from experience, the r-dash is easier but a bit slower to set up. it is a good way to get used to doing SBs when still learning some tricks since you won't need good timing to do it, unlike the regular dash.
The only good thing i see about the r dash is it lets you carry your momentum into subsequent jumps very easily. The bad thing is that once you press R you are stuck in the direction you were moving(no bending the dash). Using a combination of both normal dash and r dash comes up with some nice results. Example: dash normally, bend/curve the dash into the needed direction, press R, when you hit the ground jump again keeping the momentum and because you are holding R you can turn to the direction you need to go without changing the direction of your momentum.

yeah, i was trying this yesterday, too. i was getting good results in landing site by doing an r dash, then letting go of r and holding right to bend the dash (often i ended up facing the ledge before i landed on it). this makes it easy to reach the ledge from the ship's save point.

I'm not entirely sure but I think it can be bent just as much as a normal dash jump. When doing Geo core's R-dash, I get far better results when bending it backwards (almost 100%).
well, you can't bend an r dash, because an r dash involves holding both l and r the entire time. you can't change direction when doing such. so you're probably doing exactly what craztad and i were talking about.
Is the r-dash better than the regular way? Does anyone know of any instances of where the r-dash would be better to use than a regular dash? Finally, can I follow the instructions for the Prime 2 dash described on the main site (in the Echoes section)? They sound the same to me. Thanks for any help.
Edit: I see now that it would probably be a novelty for Prime 1. Does an r-dash go as far as reguler dash?
Maybe, but its not take heights like normal dash IMO.
I personally like more use normal dash. But it might depend lot because i am crap dasher in MP 2 Echoes. And this are quite same strategy with both games.
it might be usefull when doing sjf with a scan dash. Use an r-dash to the ledge, then a normal dash to the left (from the ledge you land on after the r-dash). The only good thing of an r dash is that you keep the lock on and can instantly dash again. I can't think of any place to use it though.
If I remember correctly, if you do an R-dash, you can't even stop yourself from going in any other direction until you land. I remember playing around with that a while ago. Is that correct?
In Pit tunnel, is it really any faster to morph and go under the grate than to simply Jump over the gate? I'm pretty sure it's been shown L and R hopping is faster than morph ball without boost. Plus it seems that jumping over is a straighter path. Does anybody know where this has been talked about on the forum or anything?
