“Well done is better than well said”
Here's a speed trick in GTH: While on the way to get the X-ray visor, use the blood flower to dash from the ledge to the spider track, that most people jump to. It's not hard at all. I just did it 4 out of 5 times with a combination of scan and combat dashes. I'd make a video if i could but I'm not set up for it. You can probably use the sap sac there too, but the other one is easier for me.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but could you use one of the crystallites in Phendrana to get boosted across, say, Ice Ruins West?

Repeated for the page break.

not everyone has topics set to the same number of posts per page, so pointing out page breaks is pretty pointless now.

I don't think I've changed mine from the default, so that's probably what most people have.

why? because you haven't? i agree that most people are probably using the default, but your logic doesn't make any sense. :P

How about "I don't think I've changed mine from the default, and that's probably what most people have."?

Hey guys I've been trying to find that video for climbing metroid quarantine A. It's for people that can't do the dash off the missile expansion. It's the one that uses an invisible ledge above the spider tracks. I can't find the video for the life of me. I'm trying to help a friend that can't bend dashes that well yet. We need an alternate method so he can get past that room when I'm not with him. Thanks.

I would venture to say this is way harder than the dash, tho...

Good call baby Sheegoth. That way was way harder than the dash. Sadly, neither one of us could make the jump to the invisa-ledge above the spider tracks. So, by necessity he was eventually able to learn to bend dashes and can now make the room no problem.

New question: I read somewhere about a trick in lifegrove. It had something to do with laying a power bomb right before you acquired the x-ray visor. I think it was supposed to break the barrier around the room while the cut scene was being played or something like that. I can't find anything on it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm working on a new run and I would like to use the trick if at all possible.

It is possible. but you need to lay the bomb right before you grab the x-ray. And if I remeber correctly the "seeghot" or whatever its called don't show up so you lose a PB from that trick
The timing is quite hard to get. If you pick up the x-ray visor too early after laying the PB, the walls won't break during the cutscene.

Okay, so there is no special trick besides the timing of the bomb? Like, where does the bomb need to be laid? How much time does it save? Does anyone have a video?

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to pull out all the stops on this next run.

I just bumped into this one : http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?MetroidPrime_eu_22p_126
It's in part 10 (labelled part10 but the name of the file is actually part13).
Very nice segment btw.

Thank you! I agree those were some really nice segments, but they were from Stefan, so that is to be expected. ;)

The trick doesn't look too hard. If I can get it to work at least 50% of the time I'll put it in my run.

I'm trying to incorporate all these new tricks into my run and it's harder than I thought it would be. Each one takes some serious time and effort to perfect and I've got two pages of tricks that I am attempting to learn. Most of them are small but there are a few that have me scratching my head. By far, the biggest problem I'm running into is dieing because I don't have enough e-tanks. Currently I'm only picking up one, but I don't even want to do that, but those Phazon Mines segments are such a bitch...

Edit: Quick question: I read somewhere that in monitor station in route to Phendrana, it is actually faster to dash to the main platform's "legs" and use the "peg" to jump up to the bridge leading to the Phendrana door, rather than use that ghetto to get on those invisa-ledges that lead around the room. Is this true, and if so how much time does it save?

I've got a pretty good way of doing the "peg jump" right now. It basically emulates what smilingjack did in his 3 tank VMR. So all I really need to know is if it's even worth it to do...

smilingjack was the only one to ever record 3vmr
& powerbomb OP, takes a lot of luck but it's sosososo much faster
Then again, a vid by Stefan :

It can probably be done a little faster. I believe it's faster than the old method, but I've never timed it.
Good luck on your run. Maybe you can find a little inspiration from Sparky's test run : http://m2k2.taigaforum.com/post/vykan12_segment_links_55.html#vykan12_segment_links_55

Wow, I've never seen that before but it's exactly how I was performing the trick, same dash points and all. If the trick saves time I'm sure it's not, much maybe 1 or two seconds. I wish things were a little easier to time. I can't record things, so it looks like I'm going to have to buy a stop watch and start it before a trick then play and try to remember to stop it after the trick is done.

I thought powerbombs only affected OP in the other versions of MP (I have original NTSC). Plus PBs are really a hot commodity late into the game, I'm not sure where you would pick up another one if you used one on OP. (You need one for artifact of warrior during the phendrana pickup segment.)

(I just recently saw sparky's test run. It was amazing. I left him a comment insinuating that he was a robot...)

BTW, does anyone have any tips for bj-ing out of the hole used to access the artifact in control tower? I've seen vids but they don't explain the actual mechanics behind the trick. I tried for half an hour the other day but didn't even make it once...

always move fast
just checked the timing for monitor station, stefan's video is about 4 seconds longer than climbing the wall and using the puffer dash.  for control tower, you gotta do it the same way you do arboretum or gth, except with a 3bj this time.  basically, don't press against the wall during the jump, but instead press to the side near the apex of the jump.  this (ideally) gives you forward momentum to get onto the ledge.  it's pretty tricky.

Thanks for the advice on the 3bj. I'm going to try it tonight. I'm almost to the "phendrana pickup" segment in my "learn the new tricks" run. (BTW, busting down the pb walls in life grove is super easy now that I know how to do it. Thx Oliver)

I was finally able to get a decent phazon mines segment leading up to OP. The segment was nearly flawless. I made both the metroid dashes in fungal hall A and B, and was even able to incorporate a new dash across the phazon pit in metroid quarantine A. The only thing I wasn't able to do was the dash across the phazon pit in metroid quarantine B using the plasma trooper. But, I did make it to the other side by jumping off the phazon node (on my first try) so I didn't lose that much time. I went ahead and kept the segment since this is more of a learning process than a real run.

Yeah, so all I have is the OP segment, then I'll be ready for the 3bj out of the hole. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

In the Waste Disposal, going in reverse way, at the last bomb/air boost thing charge a boost after the bomb explodes, then at the peak of the jump, boost to the left. That should save .5/1.0 seconds
