Shorter fuse, I should have said.  It just struck me in the last week or so that your posts seem to have been more irascible and hot-tempered than before.  I tend to be like that myself (though I try to restrain it) and I understand the irritation.  However, as you say, I might also have been asleep the last six months; I don't read all the posts here, for one thing.  I don't share the same sense of equivalency of words that you do; even if different phrases are used to convey the same emotions, they're definitely different in their intensity and the connotations of the words to me.

Nate, I see where you're coming from; I just don't think most people (in general, not here specifically) use it that strongly.  For what it's worth, I first heard it used in a gaming context when people referred to raping the bar in DDR, meaning hanging onto the bar while doing some fast song.

the fact is, girls see rape different than boys do. boys see it as wrong, but something that can be joked about - girls see it as a mortal sin. having known several people that have been raped, one being my ex-girlfriend, i quite understand why you react the way you do.

that said, the comment still stands - people do not use rape in its literal sense. you could say it has two definitions - 1. to force sexual intercourse and 2. to violate/abuse. i personally don't use the word "rape" when it comes to emulated runs, both because it seems a little too dramatic to me and because there are far worse things in the world than a couple of geeks with a rerecord button and a case of obsessive compulsive disorder. many people on this forum (and others) overreact to such things, try to find the best way to degrade them, and bust out the r word.

And you're the poser jock who makes people feel like gunship for no reason whatsoever.  Also, just for clarification, I'm sure lots more people like Spine Shark than like you.

This has nothing to do with anything I was saying. Generalizing my character does not invalidate what he was doing.

Rest of the stuff

I agree.

They're only different because people think they're different. Of couse, I personally think saying "fuck you" is worse than saying "you suck", but that was how I was raised. The words themselves are not to blame; the context and association is.

Then why do it to Spine Shark?  Sorry, but I see pointless gratuitous unkindness too much, and it really pisses me off.

I think that a lot of guys don't think of the first meaning as anything important.  For them it's just like, "so?" and it just turns into some kind of sick joke.  It bothers me too that "rape" and "gay" have turned into generic, pretty much meaningless slang.  It's kind of the wrong place to be trying to argue with this stuff though-it's all those OTHER people who don't get it.

I don't know what else to say.  I feel stupid about what I did, but I'm not sorry.  There's nothing more retarded than two people arguing on the internet about how much they don't like each other.

You all take this crap too seriously. Most of what you're bitching about, such as rape (in terms of emu-rape) and Spine Sharking are used jokingly in most cases. Just let it go. Whining about it won't change anything.

Whining about the whining will only make it worse. :>

I didn't mean to generalize. I meant his action there was the annoying kid, and for that misunderstanding I'm sorry. It was intended at his action, not his character.

I never said I don't like you. Take it how you will.
