My first normal run was under 4 hours with about 47& completion. Then I continued that file to get my first 100%..Ended up with the time 6:57:03..Mostly because of those norfair missiles..
And a very good practice run you have..I was going for the 100% but Im not sure is it possible(last save point bottom left),but at least I got this on my 4th playthrough.. Some improvement,I guess..
What do you mean not sure it's possible? You can be saved right before mecha ridley and still be able to collect 100%. Unless you mean within a certain tim.e. Anyway, I'm at the end of a 15% run. Just gotta get that bit with the 2 black pirates right, and I'll be clear. Mecha Ridley I can handle.
Certain time...I`m also doing 15% but on normal..srew attack, high jump boots,2x energy tank,2 supers..Motherbrain was a pain:I falled into acid constantly..So I had to roll back one screen to refill constantly, most os time losing more then gaining..But after about half hour..I won..on the Mecha Ridley..Well about 200 deaths(laser, missiles and claw combo..argh)I had enough..He`s totally random..No pattern..
I'm surprised you opted for the hi-jump boots. I generally suggest four supers, SA, and an etank.
Also, some updates from my test run through hard mode: Save before HBJ - 4:57 Norfair Entrance - 8:58 Before Ridley fight - 15:00 (I think) Start of Tourian - 19:22 (...really? Only 22 seconds behind AJ? Is SA that long a detour?)
I actually skipped a couple quick missile tanks just out of error in judgement, but I got 2 others that AJ skipped, so I have the same amount of missiles as AJ did in his :34. SA isn't that big a deal IMO, and I think it actually shouldn't be too hard to get a good Tourian. The trick is to never have more than 2 super missiles, and of course try not to get hit, but that's kind of the tough part. ;>_> Strategic positioning and timing can help to enable you to avoid rinkas and freeze metroids as soon as they appear, or using frozen metroids as shields to protect against other metroids. On the last metroid room, if I have any supers left, I use them first, then change back to regulars. Considering there are...I think 8 metroids, you're pretty likely to get a couple super refills. If not, it's not even that big a deal, you still at least have a chance to refill in Apple Jack Hall.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I actually managed to beat the game earlier tonight finally. I kept rushing through pretending I'm not gonna die on the next hit, and I kept dying. This time, I reached Iron Ted at 19 health, 5 missiles, and 5 supers. I missed one regular, so I had to farm for another, then I kept missing using my supers for some reason. @_@ It basically felt like a 10% run all over again, but he only had half his health left, so I still finished him off. Final time came out to 40:14. Note: My Tourian section had been very unlucky. ;>_>
Well,I quess it was on the 15% guide from gamefaqs that opted me to choice hi-jump boots..Well Im waaayyyy below yor skill level..I havent even completed hard 100 under 2 hours yet..And bomb jumping is still hard for me..I have watched how to do it,read about it..But I just cant get to rhytm(background music disturbes me)it`s alot harder and faster compared to super metroid..Had trouble in that too.And my last save point time is 02:06:48 I have been playing this about a week..And really havent slept much..Metroids I dealt with ease..MotherBrain was the real problem..
Hmm...Seems like getting refills from Mecha for supers is rare and the battle always ends to my death..It hits me at the close range same time with claw and beam down or up so I cant duck to avoid the claw+missile..All those at same time..It would require a tremendous luck to defeat him..I quess I should start again...I think you`reright about taking four supers...
When he shoots laser down during claw swipe+missiles..Then the laser hits,Samus bounces from the impact straight to the claw..Not to mention missile. All three! You get hit at that combo..No matter what..
Try staying on the ground so that he shoots the laser diagonally down every time. That angle is easy to avoid by jumping vertically. There's still a bunch of other things that can go wrong, especially with the missiles coming towards you, but I think it's the best bet.
He shoots the lasers at a random angle, actually. My last fight against him, he only shot at the ground 2 times.
Still though, best bet is to crouch in the corner so his slash can't get you, and keep him close so you can just morph under the lasers. The triple threat is pretty tough to avoid though. If he's close, you can just fire diagonally to take out his missiles, but if he's far, you have to aim straight ahead to hit some.
...Actually hey, you have SA, don't you? Doesn't SAing in the corner help? I don't remember.
Also I just got mediocre luck in Tourian and finished at 36:36. Getting closer. :^D
Well SAing helps against the missiles..Most of time(I have get hit by missiles, usually one of three occasinally),but tat that moment claw swipe or laser..Or both..I m going to try 100% under 1:50..My problem for that run is those opposite side bottom Ridley map missiles..If there`s still time to backtrack them..I wonder...
The speed boost + jump one is a beast regardless of your equipment (might differ for high jump, not sure), that's the one I had the most problem getting, usually.
Frankly, most of my skill comes from perseverance. If I recall correctly, it took me several runthroughs to get under 2 hours 100%. These days I mostly do any% runs, as I've practiced them hundreds of times. I died to Ridley at least 20 times just since I started this current test-run.
Well..I have watched speedruns, but trying to copycat them?No..Out of my skill level.I have to find an easier approach. In 100% run I always mess up with that missile puzzle in Ridleys down-right map..Or down-left upper missile..I had to use save state on Ridley..I got pissed of running to the boss door and getting mystery item..So I saved at the beginning of the fight..Still I died about 40 times at least..even though I tried to stay under it`s feet..At one point I was so panic that I just stayed under there about maybe an half hour..I was afraid that I shoot at wrong moment..Ridley was bouncing back and forth, and my eyes up and downAnd I still got killedAfter few tries I managed to finally beat him
Lurked M2K2 forever now, first time posting. I'm no ajbolt or spidy-widey but I have gotten my 100% time down to 1:11 (normal difficulty). Now if only I had a video capture device..
I have found a pattern to mecha ridley 15%. It really is predictable as anything. For the first bit, he will shoot fireballs if you have a certain amount of missiles left, and missiles if you have less. Then he will likely swipe, which can easily be dodged by ducking down or going over it. Once his glass breaks, he will shoot lasers, which are predictable depending on where his head is positioned, and launch more missiles. Just nail him till he dies. Easy as cake. The thing that gets me is the two black pirates at the end... X.X I temporarily gave up on my 15% run, as I can go back and redo the entire thing with ease. Note that this will be slightly less accurate on an emulator, as the AI may be off. But that's generally what he does.
I always get High Jump, Screw attack, 2 missile tanks, 2 E-tanks, no supers or power bombs. Works fine for me.
I think my 100% time is 1:16? It's posted somewhere in this thread. Those two missiles in the lower right part of Ridley are definitely major time-eaters during the item clean-up. It is possible to get them the first time you are in Ridley's lair, but it's not easy. I never got good enough at doing it to try it in my runs.
Whenever I go down to Ridley, I get every item in the area so I don't have to backtrack later on when you have your fully powered suit. It really saves on the time and would make it easier to focus on other items missing. Although for low item runs, those 2 Black Space Pirates are hard to get by, as I have trouble with them even when I have many energy tanks as I now almost exclusively play MZM on Hard.
