NBMB Speedrun

Well, out of boredom and nothing else to do, I’ve decided to do an NBMB speedrun. My main reason for making this topic was to get some opinions on what the best route would be. As of now my current path looks like this:

Ceres -> Morph ball and first missile -> Morph ball bombs -> Super missiles and adjacent items -> Charge -> power bombs -> gauntlet-> power bomb that first area in green brinstar (don’t know what to call that)-> spazer-> missile by kraid-> high jump and adjacent items-> speedbooster-> wave-> ice-> items from pink brinstar room-> crateria items by morph ball-> Power bomb by landing site-> wrecked ship-> maridia-> lava missile in upper Norfair-> lower Norfair-> x-ray.

I did a rough draft of this run and was able to get 1:19. It would have been faster but I forgot some items and had to back track to get them. My ultimate goal for this run is about 1:05. I’m doing this on console and will have my first run recorded sometime in the next week or two.

It may be faster to do a

Super missiles and adjacent items -> Charge -> power bombs -> spazer-> missile by kraid-> high jump and adjacent items-> speedbooster-> wave-> ice-> gauntlet-> power bomb that first area in green brinstar -> items from pink brinstar room-> crateria items by morph ball-> Power bomb by landing site-> wrecked ship-> maridia-> lava missile in upper Norfair-> lower Norfair-> x-ray.

That way you have less backtracking. The first norfair hellrun isn't that bad with three tanks and a reserve, which you can have if you grab the E-tank by the morphball right after activating the space pirates in the old MB room, getting the very hard-to-miss E-tank on the way to Brinstar, getting the reserve by the first SM, and then getting the E-tank by the highjump boots. It's more risky, but it may save some running around.

EDIT: in fact, you could probably put off getting the first powerbombs until your trip back from getting the speedbooster and icebeam, unless i'm forgetting something.

Um...do you mean a 74% collection speedrun or are you just getting everything needed for a crazy 8% run or something? Or are you actually going to x-ray climb to skip all the bosses? O_o

NBMB is just collecting as many items as possible without killing any bosses or mini bosses, the only exception is the bomb torizo though.

I tried out your path (up to maridia) and it's a lot faster (almost 5 minutes). I've gotten into the habit of skipping charge until I clean up that room. I also didn't get pb's until after ice. I'm thinking of trying maridia right after I get Ice to see if that's faster. Thanks for the idea.

Has anybody actualy got the PB66 (or whichever number it is) in a resonable amount of time in a run? That would be the true NBMB run.

I believe it's just about consistency, as you need to do about 20 stoopid underwater wall-jumps in a row, and then react within a few frames to do a normal wall-jump above the waterline. aiwebs_027

Next question: Has there been a TAS of a NBMB run yet? I can't remember for the life of me. Eh?

pb 66 isn't that hard for me (vid below). I always save before it though, just in case I start to take to long. My only "problem" with this run now is where to save. I don't want to save too much cause it'll be boring/annoying to watch. I would love to see a NBMB TAS but I would want it to get all the items you have to glitch to get. That would be 81%, possibly 86%.

Well I finished the run and am currently uploading it. Unfortunately my capture device only records at 30 fps so when I get hit I sort of vanish of screen for a bit. here's a link to my youtube page.

Actually you can fight Mother Brain in a NBMB which is the goal evenually. Theres a 13% run displaying the least amount of items and fastest route on youtube... 6 parts.
