I guess I just really like smilies. It's something I like to use when I post messages. Smilies are usually based on my feelings.

I've been watching your run, RS. Exceptional stuff. Though the one thing that blows my mind is that jump-through-floor trick you used to get to the Spring Ball, since you didn't have the Grappling beam. Just how the heck did you do that?

It's not complicated to do now, once I got the timing right.

All it is is freezing that blob at just the right time so it is the correct height, then jumping onto it, ducking, and then hitting jump to jump through the ceiling.

Yeah that was cool... As well as the spike jump trick. That really impressed me...

Your run was pretty different (loved the Wrecked ship before Norfair and 90% of Maridia without the Grapple Beam)

First time I see Phantoon fought like that (still don't get it) or Botwoon die so flippin' fast, and the Crocomire fight was odd... How'd you pull that off?

I still don't like the Murder Beam thing speed runners do at Mother Brain... I find it ruins the capture

Wow, I just watched that whole run, that was amazing! That's a great route, and it's funny, because the last run I watched (58 minutes) used the more traditional route that I use and was improving on... I guess now to be with the best I have to learn this game all over again, again!

Not sure..the old route might be better.

Really, it's hard to say which one is better.  After watching Smokey's :56 using the traditional route, I'm pretty sure that it's possible to get a :55, at least.  He used no spike jumps (I'm not sure how much these speed things up, though.  My suspicion is tons before space jump, but not as much afterwards) and didn't do the no grapple spring ball trick, either, but still ended up with a very solid run.

Scarlet's route completely blew me away.  After watching all these traditional 100% runs, it was interesting to watch.  I can't say I would have thought to try that route on my own, but after watching the video, I'm going to have to give it a try though, just to try something new.

I'd say if you're working on a speed run, use whichever route you feel more confident in doing.  Scarlet's has more tricks to work on, while the traditional route is a bit easier to pull off (not to say that to get a sub 1-hour run with either is particularly easy, though).

The reason that the new route wasn't used prior to 0:55 was because of the Spring Ball. Backtracking to obtain it takes forever and grabbing it the first time through was impossible without Grapple Beam... er, that is before the freezing thing :P. I personally feel that the new route is faster since there's no backtrack to Crocomire.

Not to mention how much faster that fight goes with plasma.  Yeah, I feel that it's probably faster, and that we're just about at the limit for the traditional route, but it's still an effective route to take, unless you're extremely good at all the tricks for the new one.

Had he done the same boss tricks, spike jumps, mockballs, and gotten the Spring Ball the same way, I think a :54 the old way can be gotten by someone.

And it seems a :54 is about what you'll get with my route that I took.

The trick is to surround yourself with enough fans so that when people throw stones, they hit your fans instead.  :D
