can post about whatever's going on in your life here. this can include anything from 'my boy/girlfriend dumped me' to 'check out this cool video/game/video game/video game video [link]' and the other members of the forum can discuss it. yes, this topic will resemble a conversation on irc, but not everyone can get on irc, and irc by its nature is not a friendly place for everyone to have a conversation.

above all this topic will adhere to a set of rules even more stringent than those which apply to the rest of the forum, meaning that if we don't like your post, it will be deleted. the launch of this topic also means that such personal commentary/personal 'this is cool' topics elsewhere may be locked or deleted with a note to you saying to take it to the social topic. thus, the purpose of this topic is to take the place of the many tiny topics which have ruled the boardwalk up to this point. we feel that this new system will be superior the old for many reasons, one of which being that you can now safely quote ancient messages (from this topic inside this topic) without fear of being modded for gravedigging. in this topic, anything is on topic.

i hereby put forth a suggestion for the first topic of the social topic: homosexuality! - on my mind recently has been relations with the same sex. our european friends don't seem to have problems with this, so why does the us? i've heard it's because this country was founded on the beliefs of an ultra-conservative minority that left europe in order to exert better control over their cohorts. the nature of that control was fundamentalist bible-based living, and apparently there is some stuff against homosexuality in the bible, so their (our) society became that, as well. fast forward two hundred some years and while the rest of the world (except our islamic extremist friends) has moved on, the us is still stuck in the 17th century, with public homosexuality being unacceptable and dangerous in many parts of the country due to who holds power there (religious gurus and their minions).

is there any hope for this situation, e.g. a martin luther king jr. style 180 degree turn in the near future, or am i condemned to live in a bigoted country for the rest of my life? also, do any homophobes have any additional insight that might help explain why y'all are so influential/powerful here? i mean, i'm curious as to exactly how you can look at science, which gave us everything we have in terms of the ability to communicate with one another across long distances and so on, and say no, that's not truth ... i'm going to believe something unproven instead; i'm going to live by what someone else tells me rather than by what i can see proven right in front of me.

discuss!

Wasn't the whole point of life, as Greece (and/or Genesis) discovered, to multiply and replenish? Can't do that without being straight. The only reason why we should allow homosexuality is for the sake of comedy.

Oh, and I decided that my 52:57 is total crap. RE-DO!!

that's for me to know and you to find out!

but seriously, i don't think it should matter.

only like 7%? or something of people are gay though ... so it seems to me that mammal populations reproduce fine due to that. and, i mean, it's not like animals have outlawed gay animals or something.

In response to Nate: I personally am neutral towards the issue of homosexuality. I'm definitely not the kind of person who says, "yeah, let them get married!!", but I'm not totally against ever hearing/seeing/reading about homosexuals. I do feel, however, that homosexuals should not force others to try and accept them, and, on the contrary, heterosexuals should not try and force homosexuals to "not be gay". It's all a personal choice/preference/whatever, and I can respect that, as long as rights aren't being violated. About the marriage thing, as a Christian, I believe that "marriage" is defined as "between a man and a woman". Having a relationship with a member of the same sex is fine by me, but marriage is not, as, well, it's not marriage. I just don't think you can call it that. Homosexuals living together, spending their lives together, etc. is all good and fine, but entering the bond of marriage is just not possible for two members of the same sex to do, imo.

Also, I want to reinforce that you can talk about anything in this thread, not just the issue of homosexuality. That was just something to start us off. But please, people, let's make this intelligent.

me personally? i feel that "die wërde des menschen ist untastbar" ... the dignity of man is untouchable. there are certain things that mankind should not (and, in reality, can not) try to affect.

and as for what ark said about annoying homosexuals having parades and stuff, i think the only reason they do that is because people try to outlaw them and so on. people who are annoyed by that should stop electing people who want to legislate against homosexuals. the sooner it becomes normal, the sooner it stops being an issue.

Nun, ich wërde sagen die Wërde ist schon antastbar, und wer sie antastet, durch beleidigen oder ëbler nachrede, der wird angeklagt. I would say, I like gay people. Often the're really cool in their lifestyle, but I'm not gay though.

Liked?

Anyway, supermpaddict, you have to realise that others may not feel the same as you do about things.

laney basically said that it is touchable, and that the people who do it are charged with doing it (like a crime). i agree in that i hear in the phrase kind of like a "should", so it's more like "the dignity of man should not be touched, or else", so yes, society's job in that case is to prosecute those who show counterproductive behavior, such as bigotry. the problem is that in this country, there are legal societies where it is encouraged and rewarded.

Tell that to the Isle of Mann.  >_>

But seriously, I really don't mind what other people get up to in private, as long as it's not affecting other people.  It's not like I'd shun someone or treat them differently if they were gay.

I doubt it, tbh.  I tend to go against quite a lot of their views; while they're not strictly religious, they are quite traditional.  To tell the truth, the idea of watching or taking part in gay sex does disgust me, but then I'm sure some of the things I like would disgust others.

My position on the issue is similar to most of my friends'.  I don't have any problem with homosexuals whatsoever so long as they don't hit on me, which isn't asking too much.  I'm straight, and I don't like insinuations that I'm not straight.  It's easy to say "not that there's anything wrong with that", but for me, I'm straight, so there is something wrong with me being gay, that being that I'm not gay.  I'm proud of being straight and the idea of being gay goes against my biological wiring.  But that's just talking about myself.  For homosexuals I imagine they'd be annoyed if someone insinutated that they were straight.  I mean it kind of sucks for gays in Texas where "gay", "fag", and "queer" are still insults directed at people of all sexual orientations.  I knew a couple gay guys in high school, and the jocks were always cracking jokes about them.  Really very childish.

Yes, I avoided the censor because this is a serious discussion and I was making a serious point.  If that's not okay, let me know.

A very good friend of mine's is gay, and I talked about this subject with my parents and in fact my father would be kinda disappointed with me if I told him I was gay. Fortunately, I'm not so this problem won't encounter me.

You know what I wanted to say is: Gay people are for me like everyone else. They're not worse humans.
But, the great masses can be really humiliating, even if you aren't gay.

Single Sex schools suck. Discuss  Laughing

I've been at a Boys school for 5 years, and now I've left and am in a mixed school. I've been getting on much better, and my studies have vastly improved. Has anyone had a single sex school experience? If so, how did/do you find it?

Heh, I found it very strange that not a single person there was gay (well, not openly gay) and no-one seemed to be. Meh, strange stuff =p
