When I try to do the murder beam, after leaving the samus screen main part of the game screen goes black and I can hear sounds and stuff but I cant hit start or do anything so the game's essentially locked up. Did I do something wrong?

(this is on the wii by the way)
Actually I just found my mistake was releasing the fire button on the pause screen. (Then after finally getting it right, i accidentally fired the arm cannon again before unequipping one of the beams.)

Edit- When I use it at mother brain, it works, but I don't see the glowing ball or the flickering ugliness. She does seem to be occaisonally taking damage from nothing, but not nearly at the rate of the video on 2k2.

It depends on where you release the murder beam. Doing it against Mother Brain's head before she rises up is the ideal place, and that does create the glowy ball. As for flickeriness, I would guess (probably incorrectly) that the Wii emulator can handle a larger number of simultaneous on-screen sprites.

Actually it emulates the SNES's slowness flawlessly ;) Got it right and it looks exactly like the video ;) In fact the supersize metroid larva and myself were mostly invisible the whole time ;)

I usually charge up then jump and pause, "select" the (var.) beam, return to the game, then release it in mid-air.  No particular reason, just to do something different - I guess.  Most of Mother Brain stays visible, except for a horizontal area that is occupied by the murder beam.  There was one time I released more than one.  I think the Murder Beam effect was on/off at random times, but Samus and (later) the metroid were visible.  Perhaps with so much info on screen - the game disregarded the "murder beams"...?  :|  ...I dunno.

The last time I tried to duplicate what had happened I goofed up somewhere causing the game to freeze.
