i hear amd is completely thrashing intel when it comes to 64 bit instructions. but i also am acutely aware that i don't give a shit about 64 bit computing atm, so there you go.
It's just that Intel has taken a rather nice leap forward...
Don't you mean Leap ahead™?!?!?!?!?
To be serious, though, I've never seen a reason to use AMD. They're better for graphics/games and whatnot, but I'd argue that Intel chips are better for multi-tasking and the like, which is exactly what I need-- I don't play CPU-intensive games anymore; running zillions of shit at once is my main concern. I've used Intel my entire life and have never had a problem with one. Also, Intel seems to have been the clear winner in development over the past six months, and they show no signs of slowing down. I'm not saying that I think AMD is inferior or that I dislike AMD; it's just that I'd never personally use one for my purposes. And Intel just has a "cleaner" look to it (the company itself) that I like. With all that said, the TouchSmart looks to be designed for family use (i.e. multitasking) and not gaming. I have no clue why they stuck an AMD chip in there when it's way better suited for Intel.

Ha, no. AMD doesn't really have anything on Intel right now. They were completely thrashing them with regard to x64 (and, some will say debatably, x86)... The Pentium 4 was horrible.
There's not much reason to go AMD at this time. Besides...perhaps cost? Of course, that'll only be a real factor if you build your own...
Also, Hejira, what's wrong with HP? If I were ever to buy another PC (lol), it'd definitely be an HP, whether it be desktop or laptop. I'd trust anything made by Hewlett-Packard (I don't count Compaq) with my life, particularly their printers.
Almost half of my classmates have a HP laptop. They all seem to love them. And we're talking people who actually know something about computers, here, unlike myself.
Alright, guys, I finally got my wiimote to work as my mouse... this is pretty cool. Currently, I am using the tilt sensing, but I will test IR once I finish my close range sensor bar.
Once, I had this plan that I was going to buy a PS3 from Japan and play PS1 and 2 imports on it. Sony seems to have killed that for now, since they seem to be planning to remove the hardware backwards compatibility from the damn things (European launch, from what I've heard) and now I've seen this.
