Thanks, I agree with this idea of TASing.  In my opinion, some games aren't too entertaining for a TAS if all they offer is the console speedrun's idea, just with more precision.

Yeah, totally.  Since the tools allow you to do pretty much anything that is possible in the game engine, it's not enough to simply beat the game imo.  There's no real "struggle" to beat the game that fast, so that aspect really isn't there.  It becomes the challenge of the taser to make the run enjoyable to watch in other ways.  Which this delivered in spades.

in the name of justice!
i've watched a small amount of this run.  thank you for making yet another run that makes me want to go back and play metroid 3 yet again (this being like the third time).  i cut it off early as i ran out of time to watch, but also, i need to go find about 25 items on my own anyway.

my favorite thing in tas is the non-stop motion.  there's something extremely disorienting about it to me.  super metroid is of course fantastic for this :)

my least favorite thing is, unfortunately, boss fights.  i almost always find myself bored, no matter how short they are...something about "hit the boss as fast as you can/it will take damage" just isn't as fun to me.  i realize it's a necessity when you're trying to beat the game as fast as possible.  it's just that i have a preference for other aspects of the runs.

What's the over/under frame space for getting it right? Is it only the frame where the foot hits the ground, or is there some leeway?

I just did a short test to prove Kejardon's advice about pressing dash button around the time Samus puts her front foot on the ground, and it definitely worked! After a short training, I was able to consistently cut 3 to 5 tiles from the distance usually needed to charge a spark without any serious effort.

I think that with proper training, any experienced runner could do it from the first attempt in their actual runs. I even think cutting 6 tiles is possible on a console.

Thanks for that link, Mills.

Downloaded and watched the run.

Very impressive.  As I suspected, brimming full of amazing tricks and quick kill strategies.  I liked the way the short charge was used/abused, and the "speedballing" was also quite fun to watch.

Congrats on a very nice run, JXQ.

Is this a permanent mirror?  If so, would it be ok if I added this as a mirror on Nesvideos? (I've noticed other Metroid runs there have your site as a mirror, but I want to make sure before I just start throwing links around)

Thanks!

I took the <strike>quotation marks</strike> italicized text as referring to the fact that the <strike>:39</strike> truthfulness is not <strike>a real time</strike> factually true. It has been <strike>tool-assisted</strike> based on individual viewpoints; therefore, it is <strike>a "time"</strike> trueWink

Yes, it's a permanent mirror, so feel free to put it up on Nesvideos. In fact, could you get Biskwit to change the current TAS mirror links to the path:

http://www.supermetroid.co.uk/speed_runs/tas/

instead of the zeromission.co.uk domain. The supermetroid server is simply much faster and more reliable. :D

Thanks.
