The flesh is spongy and bruised
It's like a PSP but rounder

Let's hope they put PS2 games on it, which is entirely plausible give it was having a go at PS3 games in some demos.

HRGH I don't have the money to buy all these consoles and games.  2011 is simultaneously the best and worst year in a while for video games.

It doesn't look much different in size to the PSP-1000, which is to say that it's portable in a stick-it-in-your-bag kinda way.

Well, I'll say one thing right off the bat: thank God for dual analog sticks. As for how good it will be as a console or how well it competes against the 3DS, well I can't really say yet, other than I don't think that it will dominate the handheld market.

Oh, and being able to play PS2 games on a handheld would kick ass. I agree with that.

the PSP was already capable of playing PS2 games, so I'm sure this one will do it without any problems at all.

I'm very excited for it, especially when I read that they plan to have a new monster hunter launch with the new system. At this point I highly doubt I'm going to be buying a 3DS this year, unless I come across a very large amount of money. There just aren't any games for the 3DS that I really want. Animal Crossing looks awesome, but everything else doesn't appeal at all. I'm actually planning to buy a PS3 instead of a 3DS since both will cost about the same (the PS3 will actually be cheaper).

The hardware on the PSP2 is looking amazing so far, which means the battery life is going to suck, but in the end I don't think that matters. I can't think of a situation where I haven't been able to just plug in whatever hand held I'm using to an outlet. I'm either in a building, or in a car, so as long as it has a 2 hour battery life I will be totally content.

I have to wonder if they're going to put Oblivion on the PSP2. It can certainly handle it, and it would pretty much be the best thing ever.

Hmm... NGP or 3DS? I think NGP is more impressive since it has PS3 graphic, both front and back touch pad, and a retina display. What's special about 3DS? Just 3D without glasses, pretty much it.

getting there...
I had my PSP stolen from me on Christmas eve of last year. The way I had it set up (cracked), it was one of my favorite consoles of all time. I had an 8gb card in that shiny black portable and about 500 games. In terms of versatility the PSP was virtually unmatched. It was my nine systems in one, it was my baby...

So, I've been anxiously awaiting this announcement to see whether I would buy another PSP or wait for the rumored PSP2. I'm glad I waited.

My favorite aspect has to be the dual analog sticks. That inclusion alone expands the number of genres the PSP2 can successfully play greatly. Secondly, that big ol' OLED is going to look too sexy. I can't wait to feast my eyes on those black levels. Lastly, there is an amazing amount of power under that hood. Smartphones are just now getting into dual core processors, but the NGP has a quadcore, PLUS a dedicated GPU! The exciting part for me isn't that the games will look amazing (though that's a nice plus) it's how much headroom they will have to create robust physics engines. I love me some physics puzzles.

Call me sucker, but I'm going to be an early adopter this time around (the first time since the Wii way back in 06'). The game plan is to put away about 500 bones of my tax return and just sit on it until release. Sure, the experience will be excruciating, but can you imagine the elation of unboxing a console that you waited, money in hand, so patiently for?

All that being said, I do have my worries. First off, It appears as if the battery will not be removeable. This is huge, considering you're buying a device that you hope to frequently use for the next five years. Batteries degrade over time, and that battery is going to be trashed after just about three. Another concern is that while money may not be an issue for me, the rest of the world may not be able to make such a sacrifice. The NGP could fail just based on price alone.

BUT, I'm still getting one because, worst comes to worse, the NGP fails after releasing only 10 AAA games. Then Sony drops support and no longer cares about the hacking community, they crack it, and now I've got a big PSP (backwards compatibility), that can emulate anything up to the Dreamcast, plus a library of at least 30 truly gorgeous NGP games.

I wonder if emulating the gamecube on the PSP2 will ever happen. It seems possible, right?

that will probably be something for the 3ds

I was thinking hardware-wise. I doubt the 3DS will have the power to run a gamecube emulator nicely. Perhaps if Nintendo re-releases gamecube games, but that kinda defeats the point.

I don't really get what you mean by this, the 3000 didn't have any problems getting cracked as long as you didn't have the most recent OFW at the time. Even then there was the Halfbyte Loader which still let you emulate the GBA and install some homebrew games/apps, just not run iso's.

my point was kinda that at least sony will probably try very hard to fight cracking from the start on.

and the 3ds is supposed to be some kind og gcn portable iirc. i believe they even said programming games for it will work just like on the gamecube.

ah that's cool then, I hadn't heard about that. The gamecube has a nice library so that would be good for the 3DS.

metroid prime portable would be nice, though nitnendo is probably going to pull that anyways.

I'm really looking forward to how improved the visuals will be, for both the 3DS and psp2. Metroid Prime right now still has very impressive graphics, even for today, so if the 3DS will be able to math that it will make for some very nice gaming. I don't think graphics are all that matters in a game, but if a game has awesome graphics it really helps make the overall experience more enjoyable.

Pikmin would be awesome, along with super smash bros, and Resident Evil of course. Oh and mario sunshine.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they release a remake of sunshine for the 3DS. I thought they would have done it for the DS since the touchscreen seems like it would be perfect for sunshine.

yeah i can see it being good for spouting water around, but you'd still need to jump and slide. knowing how sensitive sunshine is, i doubt everything crammed on touch controls would work well with it

What Nintendo should have done is added a second analog stick. I guess they have to take baby steps though and just add one at a time.

Really glad the PSP2 has two analog sticks. It should make FPS much nicer. Or first person anything really.
