This is my Super Metroid 100% speedrun in 49 minutes (in-game time).
Items collected: 100%
Animals saved. It's real 100% when Samus saved Etecoons & Dachora!
Played in real time, no slowdown, no turbo.
Savestates used to overcome serious mistakes.
I tried my best, utilized all my skills to make this video clip.
This is all I know about Super Metroid so far. What a great game!

I'll watch this later. New runners can put up some interesting things.

It's a minute off of the PAL version so I'm not sure what might be able to be learned but still worth watching.
(Also, I'm not sure PAL 100% saves the Etecoons/Drachoras :P)

You're a good Metroid player, Behemoth, but the lack of empathy makes me sad. :( IMO saving the critters should be necessary in order to beat the game.

The animals are neutrinos that traveled back in time to teach you those abilities. They break physics to help you learn the tricks you use to sequence break their own game and you can't even spare a few seconds of the time you owe them to save their lives?

If you kill the Omega but still die in the explosion it still counts as a regular death.

LOL, well I was joking obviously. To be honest I used to say the same thing that 100% runs should include saving them, as it feels kind of like "doing everything". If it became obligatory then 100% runs would be about 20 seconds longer. Which is boo hoo imo Not talking

Yeah, it is 20 seconds longer, but Etecoons and Dachora are the animals who help u when u're a beginner at this game.

I remember watching my older brother play this game in those parts. Samus fell in the pit and met Dachora, later she knew how to shinespark. As I remember, she spent much time practising wall-jump with the Etecoons. They should be rescued for that help.

You can't become a pro player without being a beginner, right?

Now Samus know how to shinespark and walljump easily, but at least she should remember who helped her, didn't she? XD

This is all well and true, but I look at 100% as just the items, because items are what governs the physical percent you see at the end. Anything else seems arbitrary. You could argue that 100% should also kill spore spawn, or clear every part of the map, but no one really wants to have to do that do they ?

Yup, the percentage relates solely to the items. Even the game says that 'your rate for collecting items is 100%', rather than a general completion rate. If it were possible to skip more bosses, they'd be skipped too. We're already skipping Torizo, Spore Spawn, the Metroid scene, and the Zebetites. It's all about the items. aiwebs_004
