My name is 4N6/Forensics.
I'll be posting an interesting .smv file later. Snuffit86 figured it out how it works I wonder if anyone else will. Its what the TASer's do on the way to the Ice Beam where they don't break the Speed Booster Blocks. Its not really useful but, its pretty fucking cool. I mean you can Bounce ball all the way across like they do but, it is ridiculously hard to time your jump through the door transition.

Man it's so easy to dodge ledges when falling with backdown + unmorphing. I can't believe I wasn't doing this before. It makes everything look so smooth!

Quote from Behemoth:
Well I just did a real time NTSC 100% TAS using nearly everything we've learned. I got 44:40. My PAL run was 48:12 which included a torizo skip. Both runs are pretty much identical throughout but using their unique best tricks in respective areas. There were a few areas in the NTSC one which weren't exactly as according to plan like the robot room outside gravity suit and one of the metroids rooms couldn't be dealt with the same as PAL, making it slower. I think therefore the NTSC time should have been about 44:30, which would mean the real difference between PAL and NTSC for 100% is 4 minutes. Less if you include the torizo skip for PAL. So the fact that I'm after 0:51 on PAL, leads me to say that an equivelent time for you guys is NOT 0:46, but more like a 0:47. LOL, I hope this eases the unesassary pressure you may have had. (I thought 0:46 seemed a bit way off)

LOL ironically i myself did a 100% NTSC TAS with almost exactly the same results. After seeing what I'm capable of I'm confident i can get a 47. A 46 is possible but very unlikely so my aim is a 47 so I'm gonna start recording SS runs in a couple of weeks. I don't know how long it's gonna take to get a quality run but I'm happy to say I'm really practiced and ready.

Quote from Behemoth:
Also I don't know if you know this but I feel stupid for not realising it till this day... well two things actually. one is regular bombs destroy mother brains grenades instantly with no ground covering explosion. It's certianly something put into the game to make things a bit more eventful than just shooting her to death. The other thing is after reset glitch go into the room opposite the crateria map data room where the missiles are and the chozo sitting there will emitt a searchlight from it's eye. The same ones you get when you pick up the morph ball. I feel stupid as hell for not knowing this. I may have done it ages ago and completely forgot about it.

I have to say bombing MB's bombs is defiantly new to me (interesting find). LOL holy shit I had forgot about that search light also (been so long).

Power bomb run saver: Thank u for that Behemoth, u just saved myself so much worry, lol u have no idea how much i appreciate this.

Quote from OptimoPeach:
Good luck on your guys' runs, by the way. I'll never be dedicated enough to attempt a record breaking run, but I think it's awesome that people are STILL taking this game apart and improving. The way you guys are finding ways to save even just half a second here or there is excellent.

Is it alright if I just post in this thread if I have any questions throughout my run? Kinda feel silly bumping my thread when there's only like five active people on this whole forum. My new SNES controller just got here, so I'm gonna start practicing tonight. I'm already having nightmares about the Tourian shaft

Thanks for the support man, it really did take an insane amount of dedication to finally get to the level of play we're at.

Feel free to post in this thread as much and ask as many questions as u please, it's cool to have u aboard. About the Hunter Shaft, just try not to over think it, and just try to be smooth and accurate even it feels like u could have been faster u wanna try to be smooth even it cost a second or two. Really, just practice religiously it will pay.

hehe don't mention it. I had only known about it for a few months. But I don't really like collecting from those green crabs anyway as they seem to drop large health too occassionally for me. Also it's maybe a little slower than the run saver smv. It's a good SS run saver for sure in the fact that you don't lose enough time to really piss you off.

I'd be interested to know what time you got for your 100% TAS?

I love you whores!
I got a 44.XX (dont have the rom hack). But i felt i could of got a 43.XX because i didn't play every room to my perfect, plus a slow Phantoon eye pattern the first round quick the second. Draygon was swooping on me so i figured fuck it and keep going. man i did kind of figure a 4min. difference between the two versions bcus fuck man i was thinking even after a good run a 46 has gotta be just so damn hard to get.

