You have a big potential son, big potential  Evil or Very Mad  What AJAX said, you used many new scan dashes and some of them were so obvious! Your discovery will help "someone" else in his run  8-)

Well i don't know about obvious because some are hard to position yourself without stopping to make sure you are in the right spot so the wall doesn't stop you or make sure you grab the right item to scan. Like in the room before the room with the charge beam, the first time you go through there if you scan dash like i did but grab the scan on the right a little earlier i can make it across the room without getting hit and be in much better position to grab the next scan for a dash.

A few more tricks to point out: You can instant unmorph from the morph ball tunnel to shoot the missle lock door before flaaghra. in magmoor right after flaaghra you can shoot one of the creatures that fly at you and hope they drop life or missles then missle the door and use the dropping to dash to the save station. Also in magmoor in the room where everyone goes through the door turns right to climb the wall and then jumps to the bridge (i don't remember what the room is called), I think you should jump once you come into the room and turn left to grab the puffer for a combat dash over to the back right corner of the big building which just so happens to be the same corner that is used for varialess magmoor runs and then climb the tower while grabbing the turrent to dash to the door. But these are just a few of the things that can be done, it would take me forever to type out all the new things i plan to attempt. Hopefully these few things will get people looking for more timesavers in this game cause every 100 or so timesavers could mean another minute cut off the final time.

Dunno if this is faster, but you can clear the spider track in Furnace with a BSJ.

No point, simply run at it, and ghetto off the track and left hand wall in furnace, to make it to the top in a couple of smooth seconds. Means all you have to do is morph once into the morphball tunnel.  :)

I use always bsj here. It is easier than ghetto IMO. But i think don,t any faster. At most 1 seconds.

I see... still might save some time in a 100%, though, as you can BSJ up there using the morph ball tunnel right after you get the energy tank. I didn't know you could ghetto, though.

I use that my any-% run. I get third energy tank and i use bsj right after morph ball tunnel. But this is harder than normal way, it is bit hard find that ledge. But hell yeah this save bit time. Pirate109 use wall triple bomb jump. Bsj is probably 2 seconds faster.

Bsj is still easier even bit faster here IMO.

just for a speed reference here is both bsj jumps

edit: its up now

This is much more consistent then the ghetto and just barely slower. We are talking like .2 of a second slower i think.

Congratulations! That clearly is faster than doing what kip and zoid did in their run. Keep them coming guys, its not far left for you know what  laugh new

Yea, that seems to be pretty damn fast.  :o If you can get that easier than Ghetto, then that certainly seems the best choice. :)

I think i have couple time saver idea with any-% run.

If somebody want try beat Zoid 1.03 run.
Is it faster if you jump into bomb slot in geo core in any-% run?

You lose almost 10 seconds game time when you rise up spinners with your boost ball. This my idea is crazy, but cool.

I ensure this time saver.

I check Zoid any-% run and smilingjack13 low-% 22% run.

Zoid room took: 54 seconds with boost ball
Smilingjack13 room took 1.04 minutes W/O boost ball. Last spinner raised 12 seconds slower without boost ball. This mean:

It is only 2 seconds faster jump into the bomb slot with any-% run. Too crazy on console and it  save only 2 seconds

People know ghetto method too. It save almost 5 seconds. It is fastest way complete geo core with any-% run.

But actually smilingjack geo core bomb slot stall is 2 seconds faster than natural way. Wink

That was a good dash recit0, i actually had that one planned for my 100% run just i never thought of jumping on top of the boxes. I combat dash from that trooper the second i enter the room. Im not sure which is really faster though.

Some of these tricks are pretty complicated huh...
I've always kinda sucked with speedrunning the Prime games but I don't quite get how some of the tricks are done.
is it worth attempting a proper speedrun in the PAL version anyway? (I know I'm not likely to break any records
but trying on a version where it's near impossible seems to suck some of the fun out of it!)

Actually, you only miss the scan dash in the pal version. There are a couple of small route changes as well but there is no excuse for not trying any speedrun on Metroid Prime. Try and get the space jump as first item, it opens up alot of sequence breaking early on.

It adds fun when you succeed in the near impossible :P

Awesome recit0, i had not thought of that last one.

Edit: Here is another little timesaver, and if you are asking, it can be done fairly consistently but very tricky to figure out the timing though. Just takes time, practice and patience. Oh and sorry if quality is too bad, using digital camera so i could upload it due to video editing computer failure.

I am amazed at these recent discoveries. Excellent work you two. craztad, how many seconds does your recent uploaded trick save?

i don't really know, probably only 1 second. And there are still plenty of timesavers out there. I will try to get up a vid of a new dash within the first 10 seconds of the game and the bomb space jump in the last big room before metroid prime. Of course the bomb space jump isn't new, i just can't seem to find silent echo's vid of it anymore.

Oh and one last thing, if you can manage that bomb jump from the bomb slot to the pipe and then ghetto to the ice beam door, geo core alone we could save about 12 seconds over zoid's 1:03. it is wicked hard though cause most of the time the first bomb i waste knocks me out of the bomb slot hole but if you can latter your bombs right it only takes four out of five of your bombs to make it up to the pipe.

Edit: just timed this against sparkys test segment here and it saves closer to 2 seconds.

ill just keep the ball rolling for the moment.
first one can be useful, the second one im not so sure how much time it will save after having to turn around for the dash.

craztad I thought of that first one a while ago but it's faster (and easier) to just boost through there.

Are you 100% sure its faster to boost or do you think it just seems that way, when i was testing it, i timed it out that i could hit the trigger to load the next room faster with the dash then the boost. I recorded and timed each one until i got 15 or so good attempts starting from the top of the grate like thing used to climb the room. My fastest using boost ended up about .4 seconds slower when the door opened to the elevator when compared to my best dash. For some odd reason it seamed that the trigger was closer higher up than it was down in the phazon. but it also wouldn't be the first time i was wrong.
