One day, I got bored and decided to go through a saved game and kill MB again, just for fun. Everything was fine, until it became time to take the Laser Brain Attack (the unavoidable one, you know), and as it's damaging me, I thought 'hmmm, why not take off the Gravity Suit and the Varia Suit?'. So I did. Then MB began to just damage me down to 129 energy, without using the LBA, leaving me very confused. Right before I die, I figure it was because I took the suits off, so I put them back on. I'm close to MB right now, btw. Instantly, MB charges up to attack, I warp to the edge of the room and Samus gets crippled, and the Metroid comes to save the day. Then, once my health gets full, the Metroid just leaves, so instead of the Metroid being killed and landing on Samus, it lands in between Samus and MB. Samus got the Hyper Beam, the owning of MB commenced, and everything else went peachy.

Has this ever happened before, or did I finally find something I can call my own (I am unable to record videos, so I can't show you the glitch)?

The first 3/4 make sense, and I've done it fairly often. It's the last few lines that totally throw me off...

First off, what you did is a glitch that allows Samus to get up when she's supposed to be crippled. Mother Brain will still try to damage Samus more though, down to a certain value, before she charges up for the last attack.
A quick question. Did you *slide* to the edge of the room, or *warp*? I've seen Samus slide, but never warp there (well, not while Samus was in the room to begin with... er... just forget these parenthesis).
The game resets Samus to the crippled position numerous times during the Metroid cutscene. If you've done the first glitch (stand up when you're not supposed to) there are ways to stay up or get back up. X-ray is the easiest, or you can just wall jump during the cutscene, or stay in a ball and lay bombs whenever Samus goes into the crippled position (yes, the game will allow you to lay bombs while kneeling).

The last bit... I have no idea. As far as I know, there's no way to kill Mother Brain without the Metroid dieing; the Metroid's death scene triggers the start for the last fight, which is the only time Mother Brain will actually die. Can you give more details about what happened?

I'll try to.

1. The First Laser Brain Attack:

-It went off as normal.
-Halfway through the attack, I pause the game, and take off both the Gravity and Varia Suits, and unpause the game.
-The attack ends, Samus falls to the ground, but never falls over, like when she's crippled, but manages to get to her feet as she tends to do until her health gets too low to survive another blast. She merely treats the LBA as a regular attack.

2. Every other attack:

-What I think happened was that due to my taking off the suits, the game thinks the Laser Brain attack never happened, from this point on, until I have about 130 health left, Mother Brain fires every attack at me, except for the one where she shoots the 'beam' of red explosions at Samus (it's usually right before the LBA, in bursts of 3).

-When I get to 130 or so, I realize that the suits had something to do with the attack. I put them back on.

-The second I unpause, MB charges up the LBA. Samus warps, not slides, to the end of the room, and without showing any animation, kneels.

3. The Metroid cometh:

-As usual, right before MB fires, the baby Metroid (which I like to call Super Metroid, for obvious reasons) swoops in and attacks MB. It seems to take longer to suck the life out of MB.

-The Super Metroid lands and heals me. Mother Brain starts shooting. The Super Metroid doesn't seem to take any damage, until the end, when it turns slightly green and purple (think Fusion Varia green, and Gravity Suit purple).

-Mother Brain kills the Metroid. However, the Metroid is several feet to the left of Samus on-screen, right inbetween MB and Samus. As it dies, Samus glows and gets the Hyper Beam, as usual. The owning of MB commences.

From the activation of the Hyper Beam on, the game acts like normal.

Oh, so the Metroid did die. I thought you meant in your first post it just landed between you and MB and did nothing.
How did you pause in the middle of the LBA? The game disables the pause button during it, at least on the NTSC version. The only way I know of to pause during it is to press pause just before MB attacks, so the screen is darkening when she starts and pauses shortly in.

The second part is the stand-up glitch, pretty well known already. Although, I've never seen it cause Samus to warp, and the first time it sets Samus to kneeling is when the Metroid attacks Mother Brain, not while Mother Brain is charging up.

For the third part, I don't know why the colors are acting funny, but if you aren't in the default position when the Metroid leaves you to attack Mother Brain, it can be in strange spots when MB kills it. Since the entire scene is scripted, it shouldn't be a surprise that it doesn't matter where the Metroid dies, Samus will still get the Hyper Beam.

