They need not make a Metroid 2 remake anything like MZM. They could make it this grand game with an epic intro sequence explaining her mission, Much more lush design, 3D sprites and backgrounds. And have it in a super/fusion begining style where it's very quiet and your aprehensive exploring the eery coridors until your first metroid battle. Maybe chuck in a cutscene before the battle actually takes place. A small cinematic or something.
Metroid 2 was actually a very balanced game. Not too easy, not too hardcore. If they make it harder they only need turn it up one notch or two. But the metroid fights need to be more dynamic of course but still fun to fight like they were in the original.
The environment needs a huge overhaul. But still reminiscent of the original. Remember that place with the many vertical shafts ?. Although that place is kind of unoriginal on paper, it god damn worked. very spooky place. They still need to make it feel like your on SR388. Not Zebes or any other planet.
They could quite litterally reach for the stars with a remake of this game now. MZM actually feels a little too conservative now. Even with the Chozodia sections...
