I know that typically a "spiritual sequel" is produced by the same development team, but there were too many similarities between these two games.

- Badass female protagonist
- Cybernetic armor suit
- Mercenary/bounty hunter
- Beam as primary weapon
- Player is alone in game environment
- Minimal voice acting

My dad even noted out that from the sound effects, he couldn't tell whether or not I was playing P.N.03 or Metroid.  Anyone else notice these similarities as well, or is it just my imagination?

Yes it is.  I think it's pretty awesome, but most game critics would disagree.  Also I forgot to mention that both of their parents' were killed in an attack by the game's main antagonists.

Yeah, it's a pretty damn good buy if you ask me.  Apparently it was practically farted out by one of the main developers at Capcom due to a delayed development schedule for Viewtiful Joe.  Even still, it's a pretty fun game.

Being vaguely similar in certain game mechanics does not make for a "spiritual sequel".

Using that list as a base line, literally every fps is a spiritual sequel to Doom.

So the protagonist being hired to eradicate a certain type of enemy that killed their parents earlier on is "vaguely familiar"?

Am I really crazy for finding those two game uncannily familiar?  And for the record, what exactly is the definition of "spiritual sequel"?

Cybernetic Armor, being a hired gun, playing solo, and using beam weapons is not uncannily similar, it's being a video game.

I known it's hip and trendy to treat everyone like they're retarded, but c'mon.  Gimme a break here.

Apparently this was a better Metroid game than Other M then?

The game sounds appealing, so how come I haven't heard of it before?  What's wrong with it?  Do the controls suck?

It has to be.  Other M is to Metroid as CD-I is to Zelda.

it's one of the infamous "capcom 5" gamecube games that a lot of sites/magazines were cumming over but it sort of got overshadowed by the three other ones released (re4, viewtiful joe, killer7) since its reviews weren't so hot. think it was mostly because of the controls but i can't remember ... i do recall wanting to play it though.

I thought the controls were just fine.  It had the same "A to shoot, B to jump" thing that Prime had, and from what I can remember that was one of the more popular complaints about Prime (at least from the more traditional shooter fans).  The only problem I can think of is that the levels get just a wee bit repetitive.

the game doesn't sounds much like prime to me, more like something inspired by arcade games. the games reminds me of silent bomber.

think i'll try getting it sometime too.

A spiritual sequel is, usually, a game that could or even should be considered the proper sequel to a previous game due to the development team expanding on specific mechanics, themes, or plot elements that stood out in said previous game, but is in fact not a part of that game's universe. It usually happens when a development team looses control of their license for one reason or another but still wants to use the good ideas they had for a sequel. Good examples include Xenosaga to Xenogears, or Bioshock to System Shock 2.

P.N. 03 doesn't even come close to being loosely defined as a spirtual successor to any Metroid game.

Yeah, maybe I wasn't so sure on what a spiritual sequel really was.  Anyway I thought there were just a few uncanny similarities.  Good game though.
