I uh, can't get anything in the editor to work.

EDIT:  Just kidding, figured it out.

Hmm... I tried messing around with a bit unsuccessfully... is it possible to add new items (missles, energy tanks, etc) and if so, how would you go about it?

If there is a faq or instructions someone could share, I would be grateful... this is something intriguing to me.

The help files are... uh... in progress. Slowly. Sometimes.

Items are considered PLMs (Post Load Modifications). To make a new item in an area, you need to first increase the number of PLMs in the room, then right click on a new PLM and change it to an item pickup. You'll also probably want to change the Unknown to 01, and keep track of which indexes you use. Each item should have a different index value. Technically, the Unknown and Index values are part of the same value, I don't know why Jathys has them seperate. All the items in the game are set to Unknown/Index of 0000 - 0063 or so, and up to 01FF are safe to use, so if you use Unknown 01, none of the values should overlap with anything else in the game. Or if you want it to respawn every time, you can just leave it at Unknown 80 and never worry about it again

SMILE still requires the user to know a lot of what they're doing, and without much in the way of help files at the moment, you'll have to rely on other people to fill you in for now. :/ Ironically, the Japanese (who seem to monitor this board as well) have made pretty good help files, but you have to read Japanese for them to do you any good. :P

Edit: A good way to learn how to do something is to look at how the game does it and copy. A lot of enemies need to be used this way, since they may need special settings, and some block/bts combinations have unusual properties you wouldn't expect. Like Power bomb and Super Missile blocks.

Edit Edit: I miscalculated something... Item index values of 0000 - 01FF are safe to use. Sigfriedxx, that's to you too, I said 27F before, but that's only for Event bits.

Hmm, when I try to use smile to open up my ROM, it's not there. Apparantly it only takes .snes(?) files, but mines in .swc. The emulator plays it fine but smile doesn't. Any ideas? (i'm a noob)

It needs .smc files. I'm not sure, but I think you can just plain rename it to fix it. As far as I know, there's actually no difference between the files.

I'll be back. Maybe...
winzip is made redundant by zipfldr.dll, which is included in windows and allows you to open zip files without any other software.
you need nothing to run it, but you will need a sm rom to do anything with it, obviously. you can probably find one of those fairly easily if you haven't got one already, but you should bear in mind the fact that downloading commercial roms is illegal in most countries.

Mister ...
Ok... well ...
1) My CPU doesn't come with Winzip, I have to download it 'cause that's how bad my CPU sucks.
2) When I open up SMILE, I get a thing that pops up saying "Please select the type of media (or something) to open file with".  Do I open SM first?
EDIT:
3) The SMILE Thing is a zip file, so I need to get WINZIP don't I?

CPU or OS?  i think you mean OS, in that case most OS's you need to get a zip program from the net, like win sip...

As for smile, open it up and it'll ask you to select the rom file, make sure the rom file is not in a zip.... then you simply select a room from the room list in the top right menu

CPU I mean the overall computer.  Not some mother board or anything. I'm not that great with computer knowledge.

But, don't use winzip or use it?

I tried loading SMILE on my laptop and I get an error message that reads:
Run time error '76':
Path not found

I also get an replacement error, and it wants to replace about 5 of the pictures.. and they all vary in size.
Like it will try and replace a file with the same name, but the new one will be twice it's previous size.

--------

I also tried installing it on my PC, it will open.. but when I load the ROM, it just sits there.. and nothing ever happens.
