Standard SM buttons. For the whole of my gaming life I have used my thumb for the main buttons, it's simple to just hold B with part of my thumb then A to jump, and with the other end of my thumb I can shoot and item cancel. I tap L and R with my index fingers when I need to and use my left thumb to move.

It's different for everyone though, some people use two of their fingers to press the buttons, I've tried it and I didn't feel comfortable, I only do that with an arcade button set.

i use my thumb to dash and jump, rrrr hard to explain but i can press both a and b button with the thumb.

i use my forefinger to shot and press r button (of course not at the same time)

Man, using the index finger to shot in the default setting is so complicated and unneeded. Just use your middle part of the thump to switch between run and jump, and the top/tip of it for shooting. Unless you have pretty small hands it absolutely shouldn't be a problem to handle this 3 buttons with just the thumb that way.

well my fingers are pretty special, ppl say that they are glue like fingers lol, i also play the piano, and i have a very good agility and flexibility of my fingers, so i feel comfortable that way. xD

Good for you then. With such fingers you could definitely be a good speedrunner. :)

I used to play the Piano but I don't think controllers are meant for your fingers, it just takes more effort. As long as you can press all the buttons the rest is down to your reflex's and timing. I can play fighting games in exactly the same way with both a controller and arcade stick, my thumb can be just as agile as me fingers. Also... I'm a pretty fast typer laugh new.
