As you might have guessed by the thread title my emulator of choice is Snes9x. Please, no flames. It was my first ever SNES emulator and I fell in love with it.
Anyway, I've gotten the space/time beam to work, and in the right place. However, when I morph into a ball and lay the bombs to open the door, the screen goes black. I can still hear the music and see how many missiles, super missiles and power bombs I have but otherwise the game is totally froze.
Does anyone else have this problem with this glitch? Does it only work with certain emulators?

I'll be back. Maybe...
I use Snes9x. I never had any problems like that. It's probably that you're using the bombs, when the grapple is what should be used to open the door.

Alternatively, you could do this the normal way: open the door (door to old Tourian escape shaft from bottom of Super Missile expansion room) with the Space/Time beam, so you don't need to use another weapon. Apparently firing a Super the other way after shooting the door helps, though.

I use SNES9x as well, and have never had a problem with the reset glitch, then again, you might be activating it in a different area. I go to the room in Crateria right before the wrecked ship. I go down to the bottom of the water, and walk over to the left of the shootable blocks that lead to the missile pack. I fire the beam (All beams but Wave) to the left, go up to the door (either works to my knowledge, but the one to the left is easier), fire a super missile at it, and walk through. And there you go. Never had any problems doing that.

How do you guys play on the emu?  I use the keyboard, but I find it cumbersome.  You guys got a usb controller or do you use the keyboard?

I am so good at using the keyboard that I can play SSB pretty well.

The space/time beam is the Plasma, Spazer, and Ice beams together (NOT the wave beam-using that gives you the Murder Beam, which is very different). Anyway, if you fire the space/time beam in certain areas at point blank and then save and reset, you'll be back at the beginning of the game, with all the items you had at the point you saved. This allows you to use certain weapons against particular bosses you wouldn't normally have, such as the plasma beam on Crocomire, which kills him in one hit and allows you to do the "behind Crocomire" trick with the Spring Ball (check the site for more info), as well as other stuff.

I'm pretty good at using the keyboard myself. I'm probably better using the keyboard than I would be using the controller. When I first started playing around with SNES9x I was pretty bad at using the keyboard but that was a couple years ago.
Now I wouldn't (and probably couldn't) have it any other way.

I still use the console when I can (not often because my adaptor is crappy), but I've gotten better with the keyboard and can even wall jump now.

I can't use the keyboard to control any game, unless it's really simple or something. I hate using the keyboard for anything more than hotkeys, such as in Diablo II.

when my tv broke, i tried emulating super metroid.  it totally sucked on the keyboard.  especially when i found out i couldn't press three letter keys at once, which eliminated the possibility of using crystal flash.

i'm with you on the hotkeys, ark.  they found a good compromise between cumbersome (like in diablo i, where there were no hotkeys) on the mouse side and cumbersome (like games where you use w, a, s, d, or the arrow keys) on the keyboard side.

I just downloaded the rom myself, but is it possible to change the controls on the emulator?  Crying or Very sad

yes.  there is an options -> joypad or somethingrather there that allows you to set each button input.  i tried other key combinations so i could press three buttons at once, but it was impossible to hit the buttons normally.  i hate keyboards, unless it's for typing.

typing: easy  rom gaming: hard.  3 button presses: impossible except for some odd variation using one of the arrow keys as something else (i got this from a friend, i've never been able to do 3 button presses without by computer beeping at me. but then, i didn't try my friends combo thingie)

i'm getting better, however, at the gaming. i'd personally rather play the actual game, however. better experience

This is exactly why I, even though everybody bitches at me, like my config. Using WASD and Num[1,2,3,4,5,6], I can press as many as five keys at the same time, while keeping myself in shape. :P And besides, that layout corresponds to the actual way controllers are designed (movement on the left, action on the right), so why bother with a mirrored configuration? :P

W = Up
A = Left
S = Down
D = Right
Num1 = Y
Num2 = B
Num3 = A
Num4 = L
Num5 = X
Num6 = R

If you compare that to a normal controller...
Code:
    /\         L  X  R
   <  >          Y A
    \/            B

-------------------------

    W           4 5 6
   ASD          1 2 3
It's the same basic structure, which is why I feel extremely comfortable with it. :)

If you want a good place to try it, try the Crateria shaft with the door at the bottom leading to Old Tourian. I think it works there, but as I say, be VERY careful, as you may just end up freezing your game. Also, the special beams don't work well with emu's, so only use it on an emu if you know exactly what you're doing.

Another thing I learnt the hard way... Crying or Very sad

Actually, the classic (though not only) place to use it is in the room just off the Crateria shaft you mentioned, reached by bombing a block to the right of the last ledge on the right wall before the bottom door and then going through the yellow door there.  There's a vid at SCU showing it.  Actually, now that I check, they have one for console (the location I just mentioned) and one for emulator (near the Wrecked Ship), and directions for each.

Everytime I use the Space/Time Beam I use it in the big room in Pink Brinstar. You know the room where you bomb the blocks for the Charge Beam. Anyways this is the first time I heard the Crateris Shaft area.
