Would mockball count as a glitch? It doesn't seem too...well...glitchy, if you know what I mean.

Well, since the mockball is a flying ball going along the ground, yes it's a glitch.

Is this speed run glitchless enough that it would have been the record at Twin Galaxies if Smokey wanted to submit it? Btw...what is the record at Twin Galxies?

I know you guys kinda hate Twin Galaxies...but I'm just curious.

Here ya go:

"Variation: Minimalist Speed Run (no saves)

Platform: SNES

Rules: 1 life only, continuous game with no saves/deaths/continues. The game's internal clock will be used to determine your time. The pause button may be used to enter subscreens and/or skip animations (ex: energy refill stations). Usage of the "Mockball" trick (unusually-fast morph ball) IS permitted. Crystal Flash (move that trades weapons for energy) may be used at ANY time (even in tight passages). Most other glitches are banned for this game, so be sure to ask ahead of time if you plan on using a speed tactic that involves one.

% Score: 100%

Fastest time: 42.00.000

Player: Brian S Hodge"

I went and looked at the page (http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&pi=32&gi=516&vi=545) and I'm pretty sure that the 100% doesn't mean 100% items.  I can see 42 with just the mockball, because that's the only "glitch" I ever use, anyway.  My best time with only using that is what's in my avatar.  I'll probably be trying for a glitchless pure speed, because I don't really feel like improving a glitch run.

I believe the 100% there means that 100% of that player's submissions are #1 records.

Hello, new here, etc...

Sorry for the post in a topic that hasn't been replied to in two weeks, but I thought you'd like to know about the "100%" next to the 42 minute score on Twin Galaxies.

The 100% actually means close to nothing here. For SCORE-based games, it's a measure of, literally, your score as a percentage of the #1 score. In simple terms, the #1 score on a title (Be it measured by socre or time) will ALWAYS have a "100%" next to them--as this one, presently the only Super Metroid score there, does. It has nothing to do with the item collection percentage in Super Metroid, nor does it have anything to do with their other records.

There's an algorithm they use for determining the percentage in time-based games, too, though I don't know what it is. I'm guessing that if a non-#1 takes twice as long as a #1 score, it'll get a 50%, and so on.

EDIT: Did a bit of research on the percentage-as-relates-to-time-based-tracks on TG using the scores on the original Legend of Zelda for NES. It seems my original presumption is correct, though I really don't feel like going into the mathematical details.

Also, if anyone is curious for some reason, yes, I'm the same Emptyeye that has some runs up on SDA. No Metroid as of yet, though, and that probably won't change. :)

Time bomb set get out fast!
Heh, wish I'd seen this thread earlier.  DominicanZero and I investigated this "100%" run months ago -- the time was so outrageous there had to be something amiss.  Emptyeye's right about the "percentage of #1 time" thing.  Funny that there's no column on their chart for completion percentage; in a game like Super Metroid, I'd have thought that would be a given.  When I asked their SNES guy about it, he said it wasn't necessary, as it stands to reason that the lower the time, the lower the percentage.  Yeahhhh.