Shit you got 44:XX but you didn't have perfect boss fights. Fuck me I must have been really pedestrian in my run. Even though It felt like I was going near max speed. I even had over 5000 re records. I guess you used all the really hard tricks. I abandoned some of those because I think they are just a little too risky. Although they are possible.

Yea a 46 would be like a 50 for me and I tell you that is just silly. really it is lol

LOL pedestrian, i doubt that. i don't know what u mean about really hard tricks but as far as most the stuff we've all been posting I'm pretty consistent at. I also had maybe only 50 savestates i actually used (I've been practicing alot). But even with all the practice i still make mistakes and there will be resets (oh there will be resets) and tons of things that still give me headaches. i also have a few surprise tricks i'm gonna hit u guys with, some stuff i've been keeping to myself (not really big time savers those i would post). But just to say you'll be seeing some interesting climbs, unmorphs and enemy boosts

nice !
By hard tricks I mean like the speed ball in the water to grab the missiles outside wrecked ship. In actual fact I think that was the only trick I left out. I pretty much did all the rest. I didn't do the room optimisation that lxx4xNx6xxl had in mind for the attic room that doesn't use a shinespark when going left to kill all the creatures. Because It feels risky also and is down to how much supers you have left to sacrifice.

To be honest I'm shit on emulators so I just save it anywhere and eveyrwhere as long as I pull off what I expect myself to do and get the job done quicker. something like 450 saves I think I had.

oh yeah lakespeedball is incredibly hard and i did hit that one in 3 trys. for the attic i do what Reeve showed us with the unmorph under the Ki-Hunter (easier than u might think). as far as supers r concerned u can save 1 by freezing the orb in the room b4 the attic (like Hotarubi did in his 100%). i mean it's 1 more start menu but u do save a super.

oh yeah i completely understand. Plus ur the man when it comes to consistency on console (no doubt about that).

[edit] u know that bounceball u do in the WS b4 the energytank? well i found it is possible on NTSC only if u have speed echoes (and an extreme amount of luck). i just wanted to add that useless info as its not feasible on console. but another strat is. if u download the compilation of smv's i put together, you'll see a file in 1.52 called ReverseBounceSick.smv,  so check it out when u have time as i can do this trick like 90% of the time.

It's thing about emulators that they can give the illusion that your consistant at something but when you play console you don't have savestates. So to pull the trick off it's now or never situation. The lake speeball trick is maybe the only one I'm pointing at though. oh and the maridia mock ball in the northen part of maridia coming back from the missile and super together down the gap.

The attic room is harder for me due to sloppy ball mechanics on PAL making that kockback cancel (which is essential for the whole trick to work IIRC) unmorph on the ki hunter pretty darn hard.

Well lately my consistancy is terrible. I don't know what it is but I keep fucking up mundane things.

Nice yea that bounce ball can be done on NTSC but is so friggen hard. Pretty much impossible. 99% of the time you usually hit the ledge or mock ball accidently. Cool I'll download it.

[edit] that is a nice trick. The PAL bounce ball can do that distance but you have to be going slower with speed echoes but is not very consistant.

oh hell yeah i learned not to rely on them (savestates). console is definitely tougher without such a crutch. lakespeedball i' ll almost definitely miss, though i will have a good attempt. yea that maridia mockball is tough too, and don't expect to hit that either, but i do have to say i developed a good visual to when i have to jump so we'll see (hope is more like it).

lol i do know what u mean about sloppy ball mechanics as i've had more wtf moments morphing unmorphing on PAL.

take breaks. seriously it will keep ur hands and most of all ur mind fresh. i know when i don't play for 3-5 days i'm more motivated, focused and just feel like the games fresher and not as stagnant.

[edit] i dont always make it all the way over either but its still a few seconds faster than sparking.