I tried to recreate the glitch, when something stranger happened.

-The first LBA, I switch suits (this time, I could only do it pre-LBA, unlike last time), nothing happens. In fact, until the third LBA, it doesn't work. Then I can switch mid-LBA.

-I can move around and everything. Then, unexpectedly, a fourth blast comes. The Metroid comes too. Except I can move normally, and shoot and do whatever. Halfway through MB's drainage, the Metroid's squeals switch from high, to low. For about three seconds. Then, right at the end, with Samus in the middle of the room, I get insta-crippled, and fall to the ground (no warping, I stay there). The Metroid heals me, but when it flees, dies where it normally does. I still get Hyper Beam, and kill MB normally.

I'm guessing this is all just random.

Except for the Metroid's lower pitch noise, that's all been done before.
You get crippled periodically during the cutscene, I mentioned that in my first post on this thread. If you have the x-ray, you can use that to break out easily (assuming you managed to stand up after the LBA)

I'm interested in the mid-LBA pausing, though, and how you took *4* shots and still stood. How much energy did you start with, did you use reserves, when did you have which suits equipped, how much health did you have at each point?
I guess I should go and fool around with it too.. I just assumed, after seeing that I couldn't pause during it, that it was always the same.

I could have said that part better. I meant that the Metroid comes and saves Samus as usual right before it fires. Sorry about that.

How I paused during it with my first glitch I don't know. On the second one though, I just spammed the pause button since it didn't work the first two times.

As for the suits, everytime I paused the game, I took both Gravity and Varia off, and put them back on if the glitch didn't work. It should also be noted that during the second glitch, while I'm still running around with MB being drained, I put both suits back on.

I've never been able to pause during a LBA...  however, i've withstood 4 LBAs...  don't remember how I did, though, other than the obvious CF.  :/

I tried this and some wierdness happened.

-Got MB to LBA me, tried to pause during it and couldn't.
-Second LBA, paused going into it, then disabled the suits.
-After, I was low enough to be crippled, but could move around.
-The metroid nailed her, and I was auto-crippled. I was very close to MB, and as she staggered back and forth she hit me and my Reserve Tanks saved me.
-This near-death got me up and moving again. I shot MB for fun while the Metroid did its work. Its squees changes tone several times.
-After it left MB it tried to grab me to restore my energy. I had to X-Ray to get un-cripples again. I ran around avoiding it and it chased me. I could pass through it without it latching on. It was Mochtroid-like in its inability to latch on.
-MB shot it as itchased after me, and she hit me as well. I let the Metroid grab me and I could still jumpand shoot as usual.
-The Metroid was injured at this point, and it should have died before it finished healing me. When it would have died, MB kept firing but no shots actually came out of her mouth.
-Also, as the Metroid was being hit while refilling me, it was darkened, but it flashed back to its original colors briefly.
-When I was full it got off and died, didn't land on me and I was glowing as usual. It took a little longer that normal to get me the Hyper Beam, and then it continued as it normally would.
-I never re-activated the suits.

EDIT: Here's a ZSNES movie of a similar episode.

This time I put the suits back on so MB wouldn't kill me when I was dodging the Metroid, also it didn't latch on to me until it was already "dead". I run into MB at this point just to see if the Metroid will fill up more than 14 tanks.

Oh....my.....GOD! A valid bump!! *faints*

That is very interesting though. How were you close enough for her to hit you when staggering? She always gets me right up against the wall and out of reach.

Normal bit of stand-up-after-beam foolery.
Once you get up and Mother Brain starts charging her cutscene laser, you can still move aroudn freely. But the moment the Metroid comes, Samus is forced into a crouching position again (which is quickly broken if you were previously in the air).

Anyone ever see zm8 in the 15% run I uploaded to tripod?

I thought it'd be fun to put it in there just to surprise people when they were expecting a zmv of fighting Mother Brain. :P

If Samus is turning around when she's forced into kneeling, she *slides* along the ground while kneeling. Unlike normally, though, there's nothing you can do to get her to stand up.
Although, I doubt it's possible to do what I did in the movie - I used a code for infinite health. Samus takes too much damage from sliding into Mother Brain over and over to survive long enough for the Metroid to latch on and keep her alive.
