You might be right about the loading zone being quicker, but you lose a lot of time just setting up for the dash. Turn around, lock on turret, slowly walk backwards through the door, dash VS shoot ice door, morph, boost, profit. If you disagree then you should keep testing though!

I've found a new dash, I don't know if it saves time through. It's an slight easier way to get the early energy tank in the Main Plaza. Stand to the left to where the energy tank is and lock in to the bridge, Then do a height gaining scan dash and you should hit the tank. I'd upload a video if I had a Digital camcorder. I'm thinking about getting one.

you mean the missile expansion you're supposed to grapple to? The only energy tank in main plaza is in the tree you have to super missile. And you can L-lock space jump to that expansion from the ledge above the door leading to ruined shrine. Would be quicker to dash if you came from the top door though. Grappling is pretty damn slow.

the Main Plaza energy tank is on a small ledge next to a door. the tree has a missile expansion in it, not a tank.

EDIT: youtube works now, ignore this post.

can't see the vids, but if you boosted off the walkway, I suggested that and timed it as being faster when sparky posted his test run.

I calculate ur time for this trick and sparky one and its almost the same so if you are better with your trick just do it, but no matter wich one you do. To be sure for what i said maybe ur able do record it without mistake could be easier to determine. (I think that your trick is cooler  :-))

craztad the monitor station route you posted is actually how i've done it for a long time. don't think i ever posted it anywhere but i'm convinced it's a couple secs faster than the way everyone does it. good job getting a video up.

something else to chew on: when you enter phendrana shorelines for the first time, after you jump up to the ledge with the locked door, turn and jump to the right onto the big icy pillar. from there do a super long scan dash up to the floating platform just below the doorway. i think it's some fractions of a second faster than the usual way, but at the very least i find it easier and it's something different that hasn't been done in a run yet that i know of.

not bad, faster than me going ghetto up on rock then space jump then space jump

EDIT, i don't know if this is possible but wouldn't it make the rooms load faster if you mod your wii or game cube and put it a faster cpu? but it would count as hardware modification

I've always had a question about this:

http://www.metroid2002.com/speed_tricks_ore_processing.php

Is that to get from the bottom to the first white door? Or to the Grapple/Waste Disposal room? Cause when I'm at the bottom and going to the middle door (after X-Ray on the way to Omega Pirate) I don't move any of the pillars.

always move fast
if you're talking about the first video, that's just the old way to do that room (iirc the last run to use it was zoidi's 1:17).

I always used the the method in Kip's 1:04 run.  I don't know who discovered it.  Maybe it was Kip himself.  That way is faster and easier IMO.  For NA version at least.

Oh ok, I was hoping I was doing something for awhile that wouldn't have been used by other people. :(
Wonder if it'll get updated.

I have thought of 2 new spots to scan dash. I just have to confirm one of them before I tell you guys, especially craztad, if it saves time or not (it should most probably save time). I will later edit this post.

Edit: Sorry craz, I was at work and still havent tested it. To save us some time, I'll simply tell what I was thinking of. After defeating Flaaghra, you are supposed to beat those 3 Chozo ghosts to obtain an artifact. At the exact moment you kill the final Chozo ghost, you should be able to quickly scan dash it to the center of that huge plant so you'll get the artifact without moving a inch. I don't have zoids or kips any% segmented run ('cause Im waiting for yours  :P) so I can't tell if they did that in their run. If they didnt, this minor timesaver should save maybe a sec?

Angerfist you can just tell me where the dashes are. I have tried probably every combat and scan dash people can think of trying to find new ones. Just like my favorite one i havent seen anyone do is dash to the first missle expansion like sparky's test run but then just turn around and dash off the grapple point to the other missle expansion. Might be useful in a 100% run but it is pretty hard.

I have thought of that and i also hope to kill the last chozo in a spot that if it drops an item i can use it to scan dash to the door.

Craztad, here are a few more ideas I recently came up with. I will use your testrun as reference, more specifially, this one:

At around 01:43 and 01:46,, wouldnt it be better to jump over those mini creatures to maintain full momentum? At 02:42, I was gonna suggest if its possible to be quick enough to destroy the right side wall, scan dash the missile and on your way back, you can get it as usual. One more thing, I have seen lots of Metroid Prime speedrunners losing basically all of their momentum in that morph ball tunnel seen in your testrun at 06:40. Cant you be a few inches back and once the gate is open, you'll have at least greater speed once you press forward and get through it.

Im not sure what you are meaning at 1:43 to 1:46. And i have thought of scanning off the missle but if i can hit the dash in that room i really screwed up in this vid it is way faster. I have gotten it bent enough to pretty much go straight across the room where then all i have to do is turn a little bit to grab the next dash. And about the whole momentum thing, i don't see that being much of a big deal. I can live with the momentum loss if i can get the stone toad kill without the bomb jumping me into the air cause that saves about a second on its own right there.
