yet another great segment paraxade. i know this is like the 15th time i have said that but it really is amazing at all the little exploits most of us have missed that you have used and will probably continue to add to the list. I think i only used one terminal fall in my run that i can remember and i would have never thought of using one in the latest seg, good stuff man.
Save was 1:06. craztad had 1:18 so I'm 12 minutes ahead now. It's not on FileFront because it's being lame and apparently logging me out in mid-upload.
I love that you're getting back into this run Paraxade. I'm about to watch the latest seg'
Gotta ask though, Bryyo, your first time through gateway, you did what looked like a scandash over to the raised bridge section to your right, then a SSJ up to the second rail tunnel. Then there's grand court post grapple swing and the two SSJ's up to the ledge outta the room.
I can't pull off any of these. The scandash never got me enough distance, the SSJ in the same room was hell, delaying my unmorph or hitting my head on the platform above.
Then in grand court, the ground beneath the ledge was rough, and I kept rolling around. I did find the plant, but when I managed to pull off the jump, I always seemed to be too far away from the ledge. The second SSJ needed more height, and I couldn't pull off a BSSJ.
Alpha/Omega: For the scan dash, you need to jump right as you're about to fall off so you keep some of the speed from when you strafe off a ledge while locked onto something. It requires very precise timing, so it's not easy to do at all. For Gateway, just practice. Try to be farther to the left maybe. Grand Court: ...I don't know what plant you're talking about actually. :P IIRC I always just rolled to about right before where it starts sloping down toward the wall and did it there, you don't roll around much. The second SSJ is pretty difficult, try to move forward and to the left after you get the jump.
I think I spent more time doing timing/testing than I did on actual attempts in this segment. Worth it though, ended up coming up with a new route for east Elysia; it's far more interesting, and I timed it as being 20 seconds faster. Basically, climbing Chozo Observatory and proceeding to Turbine Chamber taking the top route instead of going down and taking the bottom route. Also decided not to do the SSJ up the elevator at the beginning, since it's somewhat difficult and I don't think it even saves time (door's loading). Saved at 1:13, compared to craztad's 1:26 which puts me 13 minutes ahead now. I'm guaranteed sub-2:20 now if I keep going at his pace, so hopefully I'll be getting somewhere around 2:10.
holy mother of perl. if i were a girl segment 18 would make me wet. i love it love it love it even more than the last segment. keep up the awesomeness man.
I'm pretty certain the floor is just from the locks, as that happened when I made the completionist route to fight the berserker. The fight did trigger, however, so now that I think of it, the locks don't trigger the fight. It must be ship grapple then.
Yeah, just tried it. Ship grapple triggers a major state change in Turbine Chamber apparently. It makes it possible for the floor on the upper level to load, activates the spinners, makes the fight trigger appear, and destroys the locks on the lower level.
I really liked how you went from one morph ball hole to the other while falling down. Very nice segments lately Paraxade, keep it up! I'm very interested to see how low you can bring the total time :)
How did you kill the steamlord with hyperball? I'm doing a hypermode low% speedrun, and it'd be a great timesaver.
It all happens too quickly. It it just a matter of electrifying two bots at once, killing them to make the lord appear and draining his health with hyperball, or do you have to spring up and pull him out of his cloaked state?
I'm referring to Paraxade's run-in-progress.
How the hell do you find stuff like this that no one else knows about?
It's tough, you need to avoid targeting the robots. The trick is that hyperball can damage it even when he's invisible. I highly doubt it's doable in a hyper low% run, though. Also I posted that trick way back in around September 07 so it's hardly something no one else knew about.

Is that first foothold in Chozo Observatory only there the first time you go through the room? I have a near in time save (same one as the end of your segment 12 for playing with TC) but cannot stand on anything near that MB tunnel.
Now that you've avoided the elevator which needs fixed and Gearworks, does anything interesting happen going through those rooms backwards? Perhaps a SW where the broken elevator is?

It's a bit tough but I don't know if it's exclusive to early on in the game; I haven't tried doing it with a later file. I found it practicing the room before I did that segment.

Haven't looked, but I doubt it. You'd probably just fall through the elevator shaft and be back at the bottom.
