Just reset after you return to the ship. No idea when the save occurs.

So a couple of cut scenes after the credits roll?  When she goes back.  how about this,  are you standing in control when you reset, or do you reset during a cut scene?  Sorry for being stupid about this.  I think I added time to my run because I reset later than I should have.  Thanks for your patience.

I reset after regaining control of Samus for the endgame after the credits. The save to the file occurs somewhere between shooting MB and regaining control.

OK. Thanks. That is what I did, as long as I understand you correctly.  On a side note,  Holy shit! Do you have a video recording of your run? You were 30 mins faster than me and I ran straight through it and skipped 90% of the enemies, and killed the bosses very quickly. (at least I thought I did)

No, I didn't record it. As for why I'm faster, travel in Morph Ball form where possible, take a look at the Enemy Strategies thread and don't kill anything optional. My run was still littered with small mistakes and I didn't use any known speed tricks other than skipping the first wall jumping pillar. Perfect execution could maybe shave another 5-15 minutes off, hard to tell really.

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't do the wall jumping pillar, now that you mention it, I did spend a few minutes trying to shine-spark it.  As traveling, I definitely was in morph most of the time.  You are probably better at executions than me.

Start recording them fool, you'll have records on vid then, and if no one can beat it, may as well submit to SDA. (Why not? simple runs can be put in SDA without any breaks)

I'll see what I can do then.  I've never actually captured video before.

Although I don't think it'd be accepted if everything went the same.

Very nice.  I'm currently in the process of getting a capture card, so I'll see if I can try and start recording stuff next week.

Do we know for sure yet whether continuing after death adds to your time?

I am 90% sure that deaths count towards your overall time.  But I'll get to Sector 3 again and try it out really fast.

I don't know. I died a few times to that first Giraffe Tree and my time upon entering Sector 3 is sitting at 1:19:43 in my newest run. (I have gone to the menu to restart segments a few times though, but those deaths are still part of my actual run.)

Third playthrough: 4:03:45 h  14 %  (saved at the ship after the credits)

It's a pity I didn't make it sub 4 hours, but still okay. I wouldn't view it as a real speedrun - I used two of the speedtricks found here and restarted some segmnets, where I lost too much time but it still needs a lots of polishing.
Next time I'm definitely going for sub 4 hours getting less items and using the morph ball travelling more often. But for now I lost my interest in playing this game for the next months, I guess.

Finished my first 3% run:

04:02:34 at ship, 04:24:54 before ending. This all but confirms that deaths don't add to your time, since I got stuck for nearly 20 minutes or more on Phantoon before I got him.

First time poster! I've been following the site for a while now though. Nice to meet your community!

I just finished my 3rd play through (all of which were 100%) SS 5:56:40 100%

4:08:58 30% through second ending. I picked up more crap than I needed. The most missiles I ever needed at once without being able to Concentration was 25 to kill Nightmare 2 in one round, before he summons a black hole. The question is, is it worth picking up 15 missiles to get a one-round kill in that fight? I refuse to get sick of this game until I get sub-4.

I got him my last time through with just 11 missiles before he turned on the Black Hole, so if you're fast enough with concentration I don't think it matters how many missiles you have in the end.

Alright, got my capture card and did some escape sequence runs.  The lower resolution (I usually play at 480p) makes a big difference for load times here, at least 2 seconds.  I didn't do any editing/formatting either, so...yeah, that's why there's some issues at the start of it.

The time at the end of the video:  2:36:69!

After looking at it, it might be like 2:36:65 or something like that.

4:43:57, 26%.  Now that's more like it!

Good to know that deaths don't count -- not because I die much anymore, but because killing yourself off is a lot faster than resetting the game.

Normal Mode 12:41:29, 100% (finally did it)

I think I'm going to either stick to any% or Hard Modes from now on. 100%ing the game was not fun.

Maybe now that you know where all the items are, it won't be as frustrating.
