I found a very minor difference in the frigate at the beginning. In the US version, when you go down the diagonal cargo lift elevator, when you exit it the hologram reappears, and if you walk backwards into it you'll end up going back up again. I did that so many times while backing up from the space pirate that jumps down. However, in the PAL version, the hologram doesn't reappear. If you back up into the elevator, it won't go back up, so once you get to that point in that version, you can't go back.  I haven't played the NTSC Player's Choice, so I can't confirm whether that change is present in that version.

1) in the research lab in Phendrana, when the lights go out, it is absolutely pitch black...you can't see a thing without the thermal visor.  In the US version you could see at least a little
2) in the underwater reactor core, without the gravity suit (haven't been there with the gravity suit yet), you see a lot of floating black circular splotches.  I'm not sure what they are, they disappear if you get close, it's just some kind of background effect

I don't have PAL, so I don't know anything like that!

You Americans could actually see in the dark in the Phendrana labs? Hah, you had it way too easy.

Muahahahaha!  We are equipped with night vision goggles!  Fools! lol  wait, did you have the brightness degraded?  I had my TV set and my GC set to full brightness.

I had night vision goggles too. I call them the "thermal visor".

Samus should have Night Vision... I guess the Chozo never thought of her being in such dark places.

Well, there's a lot of things she could use that are only power-ups and not built in. Without any powerups, she could probably be outclassed by a trained Federation Soilder. It's only when she has obscene amounts of missles, e-tanks, and some nice nice beam upgrades that she's really the strongest fighter in the galaxy.

I love all the changes so far, I'm really glad I took the time and effort to get the PAL version.  It's obvious that they spent a lot of time improving it...the US got so screwed with this game, our native version is basically a beta.  The funny thing was, it took me longer to find a Freeloader than it did for me to find the PAL version of the game.  I'm about to do the phazon mines run now, I haven't noticed any changes in this part yet.

Heh, someone isn't a sequence breaker.

I've tried sequence breaking before, it just doesn't appeal to me.  I like taking my time when I play a game.  I managed to sequence break the space jump boots pretty easily (in the original US version anyway), but I just didn't find the game any fun that way.  It's fun to watch a video of someone sequence breaking (like the 100% 1:00 Super Metroid run), but I don't like playing that way.

do you think they would have let it sit and fester while they were waiting for the localizations to be complete? i'm sure if there were a third region, that version would have made the pal version look like a beta.

not to me. i gave up and bought an action replay for $30 more.

Is someone forgetting about the new independent state of Pikachania? It's our first step to world domination, Nate! We went over this a thousand times... gah...

It looks like you haven't seen how they've butchered the Chozo Lores in the PAL version yet. I assume they had their reasons for changing them, but I sure as heck don't know why. Granted, most of the changes for PAL are obvious improvements and do make the game a better experience for most players (as in those who aren't concerned with massive sequence breaking), but I'm a little sore about the seemingly pointless changes to the lores. All the interesting stuff in them has been cut out.

Actually, I did see that.  They really aren't all that different.  The main difference I see is that they made it seem like that particular group of Chozo didn't know Samus (they weren't the ones that raised her), which makes more sense to me.  The US version made it seem like they didn't even colonize Tallon IV until they left Zebes...the times just didn't fit, there wasn't enough time.  The PAL version makes it seem like it's a totally different group that had been there for a long time.