Yep. One thing I hate and when I know I'm not producing results is because I'm frankly bored with playing the same thing over and over and over. starting ceres, crateria..... (fucking up old mother brain room lol). I don't play ridiculous amounts. Not like several hours a day, but I do pretty much play every day coz I'm a self confessed addict. But I will take that advice in board and I know it's right. However I want results this month, and I will make it happen. (oh shit now I really have to do it, guh!)

thats funny shit man! exactly why i'm not giving a time to when i'll get the run done. i fucking hate the beginning with a passion. even though i'm pretty good at it. how good at it? well i'll let Forensic answer that. even still that motherbrain room does the same bullshit to me also. im glad to hear that, a break is well deserved. its good to take a step back and recoup, reevaluate.

It's weird because every run from Smokey, Red Scarlet, and Hotarubi always does the old MB room perfectly. But I, too, always screw it up. I have no idea why.

Yea it seems if you can successully get to wrecked ship and then conquor wrecked ship nicely, you'll see the run through to the end. There's like a momentum, a comfort zone when you go to do the brinstar clean up after it. I don't know if you guys feel that ?. It might just be a SS thing. But it sets you up for the hardships ahead.

It is lucky that you all got see successful pre morph ball old mother brain room passes in most of my runs I tell you.

this is all to true. i would bet that room caused headaches for all that came b4 us......i would hope.

i feel the same way Behemoth, i always tell Forensic if i could just make it passed the WS the rest of the game pretty much falls into place (for the most part). i mean dont get me wrong i'm very capable of screwing something up later on, but yea the beginning is most pain in the ass for i think almost all of us.

[edit] how is that neat trick damage boost working for you (looked good in your TAS)? i did get the original idea from u so credit is where credits due.
and i see u gave up the Doubleboost Maridia Exit?

That damage neat trick works really well. Damn I keep forgetting to mention that thanks for bringing it up. You have to wait a little for them to be high enough but it is consistant when you get the feel for when to jump. I'm not so keen on the neat trick variation on the first trip stll though, damn PAL doors. Lack of plasma beam at that point is a real pain and to consistantly get through the door I have to use a super because it's fast and small (passing over the creature), which is a waste.

The double damage boost maridia exit just seems to not work for me on console. I honestly don't know why. That's the other trick I meant to mention that I took out of the TAS.

I think when you put it into perspective, at least for a SS. Having a few falls in the old mother brain room is so minor. But it feels bad because at that early stage of the run we feel we have to make a good impression on the watcher.

yes, i saw u execute it perfectly. and it does seem the PAL door may be a reason to take it out of the run as its not worth wasting a super missile really. unless a regular missile could open it early enough, but i doubt it.

the DoubleBoost is mostly just about getting to far left of the sandpit. then b4 the damage u should be pushing left alittle bit and then a quick right left for the boost, all while holding jump of course. its not a big deal if u took this out as even with an uncanny amount of practice i'm still subject to miss it so it's not a big deal really. brb gonna get a little snack lol.

A few falls in the old MB room is no big deal to fellow runners, but i know what u mean. i can see from an outside perspective it may look a bit sloppy. If i end up verifying ur next run and u fall once, twice, just know i won't penalize u for that lol.

Yea I do that fall into the sand pit as far left as possible. and even land on the right edge of the pillar and have little run up on before space jumping again. I could be wrong about it being harder or impssoble on console. I'll try it again as I do like the trick a lot.

Ahh sweet I'll just casually fall every jump like a noob, haha just kidding. Notice my 0:52 had my first fall before morph ball compared to my other runs. Or did I do it in my low% run as well ? can't remember.

I recal SnUfFiT86 saying that those sparks travel at different speed on PAL. faster I think which is what makes it hard. I don't know though. I havn't really tried the trick enough to be sure on this. But it will be something I'll test again.

I think it's to do with the damage invulnerability lasting too long on PAL making it hard. Like I say though on console there's something making this even harder. I think I have a different PAL rom version to be honest lol. Australian PAL or something.
