Oh well, I've said it before but, your TAS is the first one, mistakes/slow rooms are ok. In a year or so we will have a better, faster TAS route based off tricks you and other people find thought out the TAS you're doing now.
this might interest mrspeedrun who knows i have alot of problem with sjf (hi, lambdan here). you guys have probably seen it before, but i just feel the need to post it, its so easy for noobs like me lol. also dont know if this belongs in this topic but i guess so.
Someone help me on this new SJF dash please, I'm tying to TAS it and do a "hopping dash" into the door after doing the dash the ledge, but I need to be facing the door to shot it and hopping right into SJ with the speed from the dash off the ship, the problem is when I turn in mid air I can't seem to get the angel right and I never make it to the ledge, any suggestions on button input to make this work?
I wouldn't recommend turning around during the dash since that generally decreases distance and height. The only things I would suggest are to play around with the timing of R and also make sure to bend the dash towards the ledge.
You press R for a fraction of a second right after you begin the dash. The timing of the press of R and the amount of time that you hold R is probably what makes or breaks the dash. You never press L after you start the dash.
That's a really cool find. I've messed around with MP enough to know what's going on in the trick. Tapping R during a dash (or any jump for that matter) changes Samus' "in-air" state, for lack of a better explanation. It not only alters Samus' manuverabilty in air, but also seems turn her into some sort of linebacker that can push up and over certain ledges. This effect is the reason why some ghettos are easier if you add R into the mix (landing site ghetto comes to mind). This is probably one of the only instances I've seen it used in a dash, but you can definitely tell it's taking place in this vid.
I can't wait to try this out later tonight.
EDIT: I just tried this for over an hour, and found out T3 makes it look easy. I had a couple of close calls, but they were few and far between. It was nothing like the string of "almosts" you see in T3's vid. He really does tap R the INSTANT after the dash, and it really is JUST a tap, anymore and you won't get jack. The spot you have to hit is pretty small too it seems. I'm finding that there is no room for error. I'm going to try a little bit more, I was just checking in.
I don't know if this is new but theres a different type of dash I just came up with, its most likely only going to be used TAS but anyway, you have to lock onto something and jump normally but before the peak of your jump tap left or right and then hit R you fire yourself downward and if you jump the first frame you hit the ground you seem to move even faster then a normal dash, you may even get more distance and height then a normal dash with the second dash/jump too
I have a video of me doing the first dash non-TAS (in a spot that shows of how it really does shot you downward, btw it can be done to have more speed I'll try to find the fastest way of doing this on dolphin later)
Edit: sorry about the video being crushed it was normal before I uploaded it to youtube :S
I think I have done this on accident quite a few times. If it was ever useful, it would be VERY specialized. In most cases, if you need to go down and travel distance in a room, it's probably faster to just boost in morphball. Idk, feel free to show us something cool.
Nice! but I doubt its a speed trick because you skip the one artifact in magmoor (in the rock) and you'd need to backtrack to wild later on in a run (and Varia takes like not even a minute game time iirc)
