I've been on a roll with discoveries the last 2-3 days :P most significantly the last two SWs I found allow for Spider Ball to be skipped completely. Spider is actually only ever required in three rooms - for Hazard Shield, then in Defense Access and Mine Lift. Hazard's skippable so no worries there.

so yeah... I'm not sure if the Phazon Quarry SW can be entered without the tiny height boost from Screw Attack, but either way since a third energy cell can be skipped now, this is 20%, getting Screw Attack but skipping the third energy cell and Spider.
also, given that both SWs are right in the way and the wallcrawls seem relatively quick and painless, plus that Phazon Quarry's SW lets you wallcrawl backwards through the mines which is a shorter route than going forwards, it seems to me like theres a good chance that it's faster to skip spider in any%. Probably 3-4 minutes saved at most... needs timing.
I'll play through 20% to confirm everything later today after I've had some sleep...
