I know that the reset glitch works in different ways depending on the way the rom is emulated, and am curious if there's any documentation on this. Specifically, I can't get it to work in Snes9x 1.51.

I did some test myself. On the original SNES console, most area freezes the game while the wii console survive (S/T beam with super missile for example.) The emulator for PC is pretty much works the same as the wii version but act slightly different (ZSNES or snes9x may acts differently each other. Like, you can trigger the escape scene on ZSNES while snes9x can't)

So there you go, I have tested for you. Let's see if someone else come up with something different.

Oh, and you can read this discussion about S/T with super missile if you haven't seen it yet.

The only place I've gotten it to work on snes9x 1.51 is the lowest left screen of the old Tourian shaft; there, it corrupted the top display and did the slowdown effect until I left the room, but it did nothing else that I could see. It certainly didn't corrupt the sram, which is what I'm trying to do.

I think you suppose to save at any save station and then reset your game after you used your beam. Go to that save file and just load it up. If it doesn't work, you could try snex9x 1.43 because this is the one I'm currently using. This video below should help you.

Location: only one location?! c'mon! Who'd only be in one place, all the time?
huh. If I use the s/t beam on my snes, it crashes in a few seconds and deletes game save file A

True, but you can still use s/t beam somewhere but not everywhere.
