Has there been any changes in routes or tricks on human runs(no TAS)? I've been away for some time but this hotarubi run caught my attention. I would love to try and will to break this time but there won't be any record for me. As nate knows I can't get legit runs now unless I somehow got a SNES cleaning kit to get it working again.

I will still practice and play on my DS.

I don't know if this is new or not, but this is a run by Cpadolf.

It is crazy. Help from Kejardon and others (MathOnNapkins?) for that little skipping of the 4 Statue bosses, and the part where he lets Samus die to skip Mother Brain. Don't ask me how it works. It's crazy and makes my brain hurt with my High School education 0.o.

Lucied loses points.

Anyways, I seem to remember reading that 072 was going to try using the TAS route for a potential-SDA run.

OW. That was my pride. It shattered....

I thought the TAS route is not a good choice for console, since there are some tricks (1-round phantoon for example) you can`t perform in realtime so you have no benefit in terms of time?

The idea was that the TAS route with a perfect 2-round Phantoon fight would be 30-40 seconds faster. That alone is insanely difficult, but combined with the two frame-precise moves needed for CWJing the missile lake, you can understand why people stick with the old route. If it works though, it may lead to sub-30.

As for the old route, I made a few changes to Hotarubi's:

-Skip Ice until after Draygon, and then go to LN using the passage there
-A wrap-around shot in the room after the elite pirates, and a shinespark through the next two rooms
-Skipping the baby Metroid

Combined they amount to about 10 seconds saved.

Are his random (and maybe slow) patterns already included in this 40 seconds?
A perfect fight might be hindered by the game`s mood...

Anyway, if you really manage, hotarubi has a problem.

The fight would have to be close to as fast as it normally would be, meaning his two fastest patterns. The 40 seconds come from cutting out two trips through Red Brinstar and delaying Kraid until after Maridia, minus the 15-20 second slower WS.

I would try segmented first.
In a SS run you could be lucky and catch his fast patterns, but make to much mistakes afterwards...or you need ten attempts before he is kind to you...or both in combination...horrible.

Is it sure that the patterns are completely random or can you "stimulate" them?
You should ask Kejardon about that, before you eat your controller. ;)

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
I haven't looked at it myself, but IIRC TASers have said it only depends on the frame you enter the room. If that's right, it's almost surely based straight from the RNG, so no real-time manipulation of Phantoon's patterns.

Heh, I don't even know if it is possible in a segmented run yet; SS is out of the question.

By Cpadolf and Hero of the Day. It was a collaborated movie.

On another note, some weeks ago I got 47'03 unassisted for Ceres, but I'm going to try to improve that someday.

it seems that 072 is the only guy here speedrunning. I never thought WS-first route was feasible at all (at least for any% runs) but it seems that you're really going for it. Besides bomb jumping the lake in _one_ try and doing Phantoon 2-round, is there another mayor obstacle to be aware of before taking that path?

I'd like to hear some of your ideas and progress.

I believe Hotarubi's still at it. Last I heard he had a ss :31 run that he feels isn't a big enough improvement to send in. Is Blueglass still doing that 100% ss? I think he had :54 some time last year or something, didn't he?

You mean a mayor obstacle that requires impeachable precision as such? The Red Brinstar shaft is pretty tough, but it's nothing compared to Missile Lake.

Actually, the only reason I'm posting here at all is to join the pun. Sorry.

It isn't really that the missile lake is difficult, but since there is no such thing as consistency when it comes to frame-perfect tricks, adding to the already insane randomness of the segment is why it's a big problem. You already have a 1/9 chance of getting Phantoon's quickest patterns. It's hard to believe that will now be the least of my worries for this segment.

As for progress, I'm going to continue the run I was recording soon, so you'll at least be able to see up to Red Brinstar.

Well, you know what they say: if you give a room full of monkeys an infinite amount of time, they'll create a perfect unassisted speed run.

Keep at it, I love all of y'all's runs.

Well, I once did a single segment Phantoon first route [first try cwj (it really isn't that hard)] and I got a really low :33. But the run was and incredible energy and ammo crunch so it could be faster in a segmented run, but not by much, I imagine.
