I like turtles.

1. Zero Mission - For sequence breaking goodness in its purest form - this game did a great job of distilling the series' gameplay and atmosphere.
2. Super - For all-round epicness and scope.
3. Prime - For reproducing the series fairly faithfully in 3D.
4. Return of Samus - For the Spider Ball, Plasma Beam, and Space Jump.
5. Fusion - For--despite introducing the disturbing linearity trend in Metroid titles--streamlining Super's control scheme so that it's actually conveniently playable with ten fingers.
6. Echoes - [This is the only one I really have nothing remarkable to say about.]
7. Corruption - For Hypermode. Worst mechanic ever.
8. Metroid - For having so many copy-and-paste rooms and always starting Samus with 30 energy. I wish I enjoyed it more, but I just can't like this game no matter how hard I try.

Just made one of these the other day, but I'll do it again since everyone else is making one here.

1: Super/Prime
2: Zero Mission/Fusion
3: Metroid/Return of Samus/Echoes/Corruption
4: Hunters

(Pinball doesn't count on this list to me. But I still enjoyed it a lot since it was able to incorporate a lot of Metroid elements into it.)

It's very hard for me to choose specific titles over others these days. Any of them other than Hunters has something that I really love about them, and overall my list ends up being which games have more things in them that make them stand out from the other Metroid titles. Plus the fact that it's also become nearly impossible for me to rank the 2D versus the 3D titles because of how different they can be from one another.

Never stressed

1.Prime - Owns
2.Zero Mission - Fuck the haters, intentional "breaks" own.
3.Fusion - Still a ton of fun despite Nintendo's best efforts.
3.Corruption - Stop trying to be like Fusion.
4.Return of Samus - Almost put it above Corruption, I don't know, I really like it.
5.Super - Fuck those controls, fuck the boring intro shit.
6.Metrode - Has its moments but it really has not aged well, as is the way of NES games
7.Echoez - God damn it.

1 - Super (best wall-jump controls in the series)
2 - prime (diferent visors, beams had diferent roles)
3 - corruption (rundas, PED suit, lack of water area)
4 - zero mission (a playable original metroid)
5 - Metroid 2 (metroid hunt FTW, a pity is kind of unplayable at this age...)
6 - fusion (SA-X)
7 - prime 2 (don't have pros)
8 - Hunters (new hunters, better FPS control on the DS)
9 - Metroid (where i am? oh i think i know... WHERE I AM!?)

That seems like a decent list. Though I'm wondering why RoS is #2.

It is a quintessential Metroid game, but god damn what I'd give for a map screen in that game.

It's kinda odd looking at everyone's list and realizing how different all of our opinions are for the most part. (More than I had realized based on previous conversations) Looks like Prime is the overall winner though as far as most popular goes, seeing as it's the only Metroid game that's in the top 3 for nearly everyone.
