completely negligible.

I just found this hack a few hours ago and I can't get to the bombs... I know where they are, I just can't get up there... very embarassing. Is it just incredible mid air morph timing required to get up there?

If you're playing the original version, yes.  You may end up having to use slowdown for that part, as it's a right pain.

Failing that, you could always exit the room through any door, transfer your save to the easy version to get up there, and transfer it back once your up there.

Good luck, whichever way you do it. Very Happy

Took around 9 months, can't remember.

Never played Treasure of the Rudras. My nick is something I came up with years ago.

It is not obvious, indeed. Though once you look the map it becomes flashin' clear what to do.

There's the 3 corridors:
The middle one where you have to open the eye door.
Below is the fake MB room.
Above both rooms you get energy and missiles recharge.

After you get recharged, go back to the midway room before the eye door's room. It has a large 45° slope. Use it to run from the lower part and charge your shinespark. Quickly leave the room going upwards.
Get yourself in the pipe from where you came first. Shinespark there and go ahead for the final fight!

I'm expectating for Super Metroid Eris to come!

[EDIT] A little question here. By 'harnessed' you mean that it was a improved play, not the first one?

Just started playing this a few days ago, and I'm greatly enjoying it.

What I love is that it's hard, but not annoyingly hard. Any challenges you run into can be worked out and solved after a little planning, which is a style I've felt starved for from games in general. Awesome job!

Last room I went through was the find-the-crabs-to-open-the-door room after getting your first SM tank. Currently refusing to acknowledge that there's an easy version of the game, too :P

Phantoon was a paaaaaaain...

Yeah, i played the original and got it finished. Finished it preety fast comparing to other players and got everything that was there to be found, though i had to use the Imperial Spoiler [MAP] foud on page 36 of this topic. Preety fun for the challenging situations it makes you face, but is somewhat painful when you have to redo an entire corridor sequence just to grab one item, or being forced to run it even if you're going to end in the place where you started. Lots of further planning are required to play it quickly. =D

Been stuck for the last day trying to pull off the short charge needed in the area about six blocks up from the "LO" in "FLOW" >_>

Edit - In Surripere.

Edit2 - Wow... after I finally pulled it off (got the missile tank after shinesparking vertically in that little area you need to morph ball into), I realized that I could've used the spikey sidehopper thingie to break down the wall, and saved myself a LOT of trouble short charging.

I dunno if I should feel like an idiot for missing that, or highly accomplished for being able to get the missile tank without it >_> I'll take some screenshots tomorrow to show what I wound up doing.

I'm fairly certain that short charges in all hacks are similarly measured.  Once you get the timing down, they should all be fairly easy to pull off.  The only exception would be items that are designed to be hard to get, which may require a shorter charge again, but I don't remember seeing this yet.  The trick is to practice your timing somewhere easy, like the landing site in the original.

Start at the bottom left-hand door.  Hold forward and press run when Samus's foot touches the floor (after what looks like one step).  Make a note of when you achieve boost status.  Then repeat the process, pressing run just before / after her foot touches the floor.  note whether boost is achieved earlier or later, and then fiddle with the timing.  Off the top of my head, I seem to remember that just after her foot touches was correct, but you'll soon figure it out.

Once you get the start timing down, the rest automatically follows.
