Basically what Hitaka posted. LOTS of rolling and shinesparks. I agree about the crane room in Sector 3 btw.

About my clean-up routes.
Sector 2: Pretty straight foward. I grabbed the missile in the water w/o gravity to save time. Started with butterfly when you exit Gravity rooms. Worked my way up north and so on. Took elevator and killed second butterfly. On to Sector 3.
Sector 3: Started off with butterfly in the room where you save Anthony. Backtracked to the Ridley morph ball shoot and then worked my way to the second butterfly. I'm not sure if it's been posted but in the north/south room with the exhaust things that shoot fire, it's possible to get shinespark back up and grab the missile where the door bug happens. After that, finish clean up and go take the 4 grapples in the big lava room to the north side. Grab second grapple towards Ridley and take the morph ball shoot again.
Sector 1: I posted my route on page 10. Everything went well. I'll give your route a go through Hitaka btw.

Sub 4:50 should be within grasp. Sub 4:40 MAY be a bit ambitious but I'm not ruling it out. I know I'm not the best player. Phantoon is a joke with all upgrades. Took me about 2:15 to take him out. All other bosses were smooth. Nightmare 1/2 I take out near the doors with optimal boss patterns. I managed 2 lethal strikes on Ridley. Seeker missile bosses all managed to get a lethal strike on. Metroid Queen could've been better. I missed 2 seeker missiles in her second phase but I took it cause her first phase went really well. Escape time wasn't the best. I think it was around 2:30 or 2:29. I can't remember. I used logitech's Generator Room trick in Sector 2 but not the platform trick. I also didn't use Paraxade's bomb shortcuts. Pretty tricky stuff!

Hahaha! I think I'm of the minority who actually like this game. I could seriously play it all day and not get bored!

Ditto. My little brother is aghast at how many times I've beaten the game since I bought it, and every time I finish one playthrough, I start another.

I've only beaten the game 5 times now, 4 of them through the second boss on normal, the other on hard. I'm debating on whether or not to try a true 100% run the next time I get back to it, but I've always been terrible at those so I don't know if I'd enjoy doing it.

I don't know how many times I've played through it. It took me many runs to get that sub 5 which I wanted so bad. I do the same thing Zeke. I need to actually start a hard mode play through. I'm just obsessed with 100% speed runs so I had to get that out of the way first. I can see how people misunderstand the game, but it's sole purpose is entertainment. And let me tell you, it does just that.

i've beaten the game 4 times so far but haven't played since like 2 weeks. mp2 effectively pulled me away completely and i'm now looking into improving my mp1 time before playing other m again.

I also like the game a lot and am on a Hard Mode game. I can't remember where I saw players talk about a deathless run... I don't know if they mean to put together a series of segments with no deaths or actually playing continuous without dying. Anything is possible as many players have shown with outstanding skills in the Prime games; including moves and game times that were thought not possible. That said, I confess that I suck at the Metroid games but I can't imagine anyone getting through Other M without dying many times. As hard as I think MP2 still is (on Hard Mode) it doesn't compare with how difficult this game is.

I posted a comment elsewhere as I had just started the Hard run and was surprised at the lack of pickups
apparently 99/10 is all you get
... now I am in the beginnings of Sector 2 and have died at least 100 times so far with about 25 of them fighting the Zebesians in the Exam Center. I was so close many times but got zapped while in Concentration (may be the most frustrating aspect of the game). I'm dreading the fight against that shellfish thing that Samus has to protect Anthony from. In all honesty, I'll be shocked if I get really far in the game (let alone beat it).

I was the one who talked about beating Hard Mode deathless (segment or SS doesn't matter as long as it's the same save), in a vain hope that it would unlock another part to the game.

You have my 100% support (I know that means nothing) to make it happen and I will gladly watch the run(s) if posted. Based on a few weeks of play (and I'll just assume you are a much better gamer than I) can you even guess at the number of times you'll die in a game?

I don't recall at the moment seeing your name in the Prime forums and I base my initial post on the fact that it took Zoid, Kip, Bartender, DJ and many others year(s) to reach levels of play that one has to watch to believe.

I hope you try and are successful and it would be neat if another facet of the game existed.

I don't have recording software or cables, and I pick up on dodge times really quickly based on videos etc.

I'm better at Other M than I ever was at the GCN Primes. (I also wasn't around during the Prime boom)

Same here.  The plus side for me is that there aren't a ton of tricks you have to learn to be able to beat the game fast/easily.  I still have my issues getting SJB early in Prime -_-'

I'm reworking a couple of things at the moment:
- My Escape Run route for a possible 2:37-2:38 run
- My pre-post game 100% item route

EDIT:  Yup, I think I have a faster Escape Run route now.

It's really just about learning to dodge and knowing the encounters - after which the game becomes disappointingly simple. If you're having trouble, you could always copy this:

It's pretty much identical to Hard mode, just replace the riskier speed approaches with more SenseMove spam and take your time. Some people seem to have trouble with Ridley's tail stabs (which he didn't use in this run), but as with everything else, just SenseMove spam away from him and he won't hit you.

If you know where you're scan point is you can immediately hit B and it'll recognize it, saving you a couple of seconds.

first off-- my comments about the Prime games are not really meant to compare as the games are very different, and I agree on the tricks comment (sometimes I get the early jump boots on the first try and other times it takes 10 tries).

With respect to Other M, getting to see patterns, etc is a bit frustrating. I am currently in Sector 2 trying to defeat the swiss army knife utility vehicle. I laugh at how quickly I die and sometimes I'm not even sure why I get it so quickly. I've managed to blast off one arm but again, the concentration aspect of this game can be so frustrating as there seems to be almost never a good time to do it without getting killed.

As for the video (by Serris)... it looks like you have the Sensemove down. I find that I have improved on this but obviously need more practice. Thanks for posting it.

Scan point... I'll try to think about this at the start of a battle.

Be sure to RECORD IT THIS TIME!

You're the one who's set the record and breaks the record, you're probably going to be the only one who'll attempt to beat any time you set!

Well I was mainly practicing last time.  I didn't break the record for that run anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.  I'll probably try recording later tonight if I have the time/can get it setup.

EDIT:  Oh, and the time for that practice run was something like 2:36:03.

I think the fastest time I've gotten on that after four attempts (since I've only completed the game fully that many times) is something like 2:19:xx, so there's got to be something I'm doing wrong if you can get almost 20 seconds on me.

It would be nice to see it, at least, even if most of us probably won't get close enough to that record.

Well, I posted that video a couple pages back if you want some hints (Which is, as of now to my knowledge, the record).  It's mainly about just hoofing it and not worrying about enemies, keeping jumping to a minimum, and keeping a charge ready for the 3 gates you'll need to shoot.

I've done the run about 30 times or so, mainly because it's fun, but I've slowed down the amount of attempts I've done over the past 2 weeks.  Last night I actually saw the scene where you run out of time on that segment, which was nice.

There's an extra scene if you fail? I'll have to give it a shot.

So long as it doesn't end with "Time Paradox. Samus Died."

I can't seem to find it on YouTube.  Is it anything special, or is it just the bottle ship exploding without the Gunship zooming off into space?

No, it basically just shows a couple of flashback scenes, then it going boom.  It's pretty different, but nothing "OMG!"

No, it does not create a time paradox.

Ok. Second run through the game, got 26% items, and my time was 5:21:59 at the pre phantoon save station(I was going for speed). Phantoon fight went well, evacuation was a breeze. Not bad, I guess. Next, I'm going to go for a 100% run I suppose. I've never actually managed a 100% run though.
