Someone asked me for a bit of help with Phantoon, and I dug around and played with some numbers. I found it's not too difficult to kill Phantoon in 3 turns:
Turn 1: Charged Wave/Spazer (210), 2 x Charged Spazer (240), Charged Ice/Wave Spazer (300)
Turn 2: Charged Wave/Spazer (210), 2 x Charged Spazer (240), Charged Ice/Wave Spazer (300)
Turn 3: 2 x Charged Wave/Spazer (420) Super Missile (600)
Total: 2520 damage

If you're good with handling the pausing, you can do this instead:
Turn 1: Charged Wave/Spazer (210), Charged Spazer (120), Charged Wave (150), Charged Ice/Wave Spazer (300)
Turn 2: 2 x Charged Wave/Spazer (420), Charged Ice/Wave Spazer (300)
Turn 3: 2 x Charged Wave/Spazer (420) Super Missile (600)
Total: 2520

I tested both against Phantoon. They work, but it's kind of tricky to pull off 4 charged shots while changing beams at the same time before Phantoon disappears. It would save some seconds against Phantoon, though.

I don't remember what my 3 turn Phantoon fight had..I think it was missiles for a couple hits, though.

Turn 1:  Charged Ice/Wave (2), Charged Ice/Wave/Spazer
Turn 2:  Pseudo-Screw (using Charged Ice/Wave, if that matters), Charged Ice/Wave, 1 missile, Charged Ice/Wave/Spazer
Turn 3:  Charged Ice/Wave (2), 1 missile, 1 super missile

Good thing I always forget to delete stuff from my Recycle Bin.  Rolling Eyes

Doh. >_<
I don't keep track of much speed-run stuff, so the best I could remember was simply using charged Wave/Spazer the whole fight for four rounds.

I know I watched a 14 or 15%..think it was yours (go Mother Brain taking a bazillion shots of regular charge beam).

It's 300 charged shots. That number is burned into my mind. >_>

Are there any 14% or 15% vids out there that don't require rom/emulator to view?  I've always wanted to see one.

i can simply convert one to divx if there's enough interest. also, kip's is partially done if you'd be interested in seeing that. you'd need permission directly from him, though, of course.

You know...even after hearing an explanation on watching a movie on the EMU I still can't do it...it just starts up and is stuck in a screen shot with the music for the room playing...

Anyone see the way Terimakasih did it in his :27?

Weird.  He shot his eye when it was closed JUST as he was about to release the fireballs, and then loaded it with super missles.

But of course, he did it in slow motion, and save states with the premonition of exactly when he was gonna do it.

Multiple Super Missiles?  Is that possible?  My understanding was that you can only use one for the final hit, because if a Super Missile doesn't kill him, it sends him into pissed-off mode (invincible on the ceiling throwing waves of fireballs) and wastes all kinds of time.

I actually got the idea of using a Super Missile for the last hit myself, and was pretty pleased about it... until I read this thread, where I found out that not only did Kejardon and Scarlet already know, but I had watched Scarlet do it and not even noticed.  A testament to how fast she switches weapons, I guess.

Just 3 single Hyper Beam shots works fine... :D

I kinda messed around with AR codes on a EMU; it killed Crocomire with one shot! Shocked

If a poll had existed, I hadn't had to post to say that I was interested.

Just watched what Terimakasih did. He only used a single super missile at the end to kill Phantoon, no others. He got off about 8 missiles at a time, though. Normally, Phantoon would close his eye after 5, but Terimakasih kept hitting Phantoon before the AI could progress and close the eye. To do this, he moved forward so the missiles would take less time to reach Phantoon (Hey, it's the doppler effect! XD).
If conditions are right, though, it *might* be possible to kill Phantoon in one go like this. Although you'd need to have perfect timing. >_>

Heheh.  Doppler effect.  Like the physicist's excuse for running a red light, right?  He was approaching it, so it looked green....

Pfft, so does the Plasma Beam -- and you don't need cheat codes to use that on him.  Just reasonably good shinesparking and/or bomb-jumping skills.

Nah, it was more fun with Hyper, with those codes, i just could go kill all the bosses at once and make a "speed run" (?) in a very short time. But then, at Mother Brain, she always kill me, but w/o AR, she wouldn't! Explanation?

EDIT: That was a bit messy... I hope you'll understand it... >_>

Do you mean, MB's scripted beam wouldn't stop killing you, and you died?

Sumptin' like that; Sometimes i was killed by her beam, and sometimes by the other attacks when you're 'kneeled'...

Yeah, I've done that too.  It's fun, though the novelty wears off pretty quick, especially when you've already done similar stuff with the space-time beam.

why does the plasma beam kill crocomire in one hit?
