Interestingly though there's a chance that just beating my run on NTSC segmented with a time of say... 0:047 might not be accepted, as an equivalent time to my run would be around a mid 0:45 - 0:46. But Forensic is capable of doing that anyway so no worries there.

Behemoth, If you achieve your any% 0:31 of even if you submit your any% 0:32 then, Hotarabi's any% becomes obsolete as well. Woah! BOOOOOOM! "head explodes". aiwebs_011

BTW Behemoth in your Any% you can take out the Ceiling Glitch and Murder Beam to submit it to Twin Galaxies. The only problem is you have to go through the intro. Just go to there web page and see how to submit for them. You will get I nice big Guinness Book of World Records plaque to boot.

Providing it is of the same standard, yes. If (I know it wouldn't) the NTSC run was submitted, and only achieved 0:50, it most likely wouldn't be accepted, because even though it beats the current best accepted NTSC time (Scarlet's 0:55), it is not a run of the current best quality / speed. For an NTSC run to be accepted, it'd at least have to match Behemoth's 0:48.

SDA often has very high standards and expectations, so even if a run were submitted for a new game, it'd still have to achieve that standard, even though it would HAVE to be the best submitted time, because it was the first. This is often why the verification process takes an age, as they rely on knowledgeable players, who understand current expectations, to verify the runs.

Interesting point. If they use logic, mainly if Behemoth get a 31min run SS, they'll obsolete Hotarubi's run, cause a slower version beats the faster version in the same conditions (SS). Also, we know that for any% the differences are around at least 2 min, so Behemoth's 31min would be like 29min for NTSC, beating Hotarubi's 32 for 3min (or two mins and some seconds).

I didn't read everything but I'm not gonna lie. I've always wanted to beat Scarlet's time but I had lost my motivation for playing the game after I beat it about 20 times in 2 days and getting my best time of 1:12. Then I gave up. Unfortunately, I still have no way of actually recording my game times and I am still nowhere near where they are. Once I get money again, a recorder and my computer/new computer running again, I'll gladly crush the record. NTSC style. No offence to Behemoth nor Scarlet. This just excites me. I think I'll hook it up tonight and just use whatever run I have recorded as reference as I can't get a hold of another one. I'd like Hotarubi's run or even Behemoths now. Meh in due time...

Unfortunately I can only atm just go by memory. The only videos I had were of Scarlet's run but I deleted them it seems. So it's either go by memory or wait. I'd rather do it now but I don't see myself getting near a good enough time without constantly testing. I would also ask for a detailed description of Behemoths route but I think that would be a bit much to ask. I am on a library computer so I can't go to gaming sites for whatever reason, I have 90 minutes total and I doubt I can download any files. Once I get a job, hopefully this won't be an issue if I can help it. Just FYI, I won't be ripping anyones route and calling it my own.

Not to mention that I don't have a recording device anyway. Not sure if I want to buy one just yet as I only want to record this game atm. SDA accepts DVDs now right?

Wat up GuardianGarr. Honestly there's only exists two routes that are most optimal. For the absolute best times it suggested you use one of those two routes. Quite honestly this games been around so long that all alternate routes and suggestions have been sub-optimal. As far as both the aforementioned are concerned, Forensics and myself agreed to have a detailed explanation written for you by sometime tomorrow. Also I'm not sure, but do you have access to an emulator so that maybe you can watch .smv movie files? If so that can help you a great deal. Anyhow just wait a bit, we'll write out the route and be more than glad to discuss it with you.

edit: If you have access to an emulator, Forensics and myself will make room by room smv's and explain in detail why and what's the fastest most consistent ways to accomplish each room. We'll also give alternate room strats depending on your skill level if need be. Also if you'd like we'll give you a full detailed explanation on what techniques are being used and how to execute them as well.

Thanks a lot for trying to do that for me. I am going to ask the library if I can download files so I can at least get a notepad file from you guys as I only would have a flash drive, my phone, or a pencil to get the information. My HDD isn't working properly so I am using Lubuntu, so I can only watch videos. I also don't believe that only 2 routes are viable. I've watched a lot of videos and once I get the chance to, regardless of if I beat the record with your guys' descriptions, I am going to piece together all the best routes. As far as I can tell, even Hotarubi doesn't do all the best things he could. I don't know about Behemoth, but it's likely the same from what I read. I can do most anything you can do in this game. I was getting good enough to do TAS stuff without using a TAS. Such as 3 rounding phantoon with missles or whatever, that Saturn did. Anything you can share would be great and I really appreciate the help. Hopefully I can make sure it doesn't go in vein.

