Well, the general opinion on this site is that Super Metroid is the greatest game in the series, and the general opinion about the series on this site is that it is one of the best ever. So in short, the general opinion from this site would be that Super Metroid is one of the greatest games of all time, if you think that is worth a couple of bucks then go for it.

I got Super Metroid on VC just last week, and it's worth every Wii point I used.  I already beat the game once, and it's my favorite 2D Metroid game, and before I played it, I wasn't much of a 2D Metroid fan at all.  This game is almost as good as Metroid Prime and Prime 3: Corruption (if not better), which are my favorite 3D games.

There's nothing quite like loading up your Wii and beating Super Metroid for the umpteenth time.

Best 8 dollars I've ever spent.

(Also, invest in a classic controller. In my opinion it just feels weird playing with anything but.)

Just use a GCN controller, that's what I use.  You don't need to waste money on a classic controller.

Really, I don't see the incentive in buying a game on the VC that you already have sitting in your SNES.

If you want to play a true masterpiece of game design that may never be equaled again, YES! Make sure you play it where you can hear the awesome soundtrack.

I think it's pretty obvious that ray1 doesn't have it in his SNES. He might not even have an SNES.

I know, but I'm talking about people who do have the game (or any game for that matter), and still get it on the VC. Is it just the better controller? IS the CC even better for this game? I know that the GC controller sucks ass for SM (I tried it on SSBB), but I don't know about the CC.

I find the GCN controller easy to use for SM.  And I don't have a classic controller.

I've played through Super once on the VC version and I have the classic controller. From what I remember, it felt very close to the same exact experience I have when I play Super on the SNES with that controller, so to me there isn't really much of a difference there. Super is the only game that I already owned which I picked up on VC as well, seeing as it and Prime are my favorite games of all time. I think the other reason I picked it up is so that, if my SNES ever dies on me or doesn't follow me once I leave home after college, I'll still have a copy of it that I can play. (Because I feel the Wii has a better chance of coming with me when that time comes.)

Mister ...
I need to get a Point Card so I can get Super Metroid.  My SNES finally kicked the bucket a few months ago, so I now have classic games but nothing to play them on.  I didn't have Super Metroid to begin with, so it won't be a waste of $8.