Hotarubi's route and run are also sub-par and sub-optimal. The NTSC record (while never exact) is likely to be around 0:42-0:43 with current standards of play.

I know it'd be a lot of reading, but it might be worth you reading through the last 20-30 pages of both the NTSC and PAL threads, as there's been so much stuff discovered (relatively) recently.

My name is 4N6/Forensics.

The fastest route for console is Hotarubi's/Behemoth's and TASers even said so themselves. Its been tried, tested and proven as the perfect console route. There is no need for testing any route changes at all. There is also the easier route which is about 5 seconds slower which is to not go Power Bombs early and revisit Kraid before you head back to Norfair after Maridia. So pick one of the two and we will make .smv's of each room to your liking. Anyway you can 2 round Phantoon with the Power Wave Combo so 3 rounding is not an option. I've also 2 Rounded Phantoon with Missiles before but, its not faster especially with the new strategy I developed to kill Phantoon. Also 2 rounding him with missiles is not easy so you need not bother yourself with it unless your doing low%. I'm sure they will allow you to Download it to your USB Device but, you can never be sure so just ask anyway.

I've recently looked at 1,168 "viable" routes (probably more), where the slowest route is 3 ingame minutes behind the fastest. Of these 1,168 routes, Behemoth's is the 121st fastest route. There are faster routes out there, and there may be even faster ones than the routes I tested. Needless to say the route that I uploaded a while ago was much worse than Behemoth's.

As for the NTSC record, the amount of skill to beat :50 is high. Behemoth is probably the only one with enough skill to do it right now (that I've seen, there are other people that claim they can but don't upload any videos of their play.) SUPERMETROIDFTP's 48 is clearly a fake (and the route is worse than Behemoth's.) Other than that, though, dbx and I are the closest, we both have single segment 55s on our Youtubes. I guess F-Bomb would be the next best with his single segment 57. The point is, it's really hard. So we probably won't be seeing an improvement for a while unless someone gets better (and I'm working on it,) or someone comes out of hiding.

I totally agree with Dessy. A lot of my runs that I thought were heading for sub 55 can easily turn into a 57+ with a couple of bad boss fights.
You can practice all the Phantoon and Draygon quick kills you want, but on single segment if they decide to give slow patterns you can kiss your potential pb goodbye.

Also I'm only speaking for my self, but a lot of the really advanced techniques. (Pre Draygon full room shinespark, blue suit through blocks, Ice Beam tricks and Super Metroid Skip) all cause big delays if they fail. and all require very precise timing, thus they are very dangerous to use in a Single Segment run no matter how much practice you do.

Lately I have practised the shit out of the the first two of the above listed tricks and my success rate would be well below 10%, which really makes them a poor choice when doing single segment.

Hmm.. I personally am not sure if it's fake or legit that one. I remember watching it first time and not being convinced it was legit. Then I watched it a few times afterward and thinking it possibly could be real. This is after he had told me it was legit on you-tube after I asked him, so maybe I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt. But either way I don't think I could know for sure unless I watched him do that run

Also, not to sound big headed here at all but if GardianGarr wants to "beat" my run he'd have to get a mid 45 or lower, not just beat 48. You have to remember the PAL disadvantage. But either way my advice firstly would be to try and get into the high 40's on NTSC and that would be one huge achievement/hurdle out the way, then see where you can take it from there. Thanks. Also to previous comments, I know Hotarubi's route isn't the best. You guys might think there isn't any required testing at this point but I believe there is. If I could have internet access, I could easily come up with a very good route. Not saying it would be the best, but I feel if there is anyone who can do so it's me. Also, I am not trying to hijack the thread so I am going to make a new thread on this later with recent updates if possible. I also can't use a flashdrive here and specified earlier that I can't run any programs except videos. Also, thanks Behemoth, I won't need it lmao. Cocky much? All I need is the motivation, I am proficient enough at the game to be able to do so.
